One of the most impressive and satisfying thing for Thai people to watch is foreigners eating Thai foods. Absolutely, you made us so happy and proud of.
Get some Penang Curry and Massaman - And see if you can find Gai Yang - Thai bbq chicken essentially - cooked with bamboo sticks and usually at a lot of street food stalls!
Being from Maryland and staying near the ocean for most of my life, steamed blue crab IS FIRE. I LOVE CRAB. Thai food is awesome, delicious. I live near a Thai restaurant and my family and I eat there frequently.
You have to try Papaya Salad(Somtum) again but with a grilled chicken and sticky rice. It is one of the most popular dish(as popular as padkrapao) among thai locals.
He ordered it from a tourist trap restaurant, you can definitely get all that for sub $7 from many local spots in BKK. Although definitely easier if you have a local Thai friend to show you the way.
As a non-Thai, Thai food is one of my favs so for 1) I can’t believe you’ve been sleeping on Thai food! and 2) I was over joyous seeing you experiencing and absolutely enjoying these new flavours.. nice one man. 🤙🏼
Thai food is the best in the world. Btw most Thai curries are soupy and Thai, people mostly eat with a fork and spoon, much easier 😂 and don't forget to squeeze the limes into the dish, adds a whole other level
The whole time he ate the pad thai I was thinking SQUEEZE THAT LIME! Even though personally I much prefer drunken noodles the lime is essential to pad thai
@@JohnHausser the ones I had in Bangkok were, and the ones from my local Thai restaurant (run by a Thai family) are but you can ask for less spice usually.
@@JYLee-rr1sy When ordering papaya salad, you have to specify, with or without "Pla ra" (it's fermented fish sauce, a lot funkier than regular fish sauce). The version without Pla ra, they will use regular fish sauce instead, which is what I prefer. :)
Rice mango even with banana is a poor man's food back in the day. It's become a stample and a taste of home. A phenomenal feast! So satisfying to watch.
Remember being at a Thai restaurant here in the UK. A first date was in progress at the table adjacent. The lady said she wasn't very keen on heat or spice and her companion told her he thought the Papaya salad would be a safe option, which was duly ordered... Bet they never had a second date!
For the papaya salad, I recommend putting them in the fridge for a while then serve them cold later. The papaya will become even crunchier and more refreshing.
Thai food outside of Thailand is usually not the same. Like if you are in the UK and order Indian food, you can get stuff that's very similar to what you get in India, Thai food abroad is often nothing like the same dish in Thailand.
The thai food here in san diego california is amazing and pretty authentic if you know the right places. My moms best friend is thai and she's a chef so I grew up eating home cooked thai food which is obviously the best but I know a few real good places too
I think it's because many of Thailand's neighboring countries often run Thai restaurants instead of running their own nation's cuisine due to the well-known and popular Thai food but lack of authentic know-how and recipes to cook. So, kindly double check whether the restaurant owner is Thai or the head chef is Thai; otherwise, you will get Asian fusion food or Thai-inspired food instead.
I know. Those are the best foods you chose (and add in Massaman Red Curry.) The papaya is underripe so crunchy in that salad. I loved visiting Bangkok. What an amazing country.
Hey Ben, I’m so happy you are enjoying Thailand and our food! I really hope you spend enough time here to see all the wonderful places we have! Cheers! Thank you for visiting!❤
While you're in Thailand, make sure to try MIANG KHAM. Not just the standard version wrapped in a leaf, but the special version that you can get wrapped in a flower petal. Get ring lady on it.
Thank you for loving Thai food. Moreover your team did great finding the right restaurant with unimpressive dishes. there are still hundred dished that you may love
My moms best friend is a thai chef so I grew up eating it, its BOMB. Definitely can attribute my spice tolerance to eating it. If you want it a little less spicy and more of a meal eat it with cold/room temp rice noodles!
Thailand is a foodie heaven my only complaint is globalization. I love Southeast Asian countries because of that feel of being somewhere foreign. Thailand is too westernized for my tastes, I tried my best to only eat at Thai restaurants to keep with my tradition of eating only local food like I did in Vietnam Cambodia and Laos, but I still found myself eating every other day at a KFC or McDonalds, I cant help it its in front of me and easy. But with that said Thai food especially seafood is cheap, if you used to going to seafood spots in the states and spending 20 to 30 on a seafood plate, in Thailand you can get some grilled shrimp fish rice and a few beers for less than 10 dollars. Freaking amazing.
Oops, you’re supposed to squeeze the lime on the pad Thai, will change the whole flavor. If you had more sauce for the dessert it will soften the sticky rice :)
Ben my favorite thing to eat in the world is Prawn Pad Thai!! And the yellow curry and the Pineapple specialty rice. But I'm a whimp with heat. Som Tam(Papaya Salad) in the middle is my favourite of these. Which is surprising because i dont usually do salad. Shame you didn't have Khao Soi which is the best Thai dish in my opinion.
papaya salad / tom yum has to be one of my favorite thai dishes, but can only handle so much, my local thai place does not hold back at all on spice. such unique flavors/textures compared to the local stuff in New England

So true, when he said 37 dollars i waa like wtffff. Easily around 100 here in the U.S.

Thai food is super good, a lot herbs, a lot of flavors.
The first dish is the most underrated dish. The flavor from pork and suace is just perfect. The best thing about that dish is fried-garlic!!
