    Things I learned: shape/sand pieces before joining them, and be prepared to cut your drawing up to use it as a stencil. Thanks for the education and the video!

    Looks good - I had similar scenery but painted the grout so it looks more natural. I Have since coated it in Exo Terra Ocher Stone Desert landscaping substrate, an excellent product which gives a natural, rocklike surface to foam backgrounds

      im curious too. But i seen allot of people not use a varnish sealant. Think it's to just keep it extra clean lol

    Finally something that i can go off of. I already have an idea. Its alot more complex tho. Imagine a boob with steps, and its flat on the top. then the other boob, the base of it is a hide, and near the nipple is also a hide
    But taller and a little bit more cylindrical but still have that rock look. Or just imagine a shoe thats been stretched to fit a corner from the heel in the corner and the side where the toes would be touch each wall of that corner. but there is like a prosthetic stump in it. Basically that kind of shape. Not literally a shoe with a fake limb or boobs. Im sure your minds are completely twisted, but i cant describe it any other way😂 idk it’ll be my first time making my own hide, and obviously with it being my first, it wont be good. I got 5 geckos that are all sibling, they dont fight each other, i want something where they all can share and they can wach have their own undesignated room

    What size is the enclosure and how high/wide do the ledges need to be. My baby is tiny so I want to make sure I make it large enough for long term useage.

      I have a 36” long by 18” wide by 18” high front open tank. The gecko loves to climb so let’s he’s of all sizes are good. I put some small ones in like an inch. And then there is the large platform with the cave that over 10 inches. You can’t really go wrong. The gecko will climb all over it.

    Layer of grout is for decoration or gecko's safety?

      Grout is to seal the foam. And make it look like rock. I used grout from my local hardware store and I have had no issues with it

      @@SomethingJackMakes is varnish for keeping it clean or for gecko's safety? A lot of ppl put it. Is it necessary?

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@urosmilanovic2878 it is needed if you were putting it in a more wet environment. Like if it was for a crested gecko tank that gets misted daily. The water could wash the grout away. But a lizard in a dry environment varnish isn’t needed. I didn’t put any on mine and it’s still holding up fine

    Thumbs up excellentt job. Sadly most people do not have the tools to make this this.

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. Glad you like it. And it can be done with simpler tools. A simple box cutter will go a long way with that foam.

      Snake Exotics that’s interesting. I’ve never thought about selling them. Maybe could do something through Etsy or something. But I’m sure if you follow along you could build one for your self

    Nice, if you paint the base color darker you can use the dry brush technique with a lighter color so it looks more natural

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dante Pusceddu I was thinking about painting it to look more natural. But didn’t want to go though the trouble of having to seal the paint. I know acrylic paint is non toxic. But probably should still seal it so it doesn’t come off over time. But maybe I will paint it. That’s a good idea.

    • @dantepusceddu8491
      @dantepusceddu8491 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SomethingJackMakes I always mix the acrylic paint with it so you don't have to seal it

      My Menagerie ! Thanks glad you like it. It’s not as hard as it looks. And the materials are pretty cheap. I’d say give it a try. And if you don’t like how it comes out try it again. Every time you make one it will be batter then the last

    • @SomethingJackMakes

      Scott Secrest unfortunately I do not know. What comes to mind is resin. Which isn’t am cheap. But you would only need a small amount so you may be able to find something like a sample kit

      Varathane makes a clear-satin, water based polyurethane spray that is a good sealant after painting :) I’ve seen a bunch of videos of people making hides and using it, saying it’s safe for the geckos/reptiles. You can get a can of it or a spray can for like $10

    My question is how do you clean it?

    • @SomethingJackMakes
      @SomethingJackMakes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      RaeTheGaeTM hey. It’s basically like a Rock now so you just wipe it off. Or use a small brush if it’s bad. But my gecko only poops on one spot in one of her hides so she’s very easy to clean up after
