If you think about it, a Sonic Adventure 3 would be a terrible move by Sega. They wouldn't meet the high expectations of those who are nostalgic fans of it.
Not to mention that the Adventure saga reception is extremely divided and it's seem as aged and plawed by many.
Sonic Team has already said they aren't doing Sonic Adventure 3 because it wouldn't meet everyone's expectations and that Sonic is just going in a different direction.

You know what. I liked the direction they were taking with Sonic Colors. The game wasn't just "good" for me, it was fantastic.
Don't get me wrong, I love Sonic Mania. But I don't want Sonic games to become old-school 2D platformers and that's all.
Mania did its job, now releasing another game like it wouldn't excite me so much. I would still play it, but it wouldn't give me the emotions Mania gave me. Because Mania, while being a nostalgic experience, was something new, a modern approach to classic Sonic games. That's why I don't think it can happen twice. It woudn't be interesting to play a Sonic game giving Mania's exact same message.
I still think Sonic can evolve and become something else. The character has so much potential that I'd find unacceptable to see him stick to the classic formula forever.

I reckon I really want this team to do a full new Sonic game with all new levels - rather than continuing to rehash things we're already familiar with. The totally new zones were of really high quality and I'd love to see what they could do if they were, you know, _unleashed_.

06 good design chose in both Gameplay and level design (and partially even story) combined with Forces Polish (aka no bigger Bugs or glitches to speak off) and Booms marketing campaign plus the very well animated and voiced cut-scenes. Now this sound like real game of the year material right here.
Don't worry: Sonic Boom Forces '06 2 won't ruin everything.

I saw that video touting "Defunct" as something sonic team should pay attention to. And I agree. I could see that mixed with Sonic Utopia to make something truly unique and fun. The problem with 3D sonic games is that they end up being basically a generic platformer and they kinda don't understand what makes sonic unique and satisfying in the first place. A lot of it is about earned momentum. If you can hit top speed with the press of a button, it's not fun or earned. In sonic utopia you need to roll down a hill to get speed. Watching speed runs of that demo was truly a joy to behold. With some tweaking they're really onto something there.

Sonic mania plus is technically the sequel to sonic forces and sonic mania, let me explain, at the end of sonic mania, classic sonic enters a portal that was made by the phantom ruby, then classic sonic is transported to the events of sonic forces then all of the events of sonic forces happens and classic sonic is then transported to the encore mode of sonic mania plus, so thats how all of them line up into a series of events
I agree with you dude, one of the heads of SEGA said "we dont wanna do sonic adventure 3 cause we dont wanna do fan service and be original", but with the failure of forces and the amazing reception of mania and plus, i know that they are already making adventure 3

Forces wasn't a failure. Sega said Forces sold well and was a financial success for the company.

I played through Encore Mode without a single game over and only two character deaths. And also 100 %'d it. _Is very proud_ \o/
So we got the perfect recreation of Classic Sonic, now some fans step up and sega hire them to recreate the Dreamcast Sonic and stage designs and we good. With Mania doing it right, that's the Sonic we've not had for the longest. Adventure 3, whatever, just those same mechanics and physics with less glitches and I'm filled with such glee that you'd thing you're seeing sparkles fly off my cheeks.

Russians say that Encore Mode is just a stupid palette repaint, and the DLC should cost only 2$. What do you think about it? I don't agree with them.

The DLC was probably aimed at Mania fans who would be willing to play the whole game again, with a few changes here and there.

Encore Mode made me want a 2D Sonic Heroes follow-up. Just let the player cycle through all the characters at-will, and you're pretty much already there. Probably would have to include another "Power" character like Knuckles to balance it out though. Vector, maybe?
The only bad thing about Encore Mode is the Special Stages. They are absurdly difficult, they don't even get you anything good, and the Warp Rings are hidden way too well. Also, the Pinball Bonus Stage is just kinda boring.

Sega is especially motivated to do Sonic right this time because they're banking on a theatrical movie next year, so they're making SURE they don't screw things up right now. Sonic fans have been waiting a very long time for this return to form. Of course, if the movie bombs... this all evaporates. At the very least, we've got this as a beautiful update and successor to the original games to enjoy regardless of what the future may bring. I'll take that as a win

while 06 had elements of gameplay from the adventure games both heroes and shadow can be sa3 from their stories. Nothing will technically be sa3 unless it essentially has both and its treated like a successor completely. 06 was treated as a reboot of the series.

Adventure 3 already exists as Sonic 06. Every Adventure ingredient is in this game, except it wasn't finished, and was badly executed, but it's an Adventure game.
Am I the only one who thought the encore mode made things easier/less cheap? The big thing that comes to mind was the infamous “I hate you” bridge in chemical plant act 1 over the purple ramp-skip sea of purple...

セスグリーン personally, I love Colors. It’s simple and very fun to play, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Just a fun, lighthearted game. I consider it one of the best Modern games for sure, along with Unleashed. I respect your opinion, though. Just thought I’d throw my two cents in :)
While I don't know if I call it the best Sonic game ever made. But I can say it is one of the best Sonic game we had in quite an while since Generation & it does shows how people at thus development really cares for the fanbase. Unlike Sonic Team.

Phaseolus i think its just a matter of mastering controls! Never had any actual problem with ice cap, and the catch that the level loops itself is something very unique to this level, and its presented in a very intuitive form. :3

Sonic Mania was my first 2D Sonic game and I had beaten it about a dozen times before Mania Plus was even announced, so although I wish they had added more classic stages, I guess this is fine for the 5 dollars it costs.
both versions had a missed opportunity for not including the scrapped sonic 2 hidden palace zone. especially since whitehead included it in the sonic2 hd mobile port

Another good thing about Mania, it completely humiliated Sonic Team (I'm aware they didn't need any help doing that) and it absolutely triggered the edge lords who demand sonic just have guns
They humiliated themselves even more by saying that classic characters like Mighty, Ray, and the Hooligans are never coming back in the Modern or IDW series, even though they have a huge fanbase thanks to their return in Mania and the Archie series. I lost faith in them.

I think it’s time for a new Sonic Team. Similar to how Christan Whitehead and his team know everything about what goes into a 2D Sonic game, we need one but with 3D Sonic. Hire a new team of people that knows what makes a Modern Sonic game amazing whether it be boost or adventure. All we ask for is good music, visuals, characters, quality, gameplay, camera, controls, a lighthearted plot, and a less annoying Sonic to listen to. Because if Shigeru Miyamoto had little to no involvement with Odyssey so he can let a new team flourish and make an amazing game, what’s stopping Sega to change things up?
I wanna note...Forces *did* have new talent. It only had one..."experienced" level designer that only really worked on Lost World. So when they said "from the devs of Colors and Generations" they were kinda lying to you somewhat about it being the old Sonic Team. As far as how many OTHERS Sega lied about that worked on those games...well, we'd have to look them all up, but I'm gonna guess not many. It's like they let new inexperienced devs make the game and threw the old Sonic Team under the bus for it.
Sorry to be a buzzkill, but Mushroom Hill in Mania would be redundant because Press Garden's Act 2 already has elements and mechanics from said zone.

I admit, after watching your insight review of Colors, i sort of gained a new perspective of that entry in the series. The game is a lot less shorter than i remember, the bosses aren't as unique as i recall, and overall quality in dialouges are nothing to write home about. The voices of Tails and Sonic is so much easier for the ear hear - 100%. But it's mostly their voices that prevents me from being annoyed by the corny punchlines Sonic pulls.
But i stand by what i've said for years... Sonic Colors is the best one yet. The voice cast is reduced and changed and better for it, gameplay quality comes forth over story, the transition between 2D and 3D has a clean flow - it just feels right. Boost formula feels more important than ever, meaning that only Wisps grant you the power to boost and that you have to use the boost when it's necessery-- speaking of the Wisps... the new powerUps opens new ways to play a Sonic level (to some degree). Laser and Rocket Wisps can be used to scimp levels, Drill Wisps as a tool for an alternate route, Spike Wisps lets you defy gravity and reach collectables that are in upside down areas, Cube Wisps to get past blue rings, Hover Wisps if you're a ring hoarder or Frenzy Wisps if you're trying to stack up as much points as possible for a chance for that sweet S rank.
Colors has also memberable soundtracks. Tropical Resort is one for the ages. The opening to the game is almost nothing, but once the chorus starts it feels like Colors deserve a long red carpet to reach across all six attractions. Even the hub menu for Starlight Carnival won't go un-noticed with it's twinkly star music instruments, and of course the calming piano orchestra for Planet Wisp that gives a mental representation of what it feels like to run fast by flowers.
The best way to describe Sonic Colors (in as short as i can), is that it is a Sonic game that wants nothing more for you to have, than fun playing a polished Sonic game, be invited to a easy story to follow, with enjoyable colorful gimmicks, and a tone that does not take itself that seriously.
Platforming can feel like its taking up the speed segments's space and some 2D sections can be overly frustrating, but these sections are well executed, meaning they are as delightful as the 3D sections. We all need moments to gasp for air.
I have a major love for Unleashed. But with the many plus sides it delivered, it also brought various negative sides. With Colors however... the negative sides are small flaws that are in minority.
Colors and Generations remains to this day the only perfect 3D Sonic games ( i'm not getting into a argument over Adventure series... ).
But since Generations's driving force is nostalgium, Colors takes the cake because it has the personality/charm of classic Sonic in form of 3D Sonic and a fresh new setting with the theme 'colorful atmosphere'.
That's also why i want a direct sequel to Colors. More unrevealed Wisps, bigger plot involving them, perhaps Tails can be playable character, more themed levels with that distinctiveness intact, platforming segments of course, but fast fast Sonic.

They should make mania 2 like a direct revisit of old and some new levels in it with more characters than just mighty and ray.

I've been watching them videos lately that are like "can you complete sonic without doing x" and I noticed mania was used for alot of the videos. I genuinely assumed it was a classic sonic game that I never heard of. It looks, feels, and works like a classic sonic game

I can't wait for my copy to arrive. I've been wanting a physical copy from the beginning. Plus what we get for the 30 bucks is pretty awesome. Especially the art book. On the topic of the video, I think your right. Innovation was often the bullet shot in Sonic's foot. Take the boost formula for example. Unleashed was bogged down by the werehog, Colors was a Wii exclusive which was the worst idea ever and somehow it's still exclusive to the Wii (though they brought Lost World of all things to pc). And then we have Generations which was brilliant but too short and none of us had enough. That may be why a lot of people had extra high expectations for Sonic Forces.
