Secret Squirrel Off-Road
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ต.ค. 2011
Follow the evolution of a 2020 Wrangler JLU for off-roading, outdoors, DIY & more. My hard earned cash pays for my Jeep hobby and I would like to pass on some of the bits of knowledge I pick up along the way. SSO is a place I can share solutions to make Jeep life better. Even if you don’t have a Jeep, my content will have an off-road theme that will apply to whatever you drive. I’ll be sharing how-to videos from add-ons to basic maintenance and trail videos. I’m having fun with this and who knows where this will go.

Pinnacle Mountain Road Western NC 4K
Pinnacle Mountain Road - Western North Carolina
Pinnacle Mountain Road hugs the eastern edge of the Dupont State Forest in Western North Carolina in the vicinity of Brevard and Hendersonville. The gravel section is approximately 4 miles long.
Directions-
From Brevard, NC take 276 (aka-Greenville Hwy) to Cedar Mountain and turn into onto Cascade Lake Rd. This is the road to enter DuPont from the south. Take an immediate right after the Fire Station onto Reasonover Dr. After a few paved miles and past the Fawn Lake access this will run into a fork to two gravel roads at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church (white with a red roof). Left is Pinnacle Mountain Road. Right is the Green River Road (nice drive also & an offshoot of the SCAR). Pinnacle Mtn Rd after about 4 miles pops out of the trees and Sky Valley Rd to the left goes into Du Pont. Continuing on Pinnacle Mtn Rd can take you to Hendersonville. Enjoy!

@@redbeastadventures it is. The hunt for nearby places to experience a little more without a weekend roadtrip has been difficult.
@@SecretSquirrelOffroad Clayton GA is nice but around 2 hours away. A few good trails and camping in that area.
@ thanks. I’ll add it to my short list!
Imagine trailering in to drive a county road people live off of, lol
I think trailering in certainly would be a waste.
As a retired forester, I can tell you that the forest service doesn’t want wheeled vehicles on undesignated, unstabilized routes because this can cause substantial damage to the land. This, in turn, requires the use of very limited funds to repair. I like Jeeping as much as the next person, but I try to have the least impact on the roads and the land in general. This includes avoiding driving through mud holes unless it is unavoidable. I noticed several instances where you veered in order to drive through the mud holes on purpose. Every pass through a hole beats it out more, increasing the damage that has to be repaired. If we all exercise a little more “Leave No Trace” mindset, we could help protect the resource and keep the trails open to the public. See you on the trails!
Thanks Squirrel enjoy the content. Took your advice from a previous video and purchased the jump box and tire repair kit.
@@ZeroRemorseOverland You never know when those may come in handy. Thanks for watching!
Hurricane Creek is clear fyi. Go video it before I decide I want to take my Tacoma up it or not
I’m getting antsy also. I know the I-40 entrance is inexcessable. Some folks were going down then back up and if it is not gated off that is what will get it permanently closed. I love HC, but will make sure of the rules especially if I’m going to post it. I want to highlight our trails, but in the interest of keeping them open. Stay safe and have fun. Hope to see you out there!
Thank you for this video. We need to let people know that we still need a lot of help in WNC!!!
Good catch and fix on your electrical issues. Definitely sounds like a good plan to check the tightness of some grounds and main electrical connections occasionally and check the fuse/relay seating in the fuse box. We certainly shake things up out on the trails, so things can loosen over time.
@@redbeastadventures not to mention the reputation of things being loose from the word go. Wanted to show that what seems like a big issue might not be all that complicated. Of course always helps to be confident in the outcome or have your work checked. That’s my disclaimer.
I also just got the same compressor. That case is a great idea. Been looking for something like this. Will pick one up tomorrow. Thank you
im about 2 hours away, maybe ill check it out this weekend :) Thanks man

@@rebelops did you enter from the top and make it a round trip? If so any on-trail traffic? Not many are on that trail right after Helene.
@@SecretSquirrelOffroad i came from pisgah national forest, i think it was max patch rd. It was raining and a lot of fallen trees. Thanks to the people who cut all those trees down and cleaned the trail. Once i got to the 40 the gate was locked, but thanks to the locals they let me through, the 40 was closed.
@ did it seem like some of the grading was washed out? I was wondering if the storm would maybe make it more of a trail less of the road that it has become
@@SecretSquirrelOffroad it wasnt too bad, it still felt fairly easy. i took my 2024 tacoma trailhunter. There were quite few narrow spots, scratched up my truck but i dont care :). let me upload the video from my dash cam, there is no sound :)

There are no words for the devastation. One thing though I saw when you were driving I think almost to the end there was a huge dumpster. How the heck did they get it there?
@@rosejohnson9957 there was better, although also restricted access to that area we were not previously aware of that was cleared by linemen and chainsaw crews. Heavy equipment was able to get in on the other side thankfully.
Good review. I have the Magsafe holder as well. It seems to hold the phone well on the bumpy rock trails especially this past weekend at Coppinger Cover.

@@jamesbakerjr5383 Blessings and Grace are definitely needed. Thank you.
Thank you for helping. I wish I could. I would make it worse so I’m praying. Not a very Godly man but I can do that. I watch in awe the destruction. I’ve watched hundreds of Japanese tsunami videos but those seem so localized. These are something different. You can be driving on clean pavement and all of a sudden there is no road. No infrastructure. I saw the culvert looking structure and realized it was an old bridge with 8 or10’ of scower. You could tell towards the end that there were many lives lost. When you see the Sheriffs K-9 unit you can bet its recovery. ❤️🩹 I’ve watched Mark Honeycutt video of the Garren slide and Chimney Rock vids how the boulders just made the road disappear. Cars crumpled into balls of steel. Interstate bridge abutments washed out and the imprints of foundations. The fact that this is such a broad area brings home how long of a reconstruction this will be. Your vehicle, time, supplies and love have to mean the world to people who are shell shocked. They may not appreciate it now but will reflect in the future of the kindness that you’re showing. Keep up the good work and thank you. From an old fat guy in Omaha.
@@michaelgollehon6656 thank you. This video has made me a bit of an aid coordinator. People are always asking how to help. It changes daily. Oh, you say you don’t need Govt?
