  • the vintage USMC fighting/utility knife, seen on the old ww 2 films but what's it like and how does it perform. well i found out and for an old knife designed in 1942 it came out with a good performance, very surprised and like all military it should last a very long time.

Thank you for the fair review. I have one from the 70's that I purchased at a PX. I paired it with a Victorinox swiss army camper.

Thank you very much for your video. Regarding 5:29, the term "Blood Groove" is a misnomer and is not for exsanguination. Instead its real name is called the "Fuller". The Fuller on a blade improves its strength & rigidity by increasing its surface area through a cross section while reducing its weight. For example, a steel I Beam has improved strength & rigidity over that of a flat solid bar. Similarly corrugated sheet steel is stronger & more rigid than flat sheet steel. Regarding 5:58, the unsharpened section of the knife blade is called the “Ricasso”. Regarding 7:44, the knob on the end of a knife hilt is called the “Pommel”. Regarding 8:08, Olean, New York is the location of the KA-BAR knife company. Regarding 8:52, the tang on the KA-BAR is a type known as a “Rat Tail Tang”. Although a Rat Tail Tang extends through the Hilt of the knife to the Pommel, the tang's width is considerably reduced inside the Grip of the knife. The knife is weakest at the junction behind the Crossguard where the Blade connects to the thin Rat Tail Tang and may break there under severe stress from overly vigorous batoning.

It's just not beefy enough to chop and with a rats tail tang it's just not designed for that I think.

@jochenwandiger9123 I used to speak a little German, but not enough to speak fluently. My school had French lessons, but my class never done them. we were considered to be, not intelligent enough to have the lessons.

@jochenwandiger9123 Yes, it's a very likeable knife, and it performs well in the wilderness.
