      I'm maybe going to get blasted for this, but Eugene as an idea isn't necessarily problematic.
      The issue media has always has with this concept is that you can't have people who legitimately have those conditions portray them themselves. So what do you do?
      If you treat it with respect, and don't belittle them as humans for something they didn't choose, it can be amazingly compassionate. A wrestler prodigy who's mentally slow or whatever and is just so doing childlike callbacks to classic moves and moments? And wins? That's an AMAZING idea.
      But WWE couldn't help but turn into "haha funny retard" and it loses any sympathy from me. It could have been an incredible story that meant a lot to a lot of people that deserve that inclusion, but Vince McMahon gonna Vince, pal.

    Hot Take: 2011 is the most underrated year in WWE. It had The Rock’s return, R Truth had a great heel turn, Summer of Punk, Rise of Daniel Bryan, Orton and Christian’s rivalry, Mark Henry’s Hall of Pain, Cody Rhodes brought back the classic IC Title, Christian Mark Henry and Daniel Bryan won their first world titles, Zack Ryder was showing anyone could get over on their own, and the in ring work started to drastically improving. It was the year it started to develop into the WWE we know today.

    • @Sawyeee

      WWE in 2011 definitely had its moments, but there were also some pretty bad storylines in 2011 with the never ending Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler feud, one of the worst Wrestlemanias ever, the anonymous raw GM, and most of the summer of punk

      Sadly that's not really a hot take. It's just simple facts. Even his push in the early 2000s shows it. He had the potential to be one of THE guys multiple times and his own flaws and mistakes cost him time and time again.
      Jeff will always and forever be my favorite wrestler, but I cannot deny that he is his own worst enemy and to watch him grasp so much just to stumble breaks my heart.

    I remember as a kid Eugene being over as hell! He always got massive (and positive) reactions. Perhaps I’m misremembering but it felt a lot of people were laughing with the character and rooting for him, rather than laughing at him and cheering ironically. Eugene’s character was definitely in poor taste but some of that is our own failure to divorce our contemporary sensibilities with the time period of when Eugene’s character was prominent.

    • @vortex_1336
      @vortex_1336 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    • @sweetpepino1907

      I look back on Eugene incredibly fondly. I'm sure WWE did not handle him sensitively because their track record is abysmal, but I remember him being fun and incredibly easy to cheer for. Plus his music was an absolute banger so as a kid that made me fucking love him right off the bat. Played as him all the time in the games he was in.

    • @theblindcaboose
      @theblindcaboose ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's less the character is in poor taste. I remember seeing that the wrestler, Dinsmore, had a coach whose kid was autistic; and so from his perspective he was truly trying to give kids like him someone to look up to, to give representation to, and Dinsmore took it very seriously. The issue is Vince/writers, they used it as a gag, they put it in poor taste; he becomes Bischoffs nephew as a way to make fun of Eric.

  • @laviathon10
    @laviathon10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Hot Take: Solo Sikoa's inspiration and tributes to Umaga hurt his character more than help it most of the time. I want to see him do his own unique things and contribute to the Bloodline more than just look menacingly at something in the background. He simply doesn’t have the size, the look or explosiveness in the ring (in my opinion) to make what he's portraying in the ring feel believable. I do enjoy his BWAHs though. They always get me chuckling.

      @@billybeeeeeeeeee I agree with you, he's shorter than his brothers and lacks a physique I would find menacing, he's got the character down pat, but the look doesn't do it for me, what makes him stand out is when someone pushes him into light comedy territory, like when sami breaks him with laughter or he argues with a little kid about being called a chicken, that stuff is great and I find him compelling, but just him being a brute doesn't do it for me.

      He proposed that, but I don't believe it was ever agreed to. I know Jim Cornette told Vince "why don't you let him piss In your mouth while he does that" in regards to that idea. Would result in your entire company being buried imo. The talk was that he'd drop it to someone else later that month, but Shawn was the problem.
      WWE was never concerned that Bret would show up with the title on WCW, they'd already won a lawsuit after the Medusa thing, and Bret would never have done that. But nothing was stopping Bischoff from coming on TV that Monday live and saying that he had signed the current WWF champion and that he'd be here in however many weeks. Because as soon as midnight hit, he could say and do that with no recourse from WWF.

    • @MikeWilsonBarrett

      I don't care what anyone says. Bret would have never shown up in WCW with a WWF belt. He also would have done the company thing and dropped the belt to whoever. He just did not want to drop it in Canada which I could understand. This pissed McMahon off so he devised away to forcefully take title off him. It was henious what he did and I have never liked Vince since that day. They can say what they want but on that Day Vince screwed Bret. If I was Bret I would have never been able to forgive him for that moment as they ultimately tanished his career.
      Vince is a slimeball and has done more harm to WWE in the past 2 decades than good. Really hope this Endenvour deal ends up elbowing him out completely.

    I dont actually hate the Eugene character and honestly he was super over. You go back and watch he was super over the crowd loved him. Nick Dinsmore said the Eugene character was his idea mainly cause he was sick of not being called up to the main roster so he met up with Vince and pitched the character and he approved it. I think the problem with Eugene other than the obvious is that he was a little bit overexposed on the show like on average he had 2 segments most weeks and it could fluctuate from 2-4 a week and perhaps that was the crowd turning on him plus his injury in 2005 didnt help.

      It shows that WWE isn't a wrestling company and hasn't been for at least the past 15 years.

      @@ripman21 as much as I still do like WWE, I gotta agree with you. WWE isn't for the wrestling fans. It's for sponsors. Last PPV it felt like they were whoring themselves out with how much they kept promoting Bud Light. Then they'll say they're making the show for kids, so like who was the bud light ad for? Because they definitely pushed Bud Light more than LA Knight and that's who we all wanna see.

    Arn Anderson is a way better worker than flair, flair had the same match over and over but his promos were so entertaining everyone over looked how same same his in ring work was. Arn was so good in the ring and his heel work was amazing. And to this day man, no spine buster comes close.

    I guess my hot take is that I already fell out of love with CM Punk when he came back to work for the WWE for that talk show thing. Not only did he go back to work for the very people that ruined his life just to make some money, his whole AEW run has really made him come across as a massive hypocrite by showing up and immediately getting a main event and championship run before guys that had been there longer than him. Kinda like what he complained about all the way back in 2011

    Hot take(?): ref bumps that result in heels cheating to win should be banned from now on. It's a lazy and boring plot device that all wrestling promotions use too much. It's the one thing in pro wrestling I can't suspend my disbelief over, since thousands of people and dozens of cameras witness the cheating.

    1. The Nexus absolutely deserved to lose at Summerslam. There wasn't enough talent to keep the Nexus strong. Barrett at best was only ever gonna be a mid-carder.
    2. X-Pac or Chyna should've won KOTR '99.
    3. Edge's Rumble return may be ICONIC (the expressions on his face as he soaks in the crowd then he bosses up and goes into his entrance pose/pyro was IMMACULATE) but his matches since don't offer much, plus they wasted a rumble win on him, too. He should've have the rumble return then immediately went to managing someone/some team. Or even just be an agent and help this generation develop promo abilities and storylines.
    4. Bret is the only guy who would absolutely be a part of the screwjob and continue to sell it forever. I legit think he had a part in it because he knew WCW wouldn't know what to do with him. lol.
