Removing the grills at the top of the PS5 console and leaving huge gaps for the slim model is a HUGE serious concern for the following reason: DUST. A lot of people don't put a dust covers on their console when they turn it off and with the old PS5 model dust starts going into the grills (with the grills holding back most of the dust but dust still gets in) and you MUST take the plates off and clean that PS5 at least once a year (you will be surprised how much dust gets in there) or else the dust will eventually start getting into the inner parts of the console and it's going to cause problems in the future. Without the grills, the dust problem is going to get MUCH, MUCH worse and I imagine a lot of people are going to have problems with their PS5 slim models in the future since most people won't bother to take the plates off to clean it.
Dbrand has some nice skin covers that have fan cutouts for the fan to breathe more efficiently and they even got little dust covers you can take out to clean. It's kinda pricey for plastic shells but I'm tempted to get one
It's smaller, it's lighter, it's quieter, it's cooler. I.e. better in any practical sense, hard to argue with that. And also, without the drive it does look better than older design.
It looks like someone put a cheap refrigerator in front of a fun house mirror and took a picture of its reflection, and then turned that into a game console.
At my works holiday party. My coworker won the PS5 Slim Call of Duty Modern Warfare bundle. Then I won the PS5 Slim Spider-Man 2 Bundle from a different raffle at work. Now I know what everything looks like in side the box and the PS5 without opening yet! Thanks!
That finally answers my question about being able to register the disc drive without being on the latest firmware. No. Great! Terrible to people who want to set a new slim aside and wait for the current firmware to be jailbreakable. Unless in that jailbreak is an option to locally marry the disc drive like on old PS3s
the disc drive only gets paired when the disc drive is plugged in. if you just disconnect the disc drive on first boot, it wont pair the disc drive to the console, as it isnt plugged in.
@@antonio3789not sure why people with the OG ps5 hate on the slim, I just got one as a first time PlayStation owner for $514 after taxes, and I actually don’t see a problem with it, it’s held up pretty well
The slim has a 19 blade fan. The fat has a 17 blade fan. Your last video where you replaced the fan on the Spiderman 2 ps5. It was the wrong fan, meant for the slim.
There's a lot of people going overboard about the whole having to connect to the internet to register the drive thing. It is actually something Sony legally have to do for content copyright reasons. It's not some sneaky thing that a lot of people think it is for some reason. If, let's say, Microsoft released a series X slim also with a removable disc drive you would also have to do the same thing with that when first booting it up.
It is crazy how people are complaining about needing internet access to register the disc drive. Who would not have internet access owning a fricking PS5?
It's just a pain. My wifi is so garbage in the woods I cant stream anything, so when I get a new console, probably this cuz I can, I MIGHT have to get a freakin motel to do it all lol.

I would like to see you swap the disc drives between the slims. I wonder how the disc drive "registration" works. Any way, great video! Looking forwards to Saturdays video. Hopefully some smokin' silicone too
Just so you know I owned the PS4 Slim and it also had overheating issues. It seems the slim versions dont have enough coolness circulation compared to the original console versions.
I don't have a PS5 and I was considering buying one. I'm on the fence of either getting the slim or the OG but the thing is the slim is regular price because the past slim models I've bought for 200 bucks.
This isn’t a slim ps5. Idk why everyone is saying it is. This ps5 is just a revisioned versioned ps5 to replace the old giant ps5. The base model is the same price but the digital is unreasonably $50 more.

The best model is the god of war bundle if you can find it brand new, the fan was smaller but just as strong and there was quite a bit of empty room inside so there is nice airflow.
There's likely a system in place to deauthorize and reauthorize, which is probably why it needs internet to set up. Similar to a 'home' console designation.

Spoiler- Ps5 will brick if you remove hardware during update process, only way to fix it is to reattach the hardware and install the ps5 os from a usb stick. Ps5 is checking for every known hardware component during software update, it cant complete the process if it cant find a hardware component that it knows, like a paired disc drive
I’m glad I got the original with the optical drive. Have to register a disc drive on the internet before you can use it just seems so backwards. Edit: Thanks for explaining it everyone who did.
It's a one time thing likely designed to stop third parties from releasing unauthorized drives. Sucks, but I understand why they do it. The second you make something removable, the vultures will swoop in and try to make their own versions, which will probably break in short order.
Sony is really strict with copyrighted contents. The detachable disc drive is probably the most vulnerable part for modding so that's why the console needs to verify that you use a legit drive.
There's a lot of mad comments about the Slim users in here. In all honesty, the slim is a quiet and warm console but you have to accept that the Og is slightly still better at cooling. I suggest doing your research first and not yapping first.
If this thing was $300 it would be cool. At a price increase and with less included (no vertical stand, digital game with a DISC console) this is crap. It would be fine if it wasn’t completely replacing current models but Sony knows they’re scamming us so they have to replace the model entirely in order for anyone to actually buy this.
@@Matt-dp7ze They are making a profit now. They weren’t the first two years and that’s normal for consoles. It’s also normal to lower the price with a mid-gen redesign, not increase it.

It’s slim enough. I’d say it’s slim where it matters: The length and depth. I have a low profile tv stand and when I pull the standard ps5 a few inches from the wall to allow for better ventilation, the game console is right on the edge of my tv stand. My shelves are also not very wide, so the ps5 takes up so much space that there’s no room on the side to dock controllers. My One X is on the shelf below, and the shelf is the exact same size and there’s plenty of room to dock a couple of Xbox controllers next to it. So yeah, this console is now slim enough for me that I can finally fit a controller dock next to it. I don’t think both look better standing vertical but I don’t have a setup that lets me do that without obstructing some of the view of the tv. So, this ps5 should be perfect for my needs
Dude its the same exact system with just more storage and slightly smaller... so it's obviously slightly better than the original ps5. Ya'll just be hating for no reason lol

Sony finally did some things right! I mean you can easily disassemble the console and clean it, or even replace some components. Wow. Just remember the terrible PS3 Super Slim.
Nothing will happen if you are just update the console firmware and it would be safe to remove the disk drive if there's no game insid obviously don't remove the drive if a physical game copy is suspended the console will say close the software before ejecting
It could mess it up because the first time you use the disk drive you have to be connected to the Internet to register it to your PS5. So if you do it while that's going it could mess it up. 'Slim' (pun intended😁) chance but it can happen.
This has actually been a thing since the PS3. They just never advertised it because there was never a reason to remove the optical drive unless it was nonfunctional, And because bluray was a rather expensive technology The optical drives were built to last, so they didn't need to advertise it.
Considering that you have to update to use the disc drive and it's not even a price change with cheaper stand components and a uglier look I am content with my 2023 PS5 digital edition. I can see that this console refresh will have to go through some updates and changes before it becomes viable like the previous one as well. I hope I am wrong but we shall see if they remake it or refresh it like the PS4 Slim.

Cockroaches as well 😬😬
Dbrand has some nice skin covers that have fan cutouts for the fan to breathe more efficiently and they even got little dust covers you can take out to clean. It's kinda pricey for plastic shells but I'm tempted to get one

That finally answers my question about being able to register the disc drive without being on the latest firmware. No. Great! Terrible to people who want to set a new slim aside and wait for the current firmware to be jailbreakable. Unless in that jailbreak is an option to locally marry the disc drive like on old PS3s
It's how Xbox operates as well. They're basically the same now.
the disc drive only gets paired when the disc drive is plugged in. if you just disconnect the disc drive on first boot, it wont pair the disc drive to the console, as it isnt plugged in.
I don't think Sony is too concerned about the customers who want to jailbreak their consoles. It does suck for console longevity though

The PS5 slim actually looks really cool. People have their opinions on it and I think it looks cool. It will fit perfectly on my gaming entertainment center. I get it next week. I ordered the optical disc drive since the ones with the disc drive already in is sold out so my only option was digital and order the disc drive. I don’t see a problem with that. Yes it’s a bit more but not by much. That being said, I think it looks really cool!

When you have personal problems with a console
you should do a SLIM vs OG PS5 temp test :) , but for new console owners , should they take the OG or SLIM ? feels like slim is easier to tear down compared to its predecessor .
The old models will disappear eventually. The "slim" will be the only one available in the market. Future console owners have no choice but to accept it.

Them tying the disk drive to the console almost for sure means you cannot buy a used drive if yours fails. Which sucks.
There's likely a system in place to deauthorize and reauthorize, which is probably why it needs internet to set up. Similar to a 'home' console designation.
@@RenegadePandaZwell then they shouldn’t have released it because of that they really need to understand that most people aren’t into tech why you think right to repair is getting destroyed

@@RenegadePandaZ they're legally required to do so, not really anything Sony can do about that
That’s woke
Ya know whats backwards? this comment, and clearly havent read the context of why it is
Sony is really strict with copyrighted contents.
Why would Sony sell a console for $200 less if they aren’t even making a profit on the original version at the original price?
@@Matt-dp7ze They are making a profit now. They weren’t the first two years and that’s normal for consoles. It’s also normal to lower the price with a mid-gen redesign, not increase it.
Sony knowing the top panels are going to scratch as soon as anything touches them, so they can sale consumers new panels. Nice one sony make that money
The only benefit I see is not having the eject button right next to the power button and virtually no markings to differentiate the two…

I picked it up today didn’t open mine yet but will soon can’t wait and great video
