Having fun, or sharing the depths of his soul - the range of what Elvis does with music is incredible. And there is simply no match for his glorious voice. imho

Apart from one or two occasions, e.g. Aloha From Hawaii he never seemed particularly on edge and appeared to enjoy himself much more than most performers, possibly knowing he could sing the dictionary and still get a standing ovation😊
mahon007 Absolutely right, they filmed so many hours of rehearsels and six complete shows, but only 90 min. for the movie came out. It's a shame. But on the 3 Set DVD THAT'S THE WAY IT IS THE COMPLETE WORKS all filmed stuff is available. Not in the best picture quality, but the sound is good.
Wow, I've never seen this before. I thought this was going to be the studio version from This is Elvis, or That's the Way It Is or whatever it was. It's the same time period. Elvis is playing the guitar in it too. But he's not rockin' all the filler notes like he is here, (or they don't show it). Great to see this.

Comfortable playing here and without looking. STAGE READY even for such a legend. Such a groove and standing RIGHT BEHIND ELVIS is his lead guitarist, fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member James Edward Burton -- you can tell they practiced this one together.
I believe it was George Harrison who said Elvis was one of the best rhythm guitar players he ever heard. Johnny Cash said he could listen to Elvis play rhythm guitar all day long and that he had so much rhythm.DJ Fontana said Elvis had so much talent that he could play any instrument he felt like playing..and he repeated anything Elvis many gifts have always been underated
I've always believed that, had Elvis lived, he would've eventually made his live shows more like this, more informal, just him, a guitar, and his rhythm section. At the same time, I can't see him ever not wanting that big, full sound his orchestra and back up singers gave him.

1964 Gretch Country Gentleman electric guitar Elvis is using. Sadly after this 1970 you never see Elvis playing electric guitar again and acoustic guitar mainly a prop until 76/77 when you saw him actually playing full songs with it again. If you look some of his best work is when he picks up guitar and plays. Example 1954/55 Sun Sessions....1956 with Dorsey Brothers on TV such as Money Honey, Heartbreak Hotel, Shake Rattle & Roll/Flip Flop and Fly also Milton Berle with Blue Suede Shoes and Heartbreak Hotel. 1960 with Elvis is Back banging out with Reconsider Baby, Like A Baby. Doesn't really pick up guitar again till the 1968 Comeback Special. 1969 he did play on some of the Memphis Sessions and Vegas he played a lot of acoustic and electric. 1970 Jan/Feb Vegas he played some, rehearsals in July/August for That's The Way It Is he played acoustic and electric guitar. Shows he played a little acoustic and this special segment brought out the electric. Played some electric at Houston Astrodome in 1970 but that was last of electric guitar. 1976/77 played acoustic on That's Alright Mama, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Blue Christmas and Reconsider Baby

You can definitely tell here that Elvis could play the guitar. His wrist movement is nice and smooth not stiff like some are!!! He might not have been the best on the guitar, but he knew his way around it for sure.😉
