    In part 3 of this video series we remove the trunk lid and start investigating how to remove the rear window channel. It appears to have been replaced on this car before.

    Been enjoying your videos! I just pulled the rear window off my light metallic blue 1984 300SD tonight as I know rain leaks from the seal to the trunk. Encountering the same rust like you have. Plan is to find out "why" it rusted in the first place and prevent it. Then will wire brush it and coat it with fiberglass mat and POR15 to build it up. Then go back, sand, fill with fiberglass body filler, sand smooth, primer, paint and clear coat. Plan is to use 3M 08509 glazing compound. I am on the Peach Parts forum under "Theseus".

    Not sure how far you've gotten in this project...but I just wanted to say that I would absolutely remove the trunk lid "arms". There's really no way you can do a decent job with those in the way!

      Yeah I know. Wishful thinking on my part. LOL..... I'm easing myself into it. Thanks Johnathan. Cheers my friend. 😁

    I admire you for taking on this project. Hope I never have to do the same on my ‘87 W124

      The w124 have the same rust problem with the rear window?

    • @Johnathan_Waters
      @Johnathan_Waters 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vintage76vipergreenBeetle No not really. The 124 also has "bonded" windshields (front and back). So they don't ever really leak like these rubber seals do over time...

      @@Johnathan_Waters that’s good to hear. My W124 has always been garaged and never in the rain much. Thanks for the info.

    hi one for the problems i had with my 126 was the rear lights leaking. there two seals for each light, had to open the light up and reseal it.

    Man I can't imagine doing this. Good luck. I am dreading the day I have to repaint my w116 and removing the window moulding that has leaked.

    Ugh I fear this. Like you show in part 1, the top edge looks ok-ish. Without looking on on the edge where the two pieces sandwich together you wouldn't have known what is on the underside of that sill.

      Agreed. It's not all that bad. Just needs some TLC.
