  • A day in the life of someone living with type 1 diabetes - with a global pandemic thrown into the mix!
I talk through how I tackle my insulin doses around meals, some exercise, blood sugars (of course) and generally how I'm making all the decisions we as people with type 1 diabetes have to make every day to keep ourselves alive and feeling well. It's been FOREVER since I made a vlog - phew!
I hope you're all feeling ok as we live through this weird existence, especially while managing a chronic condition. Sending all the virtual hugs.

I must say I thoroughly enjoy all your "in the life" videos. I feel we live very similar lifestyles in terms of busy schedules and prioritizing nutrition and fitness in our daily life. It is so encouraging how you manage your T1D and are certainly pleasing to watch. Thanks so much and I hope you post more in the future. Your podcast is great, too!

Well, oh I just LOVED coming along with you on your day!!! What a beautiful vlog - complete with those lovely outdoor shots and your gentle, intelligent voice of reason when it comes to all things diabetes and well, EVERYTHING. I just really enjoyed this - and you should know I watched it during a bout of insomnia last night and it really helped chill me out - so extra thanks for that too!!! You are just awesome Jen! Sending you lots of joy and love!!!!! Xxx

Hey lovely! Aw I'm sorry for the insomnia (I'm SO with you btw - what's up with that at the moment?!) but I'm glad it helped in some small way, thank you as always for your generous comment and you know how much you inspire me right back! Big love xx

Such a welcome visit. I thought Boris allowed more journeys in the park now. I know how you feel about the social distancing. The neighbors cat still keeps his distance and regrettably I'm practicing it with you from 2500 miles away. Just have to adapt to the new "normal". Best to you,
    Robert (aka bob_the _diabetic)

Hi Jen thanks for this always a great listen, would it be possible to do a vlog on intermittent fasting? I’d love to hear a bit more about your experience of it, the reasons you do it and the benefits you’ve felt from it? Thanks Cara

Hi Cara! Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it! I'm a bit tentative to talk more about intermittent fasting I'm so aware I'm not a health professional, but I started with a lady called Gin Stephens, she has a very clear to understand book called Delay Don't Deny, and then for more of the science, Jason Fung's The Obesity Code gave me a good understanding. The benefits of autophagy are the main for me if you give that a google, and my productivity is so much better when I'm fasting in the mornings as I run on my body's fuel sources for energy - this is also when my blood sugars are super stable. My skin and eyesight have both improved which sounds like a ridiculous sales spin but I have nothing to sell! A lot of people tout it as a diet which it just isn't for me, so there's a lot of unhelpful stuff out there to wade through but that's where I started. Hope that helps! x

Just now watching this, yes, almost a year late.... Things were a bit weird here in the US with all the political stuff going on, so I slipped behind on some of my favorite channels. I had an alarm free night last night and it was great. My blood sugars were a bit higher than I prefer when sleeping- 120-160 mg/dL (6.7-8.9 mmol/l), as opposed to 100-120 mg/dL (5.6-6.7 mmol/l)- but still within my nighttime Dexcom range. And, my pump (TSlimX2) which is a somewhat closed loop with Dexcom, just ran a slightly higher basal to keep things from going too high.

I know it's difficult and everyone says you'll "get use to it". But it is true. There is much to learn from managing insulin doses to diet and it can be overwhelming, but trust me in a few weeks time you'll see the light in regards to leading a more normal life. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of difficulty.. Best to you and it will get better.

Hi Angela, I'm so sorry you're feeling like this. Please know that it IS something you can manage and you will be able to do everything you want to in life. It might not feel like it at the moment but it does get easier. You don't need to give up on sweets and chips - I eat them regularly. Do you have someone in your household or your diabetes team that you can talk to? Please reach out to them. Sending love and virtual hugs.
