Thanks for the review. I have the monograph shaker and I like it in hand, but like you, I hate the pocket clip mechanism. I also was not as big of a fan of the shaker feature as I thought I would be. The monograph zero looks like a pencil that I can get behind. I'm going to have to look into it.
The grip is so knurled, it looks smooth! Awesome video :)
It really surprised me. In a good way.
Totally agree on the clip issue. You should try out the Mono Graph Grip. Same shape, design, and features of the regular Mono Graph, but it doesn't have a garbage clip.
I really like the monograph, it is a sturdy plastic clip and can hold a lot of papers with no issue. Did you just notice the plastic and decide that its not sturdy? I have yet to see the clip break on anyones pencil. It also writes smooth and the eraser is among the best.
Thanks to your review I just ordered one of these from Amazon. Sounds like it could make it onto my top ten list. An extendable eraser is almost essential for me and I love the little Tombow Mono Zero stick erasers, so I'm really looking forward to having one on a pencil. I'm assuming I can use the eraser stick refills in the pencil if I just cut them down to size. I've also ordered the side button Tombow Graph from JetPens. I suspect it will end up being too fat for me, but it'll be fun to try. I'm not so fond of the shaker pencil (didn't realize it was a shaker when I bought it). The pocket clip isn't a problem for me since I don't really use them, but I find he pencil a bit bulky and the shaker mechanism is heavy. I never really shake it to advance the lead and I'm always forgetting to click the clip instead of the top. Nice eraser though. I know it's silly but I really like the Tombow products with the blue, white and black stripe. I've probably got at least one of everything they make with that pattern, pencils, erasers, correction tape, even the little lead box.
It's nice to hear you describe your preferences! Keep on collecting! :)
For my preferences in pencils, my personal favorite is the Pentel Sharp P203, simply because it is the most versatile pencil I've had. Cheap, reliable and durable (people on Amazon have had versions from the 70s still working fine and the quality has not changed, and please name one mechanical pencil with all of these characteristics, believe me, I've tried). Other ones I would use regularly are the Alvin Draftmatic (hardest knurled grip, I don't use a rOtring 600 daily for obvious reasons, including the knurling being not as hard), and the Pentel Orenz for insanely small detail.
I was looking for the old p203 thx for the référence !
Sorry, but I would have to disagree with you about the monograph shaker, I like the clip advance mechanism and I think it is more natural, and also I think the pocket clip is very sturdy and have used it many times. I also like the thicker eraser, and I think the monograph shaker looks more pretty. I would much rather buy a monograph shaker than the zero.
Asher Spira I agree. It is the same a pilot frixion clips.
yee
Thanks for the review. Just ordered a Graph Zero in lime green. Looking to replace a graph gear 1000 I’m currently using at work. The grip just doesn’t appeal to me on the graph gear 1000. I fear leaving my Rotring 600 on my desk, as it would hurt if it “walked away”, so it stays at home. Hoping this Graph Zero is a good compromise for me at work.
Their erasers are the best I've used to this day
I believe the eraser is a Tombow Mono Light one. True plastic resin eraser, not that rubber crap that most mechanical pencils come with
"flimsy pocket clip, nyugh"
best part
I do not like the kuru toga roulette, feels a bit more girthy than what i would be comfortable with. Should I go for the zero?
1:05 gave me a burger king foot lettuce flashback
How do you disassemble this pencil? The barrel is filled with graphite and i can not clean it.
Hi! I got the Tombrow Mono Graph Pencil, and it has a lock feature so that lead does not come when it shakes in a backpack, car, etc. The problem I have however, is that when I do shake the pencil to get more lead out of it, it just got in to the lock and doesn’t allow lead. Do you know why this is happening ?
any rattle on zero?
thank you so much for a very detailed review it makes my purchase decsion clear, i just want a sturdy and good mechanical pencil and more importantly cheap. so this might be. thanks again and more videos.
Is it possible to modify the mono zero rubber to fit this monograph zero?
How do you refill them???
I saw it in Taiwan, and I'd does comes in a variety of colors
How do you open the tip for the not shake one I can’t open the tip
I am not too sure if you have tried the Pentel Graph1000 (not Pentel Graphgear1000), but in my opinion it is a really basic and solid mechanical pencil that you may want to check out.
He has said that it's alright, but the grip really ruined it for him.
Quentin Jankosky did you hear him?! Pentel GRAPH1000 NOT PENTEL GRAPHGEAR1000
I disagree. The grip is very different on the GraphGear 1000 compared to the Graph 1000 for Pro.
It needs a pencil pouch. Staedtler 925-25-20 comes with a clear sleeve.
Marie Farbar why
I think you said the Mono graph shaker has a brass clutch. Is that right (i mean are you sure)? Because I ordered a Tombow Mono graph shaker pencil in white.
I am asking again, but does the standard Kuru toga have a brass clutch? It is difficult to open my pencil tip and check (only opened the chrome plated cover), can't take the risk. Have you seen?
Since the click is crispy I’ll have to say it’s brass
JetPens recently added the side click Tombow Mono Graph One for USD $4.20, would love to see a comparison between those three. Thanks!
Seeing that cheap plastic pocket clip, I'm not too inclined to invest any money in one.
I would like to see the Tokyo pen shop.
Can you review the tombow mono graph multi i wanna know all of the things with it
Yep, it's in the queue.
Hi, which one do you recommend for drawing purposes between Tombow Mono Graph Zero vs Uni Kuru Toga Pipe Slide vs Staedler Mars Micro 775?
Artists in the audience?
For drawing purposes definitely not the kuru toga one, the rotating mechanism is gonna be useless.
Thanks for your advise Oreo Cadbury.
@@oreocadbury.6226 yeh kinda regret buying it when I found out it's not good for drawing -,-|| i'll buy the tombow and pilot opt next time..
can you placement pilot the shaker ohto super promecha pentel 1000 uni shift
I have reviewed at least three of those on the Channel already. Use search.
Ty
Sir,if you dont mind, how to refill the mono graph one mech pen? Thank you so much
Take the entire plastic dock that holds the eraser out. It clicks out and back in place.
Does the tombow monograph zero have all same features as the tombow mono graph
Here's the Mono Graph Review! th-cam.com/video/icNqdCeSDg8/w-d-xo.html
how about a lamy alstar?
Is the tombow mono graph "shaker" in your honorable mentions?
Nope.
I agree that the Mono Graph's clip is a little lacking in quality.
However, I disagree with your assessment of the clicking action. I just don't get why you're clicking a shaker pencil. The click action is meant to be used only when you first load the lead, otherwise, the advancement is meant to be accomplished by shaking the pencil. And to be a shaker it has to have a mechanism that can be activated by the shifting of the weight within the pencil. For that to happen the click has to be less satisfying, but it shouldn't matter, since you're not clicking the pencil all that often.
What's an overall good shaker pencil you would recommend?
I recommend the Pilot Dr. Grip. Not all are shakers but I believe the G-Spec is.
Is the tombow monograph good for writing ?
I don't think monograph is... But monograph zero is for sure hidden gem. I've used so many mechanical pencils, there are so many expensive ones, but monograph zero is one of my top 2. i highly recommend you to experience monograph zero, it's real hidden gem with very affordable price.
@@joonkyusong547 Oh, okay! Tysm :D
“lemme borrow it” 💀😭
why would I ever need to know how much lead ten clicks gives me? Just asking.
Its a rough standard that people have been using online to give people an estimation as to how far of a lead extension you get on a click. It's much harder to visualize "a click gives you half a mm" than "10 clicks gives you five". Dave had been using this technique on his Mechanical Pencil Blog for years. As an educator, I think it's a good idea to help people understand.
They are pretty common in China. I just ordered three - the red, blue, and green - from Taobao. They are only about $4.5 converted
Great Pencil! Maybe try the Super Promecha 1500p
The clip on the Mono Tombow is a disappointment. Its scary to lock your lead into place for fear of breaking the clip. Shaking it would be better for advancement.
god i am crazy
pump the brakes...monograph zero is average at best.
not sure how this is "jam packed" with features. seems pretty basic. what am I supposed to be impressed with?
Thanks for your question! I'm here to break it down for you. The average, run-of-the-mill mechanical pencil really only has two features: lead advancement and an eraser. And those erasers can vary widely in quality. As mentioned in the video, this pencil has features that are quite different from most mechanical pencils: 1) Tombow makes a solid mechanism. Most mechanical pencil manufacturers skimp on this. 2) Extendable (and small) erasers are a rarity on mechanical pencils. You get the double advantage of extra eraser with minimal fuss and a small surface area to that eraser to do fine detail erasing. 3) The pocket clip is really solid. There are pocket clips that are just as good, to be sure, but you don't always find them on this same combination of features. 4) Knurled grip on a pencil at this price point, with these features, is pretty uncommon. The knurling of this grip is pretty nice in my eyes. I prefer sharp knurlings, and this one is pretty balanced. Not too soft. So, when I put those things together, I get a pencil that has way more going for it than the average run-of-the-mill pencil mentioned above. It's a pretty solid pencil. And my opinion is based upon personal taste. So, your definition of "jam-packed" may be very different than mine. That's ok. Make peace with it. We don't have to like the same things. What do you "have to be impressed with"? You don't have to be impressed with anything that I am. That's your call. But I'm not going to stop liking things that I like just because we disagree.
Clutch Situation that may be the best (and quickest) reply I've ever received. Fantastic. I appreciate it, and have a great day
