    This brought back memories of 50 years ago when I lived and worked near Cook City and owned a property in Silver gate. Many memories of cross country skiing into the Lamar Valley and seeing winter wildlife. I'm 81 now and haven't been back since. I think I would be sad about how much it's changed in that area.

    A WOLF!!!!! How lucky you were to see a wolf in the wild. I think that is definitely a bucket list check off! Loved the baby bison too.

    I also like longer stays at campgrounds. I usually stay for 2 weeks (or more) before packing up and moving on. It's a more relaxing way to enjoy rv living , and as you said, saves money and wear on your vehicles.

    Extending your stays to max allowed makes sense: balancing your movement, maintaining your wellbeing. We do the same thing where we go to a home base and travel outward then back to home base. I live in an inland bay in a very urban area. A coyote walked across the street in front of us and remained very close (

    • @DaveHoffmancowboyhiker
      @DaveHoffmancowboyhiker 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      FYI it just dawned on me! When we were leaving Gardiner to go to visit cook city I think I saw your rig going down the winding road from mammoth to Gardiner! I was trying to explain to my uncle the kind of truck I have and I saw truck just like mine pulling a camper. I said that truck looks just like mine and pointed it out. That was on Thursday. If it was you I'm glad we crossed paths and hope to again someday! Gardiner is so important to me also! My parents met there in the 60's and got married there before my dad was drafted. My brother was born in Livingston. Sorry so long but that whole place is in my DNA! I'm so glad you got to experience it! My son and I saw a wolf Wednesday near hell roaring creek when we hiked in to fish!

    Good call on staying longer in one place. We still have a home base and only travel occasionally but this spring left on Easter and went for 61 days with a 3/4 ton truck with cap and pulling a 17 ft. tear drop with wet bath etc. We probably will never take another trip quite like this one, to many miles (about 11,000) usually moving most days (once in a while staying in one spot for 2 or 3 nights). We are 70 and 72 and it gets tiring after a while with the 2 dogs and all. I can see us taking shorter trips say 2 weeks or so and staying longer in many campgrounds. Maine to Big Bend and Guadalupe catching the eclipse and Nashville on the way then off to NM (visiting a relative), CO (Florissant, Pikes Peak, Ouray, Silverton, Estes Park), Grand Tetons and one night just outside Yellowstone, then off to WA (another relative to visit), back to Glacier and then Lake Louise and Banff before heading back across country to Maine. Travel safe.

I was just headed for Jasper to stay with friends who live and work there last Monday. Didn’t make it as the Parkway and town of Jasper became an inferno. Happy you got there to enjoy it when you did. They evacuated backcountry hikers by helicopter. All are out safely.
