    I just got this pencil and I figured out that you have to let the weight fall backwards instead of towards the tip and THEN lock it, it doesn't rattle at all if you do it that way. Just putting this here in case someone else finds it annoying :)

    There is a version of this that has a metal clip. 😁 Personally, I really liked this mechanical pencil and used it all throughout my architecture school. I guess I just liked the convenience of having the eraser there and it being refillable. (Tip for it falling is to put some masking tape near the inside to stop it from falling off. I even use a different eraser refill that is thinner than the original and it never fall off.) It is also quite cheap for a cheapskate like me. Also having a longer tip is really nice to use with rulers. I've gone through 2 of these pencils by that 5 years. The shaking mechanism is also fun to play with when I'm thinking. 😂😅 only thing I didn't like is the color of the body fading in time. But I guess that is to be expected from plastic.

      That is the weight for the shaking function. When shaking, the weight will jump up and down, pressing and pushing the lead out, let’s say it works like how we press the top button to push the lead out. You can drag the clip (up or down, I can’t remember, you can see in the video) to stop the weight from moving. However, it just limits the movement of the weight and can’t stop it totally. Unfortunately, there is no option to take the weight off. :(

    Hi! I got the Tombrow Mono Graph Pencil, and it has a lock feature so that lead does not come when it shakes in a backpack, car, etc. The problem I have however, is that when I do shake the pencil to get more lead out of it, it just got in to the lock and doesn’t allow lead. Do you know why this is happening ?

    • @fanofpencils-cleo774
      @fanofpencils-cleo774  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I haven’t stumbled on this issue but I guess your pencil is unfortunately broken. There is a notch inside that helps you feel the tactility when you push the lock on. If you can’t feel it, it might break already. 😶

    In your experience, which mechanical pencil is the best for drawing?

    • @fanofpencils-cleo774
      @fanofpencils-cleo774  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Best for drawing... Hmm, hard question. Wooden pencils must be a in the list as well, they come in lots of varied hardnesses and are used by artists. Some artists only use wooden pencils, some mix with mechanical pencils for fine lines. At the end, a good pencil for drawing has to:
      - Has a proper weight. Many artists who draw for living prefer them light for less fatigue reason, and also it's easy for them to control and feel the pressure on paper. But some prefer heftier pencils.🤷‍♀️
      - Be sturdy, has no rattling sound
      - Has a comfy grip
      - Has a proper diameter for the hand
      - Clip is optional but if it has a clip, clip shouldn't get in the way
      - Has a reliable chuck/clicking mechanism.
      No shoes fits all but I list down some affordable names for your consideration: Pilot S series, Pentel Sharp P200, ... And a lot other good brands.
      Warning: I haven't tried many brands and I don't draw much. If you have another favorite Brand you can just pick a pencil with above requirements from that brand. 😊

    • @lambogenie5048
      @lambogenie5048 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm an artist and I primarily use mechanical pencils because it's convenient i.e. doesn't need to sharpen the lead. If I wanted to shade the drawing I'll use a lead holder which has a 2mm or even bigger 5.6 mm lead. I also collect several of them and all I can say is it really doesn't matter which brand you choose. It depends on how comfortable it is and how long you've been using it, even the hefty ones you'll eventually get used to it and it would feel lighter the next time. I haven't experienced fatigue in long hours maybe bc I have a light grip which helps. However if you like a broad range of contrast or tone to your drawings then you would definitely need woodcase pencils bc lead from mech pencils are limited in that range.

    Hi, Do you have any personal suggestions of a really good mechanical pencil?

    • @fanofpencils-cleo774
      @fanofpencils-cleo774  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is very subjective when talking about taste. I spent like a year to know what I like and it happens to be just a humble plastic pencil, Pilot S3 in transparent green. Thou I possess a few high-end mechanical pencils, the one I come back is just the S3, I feel less risky as I’m clumsy :) and also S3 offers everything I need from a mechanical pencil, the feel of it is very sturdy with great balance in hand. I would say a good pencil is the one suits your personality and give you the calm of mind :). Rattling pencils are the worst, stay away from them

    which one do you prefer mono graph or kuru toga specially for drawing.

    • @fanofpencils-cleo774
      @fanofpencils-cleo774  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      🤔 Personally, talking about drawing, I'd prefer a solid pencil which doesn't rattle nor distract me. The problem with Mono graph is at its shaking mechanism and the flimsy clip.
      For Kuru Toga, apparently, I believe it is designed for general writing especially for Japanese, Chinese letters which needs multiple line strokes in a very confined area. In term of drawing, the auto-spinning mechanism makes it impossible for me to control line thickness. However, I know some people are really good at using Kuru Toga Roulette (it spins twice slower than the Advance) in making engineering sketches or even arts. 😊 It's deffinitely personal choice and habit.
      Hope this helps! 🙂

But Pilot is also very famous with shaker pencils, many of them are under $7, do some google search. I know Tombow is more popular but Pilot has better quality.
