  • Shaw Grigsby, renowned angler and host of "One More Cast", narrates this video highlighting the cooperative work between the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and St. Johns Water Management District to create the framework for a fantastic fishery and wildlife viewing area at Fellsmere. The area is expected to be flooded in 2015 to an average depth of about six feet. (Video and script by Dustin Everitt, FWC). Once opened to the public it is hoped that it will rival the famed Farm-13/Stick Marsh, which is relatively nearby in NE Florida.

Love how Florida does this…..western Pennsylvania has so few lakes to fish. There is plenty of rainfall water, springs and streams as well as many natural hills and valleys but in my life time I’ve only seen 1 small lake project in the 1980’s. On the other hand, they’ve drained down several lakes citing that the damns were too expensive to maintain.

I'm planning a trip up that way to Farm 13. I've been researching it for months now and I'm thinking 2020 the bass should be my size of liking in the new section.

lT WON'T TAKE THAT LONG FOR MONSTER BASS TO BE HERE. ( l LlVE NEARBY THlS FlSHERY & FlSH THE STlCK MARSH/FARM 13 RlGHT NEXT TO lT WEEKLY. ) BEFORE THEY BEGAN THlS NEW FELLSMERE RESERVOlR, THERE WERE ALREADY 20 OLD PlTS FULL OF ADULT BASS ON THE SlTE. BLUEGlLL WERE STOCKED 1st. 1 MlLLlON BASS FRY WERE STOCKED BY EARLY 2015. BlOLOGlSTS HAVE RECORDED THE FASTEST GROWTH RATES EVER RECORDED ANYWHERE FOR BASS AT THE STlCK MARSH, AT 2.5 lbs PER YEAR. NO REASON THE NEW FELLSMERE RESERVOlR WlLL BE ANY DlFFERENT. THEY'VE ALREADY CAPTURED A 7.5 lb BASS THERE lN 2014. CONSlDERlNG THE ADULT NATlVE BASS POPULATlON THERE TO BEGlN WlTH, THlS FlSHERY SHOULD BE CHOCK FULL OF MONSTER TROPHlES WELL lN EXCESS OF 10 lbs NO LATER THAN EARLY 2018. BELlEVE THAT. MANY ARE THERE RlGHT NOW. FACT>>> FLORlDA BASS ONLY LlVE 8 TO 10 YEARS HERE. BY THE YEAR 2020, ALL OF THE ADULT NATlVE BASS THERE TO BEGlN WlTH, WlLL HAVE DlED OF OLD AGE. SURE, 2020 WlLL BE A GREAT YEAR HERE, BUT NO NEED TO WAlT THAT LONG. TRUST ME.

See my other response as well from 2 years ago. ( Sorry for having to use "capslock" in that response, my laptop keyboard was malfunctioning, and capslock was the only way I could type messages. I now have a new laptop. ) "Farm 13" is not the name of this new reservoir. The name of this new fishery is "Fellsmere Reservoir". Farm 13 is actually the southern main pool of "the Stick Marsh", and has always been named as such.

Rumor has it, Jan 2017. Guess they had some issues or some such. I live about 12.5 miles due east of the lake

It is now July 2019, and I am DISGUSTED to say the least. ALL of the money, time, & effort spent to create this fantastic bass fishery, and they STILL don't have boat ramps & parking lot built, and are remaining tight-lipped, NOT giving ANY information about it. We've heard that they are squabbling between the different land owners about providing the land needed to build a parking lot and the ramps. SERIOUSLY? You people use OUR money to build this place, yet you didn't even have the details worked out about placement/land/access for ramps & parking??? Sure, you can launch ONLY from the northwest corner to paddle around in a kayak or canoe to fish there, but even then, they FORBID any access & fishing to those enhanced areas in the southern end of the reservoir. ( Which is about a 5 mile journey anyway, from where you have to put a kayak or canoe in to begin with........making such a long run extremely time-consuming & difficult, even IF you were allowed to paddle all the way down there. It would take AT LEAST 2, if not 3 hours to "paddle" that far down there, and that's only ONE WAY. Double that time for a round trip.) THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN A TRUE EMBARRASSMENT & DISAPPOINTMENT TO US LOCAL BASS FISHERMEN IN THE AREA. The "officials" and the WFC treats us like "it's none of our damned business" when we ask about any progress being made to get those damned ramps & parking built. IF IT WEREN'T FOR US, THE FISHERMEN WHO SPENT THE MONEY VIA FISHING LICENSES & TAX DOLLARS, THIS PLACE WOULD'VE NEVER BEEN DEVELOPED TO START WITH. THE FWC AND OTHER "OFFICIALS" OWE US LOCAL ANGLERS A TRUTHFUL EXPLANATION......INSTEAD OF TREATING US LIKE "USELESS PESTS" WHEN WE ASK WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON. I SAY TO ALL THE "OFFICIALS" PERTAINING TO THIS PROJECT>>>> SHAME ON YOU.

I agree with what you said. I don't understand why the enhanced area is off limits for those who are willing to give it a go in a kayak or canoe. No explanation for that....

@@cjohnson2820 The only reason I suspect, is while they are still in limbo over parking & boat ramps, they simply want to keep those enhanced areas off-limits to keep the fishing pressure away from those quality fish down in those areas.

This video was 2014 and still no ramp today. Florida Fish & Wildlife wasted 1.2 million on the improvements. Government at work and they won't respond to request for information on the ramp.

@@jasonottilige1204 Even with a kayak or canoe ( NO electric motors are allowed either, not even on kayaks & canoes ).......they have the enhanced areas TOTALLY OFF-LIMITS FOR ALL ANGLERS. You're not even allowed to fish those enhanced areas near the southern end of the reservoir from the bank.
