I like adding gravel and chunky sand in when i do the texture ❤ and then go in with a wire brush to knock the sections off that are too much and then go back in with a smooth coat to dull it down a little bit

Glad I could help! The product I used does dry quick shiny so I would suggest the matt finish

Do you wait for the first coat to fully dry before going over with the second?
I do yes, should take less than a day.

@@norwichreptileshed I've done the 2nd coat at it's pretty much dry but it still feels spongy, with this need a few more costs of will the thicker coat take care of this

Antinox or Corex. It's floor protection sheeting, can find it in homebase 👍
Where’d you find that varnish? I watch loads of these videos, and people use a lot of products I wouldn’t, but if it’s food safe, toy safe, must be worth a go. Well done, looks great!
That was my thinking too! It's water based acrylic which makes it safe also. In the UK we can buy this at Wickes, Toolstation and on rustins website.
@@norwichreptileshed I’ve used pond sealer before which is very glossy initially. I’ll still use that on wet builds, but may well try the rustins for anything else. Cheers!
Love this, where Is best place to source that thick polystyrene boards?
Thanks! I get mine from Wickes but any of the big hardware shops should sell it in the insulation section.

hmmm isnt the color used is some oxide product ? faux rock seem to be out of style , glad to see a 2022 ver , simple and works
I don't think it's out of style personally. USA uses drylok a lot but for the UK we are still using grout or cement. I've covered many other methods for smaller vivariums also.
Rock backgrounds going out of style????? If anything they’re becoming more and more used to give an authentic feel to vivs that usually only have branches, substrate and maybe plants at a push

Thanks! For my rock I use a non toxic tile adhesive, it doesn't mention sanded or not

Thanks! I use either mapei grey flexible or rapid set adhesive. As long the grout/adhesive doesn't have mould inhibitors then you should be fine!
