I have one question for you Jay, as a Mac user why not buy the FinalCut Pro bundle - where I get all pack of editing softwares instead of buying davince alone for the same price?
No particular reason. If you like FCP better, get that, and if you like Resolve better, get Resolve! There is no “best” software. There’s only “the best software for me.”
@@JayLippman I started with Davinci wanted to buy pack but it's over priced in India and i strugged a lot with node based editing. Then tried FCP and I heard about the whole package especially Apple Motion - Now I'm in dilemma which one to Learn FCP or Davinci
I will say this; as of right now FCP is used more often than Resolve in Hollywood-type settings, and also by video production companies that do commercial work, so if you’re looking to dive into that world immediately than FCP might be the better investment. That will likely be changing as time goes on though. More and more people are starting to really see the value in not only Resolve, but the entire BlackMagic Design ecosystem.
Hahaha 🤣 thank you for the warm welcome into the DR community 🙏🏽 nah but I totally agree with you, there’s no doubt theres a lot of great teachers and free lessons online, but as you mentioned yourself each person has their strong suite that they focus on. My goal with this course was to make it an all in one place to learn the entire program from start to finish and in that process I’ve spent countless hours studying the DR manual (which is really well done btw and I genuinely enjoy reading that thing) to get answers to a lot of questions I legit couldn’t find the answers to anywhere else. I know a lot of pro users are gonna hate because I’ve only been using the program for a solid year now but I’ve been editing for close to 15 years and I’ve applied all of that knowledge into this course and personally I feel like this is the course i would have wanted going into the software. But you can always go the free route as well! ✊🏽🙌🏽
Hey man! Thanks so much for watching! And yeah, no hate here. I get it. I’d be interested to check out the course sometime! Just gotta come up with the funds first. Maybe once I’m done buying a house lol (not saying your course is too much. Buying a house is just REALLY expensive 😂)
Happy for you to have made the switch and I am also happy for all the people discovering it through you now! :) It's just such a beautiful piece of software compared to what else is out there right now.
as someone making the transition from final cut, and actually picked up your course, I'll say I absolutely love the structure and organization! halfway through the modules now!
@Vaughn D. Taylor This comparison ain't it. His audience may not follow everyone mentioned in this video. Now they are more informed about the possibilities of DR and can choose to make the switch if they want, or seek out other resources. He has also created a course to help people make the switch. Not his fault he has a larger platform. His video was creative and didn't come off as a money grab.
Great video Jay! Thank you for the mention! There are so many great creators for DaVinci Resolve right here on TH-cam and its a really great community! I'm looking forward to meeting you at ResolveCon 2022! 😁👍
Good for you Jay! Never heard of Sam until now TBH! But thanks for the shout out and good call!! And love all my fellow Resolve TH-camrs sharing FREE knowledge that you mentioned in your video. Welcome to the club indeed SAM - Resolve is the way forward. A simple search on “DaVinci Resolve” on YT would bring us all up in your feed BTW!!! Enjoy resolve and welcome. We are a friendly bunch!!
this is a great list of resources, but sometimes i just can’t stand trying to filter through a bunch of TH-cam optimized titles to learn in a logical order. free TH-cam videos are amazing, but sometimes i’d like to just go from one logical part of a program to the next instead of bouncing around a channel.
I get that! That’s why I always push people towards the free training from BMD that actually leads to you becoming a certified user, or the free crash courses from Casey Faris or Learn Color Grading.
After being annoyed with Premiere for 3 years I finally managed to man up after watching Sam's video and ordered my Davinci Resolve 2 days ago and i was honestly kind of scared to click this video when I saw the title. As a beginner to davinci, this really helped. I wasn't really sure where to begin my learning process, what a pleasant surprise, thank you
@@Wertys Honestly... Ten thousand times better, I'll NEVER go back. I was also scared to switch because I felt I needed to learn everything all over again, It was like going from a rusty bicycle to a brand new motorbike. I had a stubborn love for Premiere as it was what i started out with, but after watching just few 1-2 hour tutorials I'm back in the game, editing faster than I've ever done in Premiere. I've had maybe two crashes so far (where I could pretty much instantly recover my project), as in premiere I would've had probably over 20 by now. It's easier to work with, easier to learn and way cheaper.. So worth it to learn ''over again'' and it's actually just fun to learn and edit now. Also the fusion and color tabs are just amazing, the future you would thank you for taking this step, I promise you 100%. I could write a full book about why it's better, watch Sam Kolder's video he put out 3 weeks ago about DR if you haven't already, everything he says is true.
@@Iflexis I did watch Sam’s video, that’s how I ended up here. A big issue though for my work personally is passing along the project. Not enough people have switched to Davinci. The other editors I work with don’t use it. Also, thank you for the detailed reply! :)
As someone who is just making the switch I think a big issue is how TH-cam recommends things. It seems like they either recommend super beginner tutorials, or high-end tv grading/effects tutorials - nothing in between The post-beginner pre-pro phase of using it doesn’t have much coverage unless you’re willing to sit through simple tutorials where you might not even get the answer you want. Just my experience so far
I just started using DR last month for really basic tasks when I reached the limits of the built-in Windows tools. I'm only a personal user, making videos for myself, nothing professional, but I wanted to be able to easily import videos from my phone and combine them for my own "home movies". Thanks to channels like this one for providing excellent tutorials on doing specific tasks. It's made the software a joy to use and the learning curve nowhere near as challenging as I thought.
Jake Wipp, Millolab Tuts, VFXstudy, Patrick Stirling, Filmcore Digital, etc. It's been awesome seeing the increase of Fusion VFX tutorials. Even Film Riot did one recently!
I'm no power filmaker or anything, I just wanna say, switching from premiere to resolve, everything kinda just MADE SENSE when editing. There's something about companies that make softwares FOR their own hardwares. They seem to understand what they're doing.
JRTV, William Justice, Film, The Modern Filmmaker, Jamie Fenn. I don't think Darren Mostyn has been going that long. For more nerdy Fusion stuff, I like a Blackbird called Sue as well. Anyway, agree with your point. I started learning on DR14 and there was a ton of material and free courses from Blackmagic back then
Thanks Dan! Those are all amazing creators. And you're right, Darren hasn't been on TH-cam long, but he's been in the industry for a long time and his channel is amazing!
Jamie Fenn, The Modern Filmmaker, Darren Frenette, Chris' Tutorials, Color Grading Insights (Kasia), Blackmagic Design, MrAlexTech, Learn Color Grading, Jason Yadlovski, Sofjas DaVinci Tutorials, Francesco Steinfeld, Andreas Abb, MotionEpicFX ( Playlist), Joris Hermans, Waqas Qazi , C0nti, VFXstudy, William Justice, Darren Mostyn, Essential Video Editing, Billy Rybka, Casey Faris, Filmmaker Central, Simon Stansfield, Aram K, Skyline Motions, Lazy Artist, VDV Productions, MiesnerMedia, Jay Lippman, That Modern Dude, S. Personally the best way I learned resolve was to just dive into a project I found the software to be incredibly user-friendly as opposed to Adobe. I would look up the odd thing here and there but there are plenty of online resources I find it laughable that everybody is jumping on board the resolve train. When I've been basically saying for years it will probably become the standard.
I agree Cullen is one of the best off the cuff, live teachers. He also is one of the few that I know that loves a challenging question and is happy, even at his level when someone gets the brain going and proposes a different perspective. ( Darren is in the same level for both of the compliments I just gave Cullen )
Great mentions but I'm rushing to the comment section to add Chadwick from Creative Video Tips, this guy saved me so many hours of my life by showing how to edit faster or show how to solve some common problems more efficiently. Absolute legend, has tons of quality stuff I hope he'll reach bigger audience as he really deserves it
lol, I thought exactly the same when I saw that. But I guess from a marketing point of view, that was probably the better way to attract buyers for his course. He coudl've frame it "How I switched" or something like that instead but that would leave out the idea of scarcity, which helps with sales. Either way, his followers would've bought it no matter the name because the name behind it.
Ohw- thank you so much for linking all the channels, I'm a 3D artist and I kinda get the point of the other guy's video, sometimes it's hard in the beginning to instantly find out the best TH-cam channels for learning a specific topic, so this video was extremely helpful, I've been using both premiere and resolve for some time, I might just switch to 100% resolve with all of these new resources to learn from, thanks so much!
Waqas qazi- the guy who gave me confidence on resolve, huge thanks to qazi. Darren mostyn - the swim coach of colour page ocean. Jayare tv- things that i didnt know that i could do with resolve. Alex tech- hey ya all, davinci is friendly cat, not a tiger 😄.
I was gonna start a riot if you didn't mention Mr. Alex Tech haha, so glad you did! Honestly, I find that it's FASTER to find info because when you Google it, you'll just get a few videos from one or more of these channels you mentioned, rather than 43 videos about X feature in PP, 37 of which don't answer the question. Basically there is JUST as much good info out there and far less bad info.
Dude I was just about to plunk down some money for Sam's course. This was awesome. Thank you. One of my big issues with TH-cam is you can get a lot of beginner tutorials but I want to really deeply learn this stuff so I can't wait to check out these vids. I feel the same way about Blender. Really want to learn that. Happy to plunk some money down for a course.
As someone who switched to Resolve from Premiere about 3 weeks ago, I COMPLETELY DISAGREE with Sam. As I was figuring it out, there’s a plethora of content available. I’ve actually been looking for useful paid courses that’s what I can’t really find. But getting started stuff? More than plenty. Enough to get me by and haven’t opened premiere in weeks. Thanks for mentioning those other channels I’ll be sure to check them out as I have not heard of them before.
Thanks so much for watching Brad!! I'd suggest checking out the free courses from Blackmagic Design before trying any paid courses. They'll definitely get you comfortable with Resolve. It's linked in the description!
Casey Faris's crash course for Resolve was 👌. Fast, efficient and a good way to get stuck in for free. I'm also potentially going to buy one of his courses as I'm a fan of his delivery style. I was actually signed up to Sam's release as I'm very new in the space and just investigating. At $1,200 I was not interest and found myself to what feels like a better fit. Signed up to the event too. Thanks for being a part of it!
I have seen a number of big TH-camrs do the "I"m changing to Resolve" . They were Premiere users, and after a while they go back to Premiere. I am wondering if BlackMagic are paying these people to try it. If it is paid promotion it is bad promotion, because they try it and return to their old NLE's.
Well done. I'm definitely checking out those channels and their tutorials. Especially the Fusion guy as I'm really trying to break my AE dependence. Also I must admit your videos I watched from back in late 2019/ early 2020 really helped me make the switch and I really appreciate that. Also big shout out to Waqaz Qazi and Cullen Kelly who I think are awesome Resolve creators too especially when it comes to color grading which is the major reason I was looking for something other than PP in the first place. Kudos to everyone helping to develop the Resolve community too.
I found this video after watching sam's video and thank you so much for posting it. I look forward to learning what you and the creators are posting and learning what I can from you all as I begin to learn and dive into video editing, and creating videos and visuals.
Jay, I hear you, but it’s the type of thing that people who are selling something say. Just accept it. Even if their product is a total ripoff of someone else’, they’ll say “I didn’t see good resources out there”
Started learning Resolve a couple weeks ago, primarily following along with Blackmagic's own guides, and they have been fantastic at giving me a holistic understanding of all the features, as well as alternate methods to accomplish the same task, and even giving me a better understanding of how to make editorial decisions. Incredible that not only their software is free but these resources are free. I also enjoyed Sam's video on Resolve, but I did lol when he said there weren't enough resources. Courses gotta pay the bills, I guess
Whatever is being taught by anyone through a masterclass for any price, the exact same information will also be given for free on the internet. What I personally enjoy with Sam's class are - A to Z workflow approach - all the learning I can't wait to get on the daVinci course - A very motivated community of people hungry to create content together and helping each other to grow I've signed up to a few masterclasses and Sam's one was to best by far in these aspects
I personally have not watched anything from Sam Kolder. But in the Davinci Resolve group in Facebook - ( which by the way answers hundreds of questions and has regular input from Hollywood colorists ( Marc Wielage, Walter Volpatto, Jamie Dickinson, Mark Todd Osborne and many others) and experts from all over the world ( Darren Mostyn, Joey D'anna, Jason Bowdach etc. ) And regular help from BMD reps - ( Peter Chamberlain, Rohit Gupta and others ) } , Sam's name has come up after he announced he was switching to Davinci Resolve. The big debate however is that apparently he has a course on Davinci Resolve that costs $800.00. Where not only is that a heck of a lot of money, but being a good filmmaker, is not a reason to charge that much for a course on a software, that apparently he just switched to. All the people you mention including yourself, have the credentials of at least using the software long enough to know all the ins and outs. And yes I agree, the more jumping on board, with Resolve the better. But my advice is to take advantage of all the free and really well thought out resources that you mentioned, before forking out 800.00 for a course, that if designed by him, and is coming from a lack of experience of the software - or commissioned and designed by someone else, to use all the resources out there, like the BMD training - and great youTubers like the gang you mentioned. I have the unique position of being friends with tons of people who are out there helping people with Resolve. And most have great attitudes But the ones that I respect the most, love to teach and enjoy helping other people. So lots of respect for them, and really proud to be friends with them - even if it is just virtual. Yourself included Jay. I am at the time in my life where I just do what I like to do and not worry about money - So one of the things I like, is supporting good people that are teaching others and helping others. So good on all you guys.
Thanks so much Jim! Yeah, my biggest issue(s) is that he tried to sell his $800 course by completely disregarding all of the people who have been working hard for years to not only learn, but also turn around and teach Davinci Resolve. I definitely struck a nerve.
Respect Jim! This thread has resonated with me too, that a TH-camr of over 1m views can dominate (this video has 10X more than most seen my highest ever video ever in just 7 days) and claim to teach you resolve when using it for only 6 months is crazy! Full respect and Kudos to Sam that he is skilled and knows his stuff (I’m not questioning that) but if I only did 6 months on Resolve I promise you i could not teach you it deep and Ive been using it for 13 years!
I started learning the software pretty much 4 years ago. Even back then there were a ton of great videos and resources to learn from. I still have a playlist of some fantastic videos from that time. However, back then there wasn't such a huge variety like today. I remember desperately trying to make my own stinger transition in fusion while struggling to figure out how to export with alpha channel. But man, times have changed. These days there are plugins, presets, courses, discord servers and of course tons of amazing content creators like the ones mentioned in the video and you. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I greatly appreciate it. Telling people that there aren't enough resources to learn DR made me furious too. C'mon Sam. You have such a huge community behind you and there are so many people watching your videos, there's really no need for that. I understand that you want to sell your course and that's completely fine, but you should stick to the truth. And the truth is that there ARE enough resources and content creators that should be appreciated and respected.
i knew the title was a bait click, God am always happy when we get tricked into getting something valuable in return, am add something funny here, i was stuck to choose which nle software to learn over a decade fearing of the disappointments and depression i might get wasting time learning useless tool cause of some dale hype, i know; how ironic wasted time fearing wasting time, but what i truly needed was what kold offered on why he decided to switch to resolve, that was some top noche video imo. glad i found you too :)
Haha, I totally missed the video he did. All you guys teaching Resolve on TH-cam do an amazing job! In my case I maxed out what was possible in Fusion, and now find myself using Blender to composite more memory intensive 3d scenes.
Hey Jay , I m using Davinci Resolve on a laptop and it s struggling a lot , I mean , I know that the laptot is not the problem because it has a amd 5900HX and a RTX3070 and 32gb of ram . The problem is that when I m on the media pool , the footage struggles a lot to start playing back . Also the render cache just disapears with no reason and I can t playback effects ( but the render cache is still activated but it doesn t render cache ) . And sometimes ,when it renders cache, some frames are « media offline » but then I change the timeline resolution to half and the « media offline » message disapears . Even if I relink the files , when it renders it says media offline just on some frames . I got all my footage optimized media generated and they re all in different ssd for speed optimization and it still doesn’t work fluidly , I wanna cry . Do you know any solution ? I ve been looking trought the internet but no one seems to have the same problem as me :(((
I totally agree with your list. Additionally: Color Grading Central, Creative Video Tips, Jamie Fenn, Lazy Artist, Waqas Qazi, FilmSimplified. for brazilians (tutorials in portuguese) we also have : Davinci Resolve Tutoriais, AvMakers, Brainstorm Tutoriais
There definitely aren’t the same amount of davinci tutorials as there are premiere. The benefit of premiere is that you can kinda choose the teacher you like. That being said, the main reason he said there weren’t resources to learn from online is to make his course look attractive and get sales. That’s actually the only reason he made the whole video. He’s hyping up davinci, not because he’s sponsored by davinci but because if he can convince people they want it and also convince people that he’s the best way to learn it, he makes money. Nothing Sam posts anymore is more than sales and this video wasn’t any exception.
solid list of resources, much appreciated! I will always maintain my adobe cc sub for client versitility, but most of my work load has switched over the resolve in the last year. I'm a huge fan of the speed editor and prefere resolve's use of gpu accelerated rendering over premiere's - resolve also seems to work better overall on my PC too, where as Premiere's various issues with windows have cost me days of downtime in the past.
What a polite way of quarrelling. 😂. Also I think Sam was saying there are no really well grounded full on course you could buy on DaVinci resolve. Only very few. That is not the normal search on TH-cam and subscribe thing but courses that some one can take and get the whole package on one shop stop. Nice one though I knew every on you recommend here already aside the Dave did it guy. Thanks always love your contents
You also forget to mention VFXstudy channel which really really shine in teaching compositing and motion graphic with fusion inside Davinci resolve , check him out , he is davinci mater trainer, also learn color grading channel is very good. The guy is trying to promote for his course
I realize this is 9 months old at this time but when trying to Learn Davinci Resolve What's wrong with BMD own "Davinci Resolve Training found right under the HELP in the top Line.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it! I actually highly encourage people to go through the official training. That being said, sometimes watching non-BMD tutorials can introduce you to new thought processes and even tools that aren’t shown in the official training
@@JayLippman Jay U R Absolutely correct Bro. One thing that Newbees need to know is that all the Preferences must be set up before starting any Project. If the Preferences are not set up all kinds of crap will happen one doesn't expect. Have an awesome Memorial day Bro.
Totally agree. Davinci is one of those companies that puts out tons of educational material about their software for free. But if you're going to buy a course, probably best to buy one from someone who's a colorist, like Cullen Kelly or Denver Riddle. I've also been recommending Darren Mostyn. Kolder made a hit with travel videos and popularized extreme Teal & Orange color grades, but I wouldn't put him up there as a colorist by any means.
Ive used davinci resolved for a while now and never really looked for tutorials but then I saw sam kolders video and thought this course might be a very nice way to step up the skills - then I saw the price:/ but ofcourse he says that there are not enough resources online to promote his course I really love his videos and everyone needs to make money but a lot of skills you can learn online for free :) so I subbed to your Channel and will check out every other channel youve mentioned 👍
Is there a button with bigger positive effect than the like button?? Amazingly transparent and relevant. I can't thank you enough for speaking up like this.
Every single one of these guys are AWESOME & ACCESSIBLE!!! I've personally reached out to Jason, Patrick, and Billy and I have to tell you, they were more than gracious with their time. They're the BEST!!!
Nope. BMD has a strict policy against working with creators in that capacity. And there are plenty of sales pitches he could have used that wouldn’t have disrespected a whole community of people who have been using and teaching Resolve a lot longer than he has.
I sadly do not have hardware for something more advanced in Resolve. I do basic video editing and animation tiles hehe and I am Resolve user from version 16 beta 😁. Before it I used Cyberlink PowerDirector and I can say difference according to Resolve was biiig. Thank you all creators making videos for us to learn 😎👍
Thank you Jay. Really appreciate this video of yours. I had seen that video of Sam Kolder and I had loved the way he had succinctly summarized Da Vinci’s features. Then I had complimented him for it. Then as an after thought I decided to check his link to see what his tutorials were about. I got a shock when I saw what he was charging especially, just as you had mentioned I had seen so many good tutorials from various more than generous people who had shared their DV skills.. I immediately saw the pattern of this person.. in every profession we see people like these .. healthcare ceos are top of this entitlement chain … they learnt everything by “themselves” and are now “entitled” to “ lord and charge” the ignorant with their magnanimous knowledge and charge them for imparting their knowledge benevolently for a price !!!! People like him with this Attitude are destroying this country. Thanks for calling him out.
Black Magic Design/DaVinci Resolve is so awesome that they even invited me to a Train-The-Trainer program in Burbank,CA years ago. I learned so much, fast! Their online free training is great too! Can’t wait to brush up my skills on the 18 release.
I just had Jay's WTF? reaction last week reading a comment by someone chiming in to a thread by a novice who asked about what to learn because he'd outgrown MovieMaker. A lot of people including myself suggested Resolve. But one guy had to go and state uncategorically "Davinci Resolve is intended for run and gunners." It took me a minute to find a list of outstanding award winning Hollywood blockbusters produced using Resolve. "Yeah, well, but, ... of course I meant . . . " LOL. And to say there's no documentation or online help? I'd turn into George Carlin or Lewis Black to respond to that statement.
I've learned everything I know about resolve online for free. I haven't had to do color correction or anything, but just like with using GIMP, if there's a super specific thing you need to know, there's a super specific video about how to do it. I have no idea why anyone starting out would pay for video editing software, and even once you need more advanced tools, you can just buy resolve studio.
I just watched his video, well it was obvious what he was doing as he was promoting his Davinci Resolve training course so of course he will not tell people that there are lots of resources on TH-cam because that will defeat the whole purpose of persuading people to buy his course.
I love Resolve as a colorist tool and for film editing. But when it comes to music videos and VFX Adobe AE is the winner. The fusion tab is over complicated in my opinion. It even feels like basic green screen is over complicated to me. My favorite tool now is Depth Map now that is a game changer.
My biggest complaint is the lack of tutorials for fusion. You can find tutorials for how to do basic compositing and text, but rarely find any tutorials that explore the deeper and more complex parts of particle systems, 3d model integration, and other higher level things, you can find a video for the pretty much anything you could ever want to do with After Effects. While Resolve itself, as an editor and coloring solution does have plenty of tutorials - a large part of the software is being left out.
Jay come on... probably at the time he tried it out there was not as much resources as there is now... because to be honest 5 years ago, the amount of tutorial content on rwsolve was not wholesome... Now yes you guys and blackmagic have filled up that void. So I get his point... I made the switch a year ago and some part of me still misses a few things about premiere. Of course when I remember how abusive premiere was with its crashes and all I snap out of it. Lol... So yeah now more than ever it's easy to find resources on DR. One of my new favourites is Video Editor Studio. They have some dope quick tuts. Shout out to Casey, Waqas, Darren, Mr. Alex, Jay and all you lot for sharing your knowledge with us. Much appreciated.
I think it’s all about the type of editing style you’re trying to achieve , so you’d follow tutorials from specific editors only . I mean would be cool to watch them all tho…amazing content you putting out there for us ! Thanks man
Thanks for the awesome list. Being a new user of DR I’ve managed to find a few of them already but glad to find the rest. I found getting you hands dirty and getting into the software and just learning is fun. Great work.
its not easy to move from after effect to fusion when you spend years doing after effect for your career. its confusing. that said, i just wish after effect is as stable and fun as resolve cut and edit page.
Yea, that commment that Sam made was stricly Marketing Vernacular for increased Sales... Its a Sales Tactic... all be it an Outdated one... I remeber saying things like that when I worked for a Mortage company in early 2000's
all resolve con are A+, as well as JayAreTv (Verified Trainer), Pirates Of Confusion (Super detailed Composting), Learn Color Gragding (Color), Creative Video Tips ( great tips Of all Resolve), Davinci Resolve How! (Fusion Code)
That may have been true when I first found Davinci Resolve back around 15 and the transition to 16. Just got hooked up again with the news about Davinci Resolve 18 and a new cruise video I'm working on. MAN, was I shocked at how many folks are out there now. I follow Alex Jordan, Waqas Qazi, Darren Mostyn, JayAreTV, Cullen Kelly, Creative Video Tips, William Justice, Jamie Fenn and some jokester named Jay Lippman. (Casey and Mr. Alex were also familiar to me.) My focus of late has been color correction and color grading. By far my biggest weakness. But thanks to all these creators I'm getting a better grasp on not only what to do, but how to do it. All from TH-cam. It's a massive community. And yes, can't wait for October either!
@@larzous2407 Agree, he has great insight you typically don't find. He gave a tip about setting up your timeline for Davinci YRGB Color Managed and Davinci Wide Gamut. Then found him again on not only why, but how to override my issues with my titles being all washed out. Both from Creative Video Tips. I find myself rewinding and trying to follow along all the time.
I think a beginner should try both and keep the one that suits them best. Neither is particularly beginner friendly, but they’ll both give you everything you need to make videos. Really the differences all lie in the pricing and the workflow, and workflow is all a matter of preference.
Personally, I love that there are so many creators that specialize in varying skills within resolve. Everyone probably has a specific resolve page they spend more time in than the others, and it’s really an awesome community here on TH-cam. Personally, I’ve got to focus more on the Fusion page, because color is my specialty. But I really enjoy being as well rounded as possible, and all of these channels mentioned help with that!
Wow thank you so much! Interestingly TH-cam‘s algorithm showed me Sam‘s video first when I was looking into DaVinci and I almost got suckered into paying for his course until I found this video. there are so many resources out there granted I didn’t look too hard after finding his video cause it felt like a great idea to just hit the ground running but THANK YOU. You’ve saved me like 8-$900 dollars.
millolab is one of the more impressive providers of tutorials for Fusion I've come across, very informative. Sometimes maybe a bit more on the advanced side, but he always delivers really top tier quality visual effects. He has made some very useful Reactor scripts for the free must-have Resolve plugin as well.
OFF I dare to ask, as you have very good tutorials here. How is it possible to add correct dimensions in pixels in Fusion? Also, there is not any chance to arrange objects in proper positions, there is not a chance to align. No grids, no rulers. In short, I miss very, very, very much the features to do precise work. In After Effects you setup anything with ease from pivot point to distribution align. Thank you ON
There's no grid that I know of in Fusion. There's one in the edit page under GENERATORS in the Effects library. All aligning of composite elements can be done using a transform node or merge node.
@@JayLippman Thank you for your reply. Yes, this is a headache and frankly I have no idea how it is possible. This is a very basic thing to add dimensions and position.
The best think I can think of is to use a PNG of a grid with a transparent background and then lower the opacity on it. Place it on top of your composite using a merge node, and then delete it when you're done.
To be fair - Sam’s video got a lot of attention which is great for DR. It got my attention and I purchased resolve shortly thereafter. I then hit TH-cam for free tutorials and discovered Casey - his DR18 getting started video got me going out the gate strong. This list of other creatives you just listed off is going to be invaluable in my transition (of NLE…). Sam’s video can’t be discounted and I’d love to see Blackmagic’s sales of resolve since Sam released that video - I’m curious to see what change (if any) in sales trend occurred. I’m saving this video - all these channels sound incredible! And finally…. Adobe, it’s over. It’s not you… it’s me (that was a lie)
Like I said in the beginning of the video, this was just a list of a few people/places you can turn to in order to learn Resolve. There are a lot of us.

💪❤️
Thanks so much man! I’ll see you in October!
Thanks for the shout-out man! Yeah his video definitely struck a nerve lol glad that you're counteracting that with this!
Thanks man! Yeah it got under my skin a little bit lol.
Thanks so much Darren! And my pleasure!
word. I think the Resolve community is one of the best things about making the switch🤘
Agreed! It's super supportive!
this is a great list of resources, but sometimes i just can’t stand trying to filter through a bunch of TH-cam optimized titles to learn in a logical order. free TH-cam videos are amazing, but sometimes i’d like to just go from one logical part of a program to the next instead of bouncing around a channel.
I wasn't really sure where to begin my learning process, what a pleasant surprise, thank you
Hahahahahaha sorry for the bait and switch. In all honesty, everything else he said about Resolve is spot on. Thanks for watching!
Good choice! I'd take DR any day over Premier - though I am mainly a VEGAS user.
How is Davinci going? I've been using Premiere for over 10 years and am terrified to make a switch.
Great video mate! Love the way you packaged the title and thumbnail
Thank you!
As someone who is just making the switch I think a big issue is how TH-cam recommends things. It seems like they either recommend super beginner tutorials, or high-end tv grading/effects tutorials - nothing in between
The post-beginner pre-pro phase of using it doesn’t have much coverage unless you’re willing to sit through simple tutorials where you might not even get the answer you want.
@@JayLippman thanks Jay. Yes My channel not been going long coz I was busy working in Resolve as a colourist until COVID lockdowns happened!!

Cullen Kelly is definitely one of the top tier color correction instructors and developers in the world.
Cullen is awesome!
Cullen is top level. I 100% endorse his channel and what he says is good.
I agree Cullen is one of the best off the cuff, live teachers. He also is one of the few that I know that loves a challenging question and is happy, even at his level when someone gets the brain going and proposes a different perspective. ( Darren is in the same level for both of the compliments I just gave Cullen )
i totally agree
There are wannabes, and then theres Mr. Kelly.
Great mentions but I'm rushing to the comment section to add Chadwick from Creative Video Tips, this guy saved me so many hours of my life by showing how to edit faster or show how to solve some common problems more efficiently. Absolute legend, has tons of quality stuff I hope he'll reach bigger audience as he really deserves it
Lots of people have mentioned him in the comments. He’s amazing!
Lazy Artist is my favorite. He gives out a 1-2 minute fusion recipe just about every day with humor every time.
Just found that channel a couple months ago. They're great videos!
Yeah+1 for Lazy
Yessir he’s a blessing
JayAreTV was one of the first Creator ive seen on TH-cam as i switched to Davinci Resolve, his tutorials helped me a lot :)
Same!!
lol, I thought exactly the same when I saw that. But I guess from a marketing point of view, that was probably the better way to attract buyers for his course. He coudl've frame it "How I switched" or something like that instead but that would leave out the idea of scarcity, which helps with sales. Either way, his followers would've bought it no matter the name because the name behind it.
Don't forget Wasqas Quazi, he's the one I started to follow for only color grading at the beginning
We can't sleep on Waqas Qazi's Channel. Both he and Darren Mostyn have thought me a lot.
Qaznation and Kelly✨
I found this video after watching sam's video and thank you so much for posting it. I look forward to learning what you and the creators are posting and learning what I can from you all as I begin to learn and dive into video editing, and creating videos and visuals.
Thank you so much!!
all the guys you mentioned are awesome go-to peeps and they dont charge 799 for basic video tutorials.
Well, yeah, there's that too lol. Thanks for watching Chris!
What I personally enjoy with Sam's class are
- A to Z workflow approach
- all the learning I can't wait to get on the daVinci course
- A very motivated community of people hungry to create content together and helping each other to grow
I've signed up to a few masterclasses and Sam's one was to best by far in these aspects
Definitely his price is not justified
Its a Marketing Strategy, thats how you make money.
My thoughts exactly. Thanks so much for watching!
i knew the title was a bait click, God am always happy when we get tricked into getting something valuable in return,
am add something funny here, i was stuck to choose which nle software to learn over a decade fearing of the disappointments and depression i might get wasting time learning useless tool cause of some dale hype,
i know; how ironic wasted time fearing wasting time, but what i truly needed was what kold offered on why he decided to switch to resolve, that was some top noche video imo.
glad i found you too :)
Waqas Qazi is a master colorist in davinci Resolve he’s literally like the best guy to learn color grading in resolve on TH-cam hands down
Genuinely shocked that the Qazmaster wasn’t listed. Absolutely love Waqas Qazi. A must watch for color nerds
Fairlight needs way more built in effects, it needs a spectral view and tools to edit that view, like different selection options and heal tool.
Haha, I totally missed the video he did. All you guys teaching Resolve on TH-cam do an amazing job! In my case I maxed out what was possible in Fusion, and now find myself using Blender to composite more memory intensive 3d scenes.
I'm to changing over to DR.
Hahahaha do it! I’m here if you need any help getting started
Thanks for sharing all of these creators! One of my favs you didn’t mention is definitely Qazi for color grading.
Darren Mostyn is THE MAN!!!
Thank you for the links and letting us know who to turn to with our questions.
Cheers.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I do not use the Vinci but loved this video ♥️
Haven't checked out the Brazilian channels, but 100% agree with the rest!
Waqas Qazi for color grading.
Jake Wipp for fusion and don't forget Jay Lippman for some good stuff 👍
You also forget to mention VFXstudy channel which really really shine in teaching compositing and motion graphic with fusion inside Davinci resolve , check him out , he is davinci mater trainer, also learn color grading channel is very good. The guy is trying to promote for his course
There is also Chadwick over at Creative Video Tips, he does some amazing quick and to the point tutorials that have been a huge help for me.
Should be $98
Is there a button with bigger positive effect than the like button??
Amazingly transparent and relevant. I can't thank you enough for speaking up like this.
It was because of your videos Jay on DaVinci Resolve that we switched 1 year ago...and we have never looked back.
Every single one of these guys are AWESOME & ACCESSIBLE!!! I've personally reached out to Jason, Patrick, and Billy and I have to tell you, they were more than gracious with their time. They're the BEST!!!
Hi Jay. You, Billy Ripca, Cassy Fer: and Mr Alex Tech. Are the best to follow. Sorry for the short abbreviations. But all good people to Follow.
Thanks Alex!
This was just a sales pitch from Kold. I'm pretty sure he even gets money from BM for shifting to DVR
Nope. BMD has a strict policy against working with creators in that capacity. And there are plenty of sales pitches he could have used that wouldn’t have disrespected a whole community of people who have been using and teaching Resolve a lot longer than he has.
I like Waqas Qazi for his color stuff along with Darren Mostyn. Those two have improved my grading so much.
Agreed!
I appreciate the video, Jay. All good pts. First round's on me in Eugene
Appreciate that Mark!!
Thank you!!
@@JayLippman No problem and thank you that you answer comments 😀. Have amazeballz day pipls :D
But one guy had to go and state uncategorically "Davinci Resolve is intended for run and gunners."
It took me a minute to find a list of outstanding award winning Hollywood blockbusters produced using Resolve. "Yeah, well, but, ... of course I meant . . . " LOL.
And to say there's no documentation or online help? I'd turn into George Carlin or Lewis Black to respond to that statement.
Really? How do I color grade multi layer AE projects on Da Vinci? I tried it and it was a nightmare!
Premiere to Da Vinci is not a problem at all!
How good is the free version of resolve? which one provides good guide for the free version?
I just watched his video, well it was obvious what he was doing as he was promoting his Davinci Resolve training course so of course he will not tell people that there are lots of resources on TH-cam because that will defeat the whole purpose of persuading people to buy his course.
Wasn't that the cut away to his product?
I love Resolve as a colorist tool and for film editing. But when it comes to music videos and VFX Adobe AE is the winner. The fusion tab is over complicated in my opinion. It even feels like basic green screen is over complicated to me. My favorite tool now is Depth Map now that is a game changer.
Great video! I subbed. Also Idk why but this video made me want to buy Sam’s course even more lol
I actually agree with you on that. That’s one of the things I’m trying to help correct on my channel.
@@JayLippman please do we need it 1 be the first and last
Jay come on... probably at the time he tried it out there was not as much resources as there is now... because to be honest 5 years ago, the amount of tutorial content on rwsolve was not wholesome...
He said himself he had only been using it for a year.
I've been learning resolve from many TH-camrs some of them you mentioned but the one who introduced me to resolve is waqqad qazi or qazman
I think it’s all about the type of editing style you’re trying to achieve , so you’d follow tutorials from specific editors only . I mean would be cool to watch them all tho…amazing content you putting out there for us ! Thanks man
William Justice is a really underrated Fusion artist!!! He deserves more attention
I agree!!
I've been using both now. Whichever does the job! AE is cool too.
Absolutely love this. Thank all of you guys that helped guys like me learn resolve for FREE.
Jayaretv has been teaching Davinci Resolve for a while.
Cullen Kelly. Juan Melara. Stefan Ringelschwandtner. Daria Fissoun. (Goats eye view channel). Avery Peck.
All great channels!
Goats eye view channel like 5 years ago
@@unityindiversity1708 I know it is mostly about resolve 12.5. But still very good and valid content if you are interested in color grading.
Dude thank you so much! Your video has been amazing🤭 I’m curious how much Access do I get with the free version of Da Vinci Resolve?
try
Yea, that commment that Sam made was stricly Marketing Vernacular for increased Sales... Its a Sales Tactic... all be it an Outdated one... I remeber saying things like that when I worked for a Mortage company in early 2000's
Thank God I found this channel! I DEFINITELY liked, and subscribed!😊
all resolve con are A+, as well as JayAreTv (Verified Trainer), Pirates Of Confusion (Super detailed Composting), Learn Color Gragding (Color), Creative Video Tips ( great tips Of all Resolve), Davinci Resolve How! (Fusion Code)
can't find Davinci Resolve How!
@@unityindiversity1708 search >UCxDuAAdIGAGnbnOj4dqaOdA in search bar if it doesnt get Deleted by bot 🙂
Alex were also familiar to me.)
My focus of late has been color correction and color grading. By far my biggest weakness. But thanks to all these creators I'm getting a better grasp on not only what to do, but how to do it. All from TH-cam. It's a massive community.
And yes, can't wait for October either!
All amazing channels!! Except that Jay Lippman dude. Something is seriously wrong with him 😂
@@JayLippman I KNOW - right?
@@larzous2407 Agree, he has great insight you typically don't find. He gave a tip about setting up your timeline for Davinci YRGB Color Managed and Davinci Wide Gamut. Then found him again on not only why, but how to override my issues with my titles being all washed out. Both from Creative Video Tips. I find myself rewinding and trying to follow along all the time.
Do you think for a beginner that has never edited that its better to go with DV rather than Adobe?
@@JayLippman Thank you, it was also my thought. But it shouldn't work like this :D :D : D Do you never miss precise positioning?
He only said that because he wants to sell his course
Was about to say, I think I saw that video, and that was his ad transition.
I'm curious why JayAreTV isn't on the lost
Like I said in the beginning of the video, this was just a list of a few people/places you can turn to in order to learn Resolve. There are a lot of us.
You and and Casey are two of my favorite bro ! But thinks for this video!
