    Long ago on our honeymoon my ex wife and I stayed at an inn at the mouth of Iao valley on maui. We were there for 4 days. It was a very nice place. There was a little stream that passed under the inn. We drove to Hana the day after our wedding. I was hungover and we rented a Volkswagen Beetle. The scenery and the waterfalls were incredible but all the twists and turns on the road to Hana was not good for my hangover. It was a beautiful drive I’ll never forget.

      Thanks for sharing your road to Hana experience! Haha, yeah I can definitely see that being a rough drive with a hangover, but you’re absolutely right - the scenery and many waterfalls are stunning. Such a lovely drive and certainly a must do when in Maui.

    I love Hawaii. My last visit was May 2016. Yes I drove to Hana and there were many waterfalls on the right side of the road. Yeah, the road is pretty narrow.

    • @triptipswithchris
      @triptipswithchris  ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed! I love Hawaii as well. Already can’t wait to go back. Did you visit any other islands of Hawaii besides Maui?
      Exactly - soooo many waterfalls to see. Really impressive.

    Hello! Thanks for this very helpful video. If I go to the Haleakala summit for the sunset, and I buy the ticket can I use it for the park of Seven sacred pools. Thank you! 😃

      Hi Aline! That’s great. I’m glad you found the video very helpful.
      Yes, you can use the ticket but it has to be within 3 days starting on the day of purchase. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions. 😊

    How long is the actual drive time up and back (in the car time)? Thanks!

    • @triptipswithchris
      @triptipswithchris  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, just drive time is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from Paia to Kipahulu Visitor Center (Haleakala National Park). And then same amount of hours to return from Kipahulu to Paia.

    As a Hana resident - well done! You highlighted key areas and educate. Your pronunciations are a little off though.

    If we continue driving past Haleakala National Park, do we turn around at some point or is there a way back when you just continue on ?

    • @triptipswithchris
      @triptipswithchris  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, if you go past Haleakala I would not turn around. That's where the drive gets rough for several miles. Just continue along the Piilani Hwy which will take you to the center of Maui (Kula). From there you can drive to wherever you are staying. Hope this helps. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions.

    • @triptipswithchris
      @triptipswithchris  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jared. Thanks for the feedback! I did go to Twin Falls or do you mean I should have continued my hike there?
      I did everything I could in one day driving the entire Road to Hana and backside of Haleakala. If you have additional days to explore, there’s certainly more to see. It’s such an amazing drive and scenery 😊

    • @jayrad1973
      @jayrad1973 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@triptipswithchris yeah you should have continued just a little farther when you went past that gate and you would have came to the main waterfall I'm surprised how many people do turn around before then. There's actually even another one passed that! but it gets really sketchy.

    • @triptipswithchris

    How dangerous would you say the road is? I really want to do the drive but none of us are used to driving a jeep or on roads like this. Do you think it's generally safe as long as you go during the day and take your time?

    • @triptipswithchris
      @triptipswithchris  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, yeah for the most part it’s pretty safe. Just don’t go further than the Haleakala National Park where the Pipiwai Trail is. If you continue, the road gets really rough. Instead, you will drive back where you came from. You’ll still encounter some narrow areas and it’s a windy road, but the road conditions are good for the most part. And yes, definitely make sure only to drive while it’s daylight and take your time. You’ll have a blast. The scenery is amazing. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions.
