Watching this 4 days late. I have never been a big goals person and still don't know if I will call them goals vs just smaller intentions. I have to drink more water I know....I have fallen off of that too ...and I want to cook more this next year and include more experimentation in there too. As far as finances go with " retail therapy ". I don't buy something I wouldn't deem essential if I can get it somewhere for free (library) or cheaper (on sale, consignment or thrift store first ) and I have to have been wanting that item for 2 or more months.

For finances I'd set a different spending challenge each moth. Like February could be no take out or take out only once a week since you'll ge packing you'll want to be lazy & order out so a goal might be helpful. Then in May or June when it's nicer out & you're more tempted to go out for coffee you could make a coffee at home only goal. Different small challenges to keep you mindful without long term feeling like you're missing out. I'd also suggest keeping track of how many candles you finish & having that be your limit when the Bath & Body Works sale happens! Other things could be you have to save 1/2 of what you spend on Amazon for a month, $200 to Amazon $100 to savings. The 52 week savings challenge is also a way to save without it feeling overwhelming & can technically be modified however you see fit based on your income. Maybe every time you call you mom put $5 in savings. Talk with Sam about setting spending limits on gifts or not doing gifts but putting extra towards the wedding or honeymoon on Valentines day birthdays & your anniversary. Pick a dollar about to save from your day job every time a new person joins your patreon. The possibilities are endless! I follow The Budget Mom & while I never paid for her savings challenges I have seen a bunch of them & figured out a few of my own along the way as I tried to have some semblance of a social life without burying myself in debt. I'm not debt free yet but I have much less than most people I know from planning & stretching those pennies!

I also found any kind of strict diet does not work for me. Like eliminating all sugar or whole 30. What I am doing is focusing on foods that are healthy and within the Mediterranean food groups which has shown to be really the best in the world.
I also I have found that I just can’t have some things in the house because I will eat them and eat more of them than I should. Like unsalted chips (I am salt sensitive). Certainly things like cheese are eliminated and I only have a half a glass of wine every week or two. I do love dove dark chocolate promises and I can enjoy four or five a day without wanting more.
Anyway, this is what has worked for me and has made me very happy and not stressed. I’m sure you will find what works for you because you do pay attention and focus on self care.

What I have definitely found about weight loss is it has nothing to do with exercise it has everything to do with what you eat. Now I do walk briskly a couple of miles every single day - about 100 miles a month - and this has resulted in no weight loss but I’m down a pant size. Exercise is extremely important for cardiovascular and mental health and a zillion other reasons, but if you wanna lose weight it’s what you put in your mouth :) Watching what I eat resulted in me losing 15 pounds last year and I think I’ve lost three more since January 1. But starting a daily walking habit drop my pant size.
I would challenge you to consider picking a number. After giving myself a break this year I do have a 2021 intention (I don’t do goals, I do intentions and actions based on those) is to get in the normal weight range for my height. That means I need to lose 11 pounds. Very doable. I weigh myself every day and write it down, and that makes a huge difference because I can catch minor fluctuations. that said, I do not fixate on the number but on the changes.
Happy holidays to you and I trust 2021 will be wonderful for you!

Picking out furniture together or things for the apartment together would be great including him. The spending just making it a plan that you are only spending money on things you need not want and having a set budget for how much you spend money such be and then not going over it unless it something you need and not want. And after you done with whatever your time is up then you treat yourself to something you wanted as a treat!!! Weight los is something I don’t believe in diets I believe in lifestyle changes cause once u loss what u want or don’t u get disappointed and then you stop. I believe in changing you life for the better to life the healthiest you can be. If you can do anything to change it why not, that is a way to look at it so u can be happy with you size etc, it’s not the number on the scale only it’s what h see in the mirror or when u go shopping r u ok with it if u r then stay the way u r but if u r not then smaller portions no diets, walk, water no soda, and snacks (if u do) fruits and vegetables and no eating after 7pm the latest 8pm so you can have enough time to digest! Eat breakfast please or make a shake protein. I have had many clients lose weight without being on these crazy diets but a lifestyle change cause I don’t have them stop eating anything but they have to change the calories and portions!!! Good Luck beloved!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I have a space goal and a thoughtful low spend goal too. The low spend goal is informed by my space goal because I’ve reached saturation with clothes, pens, and notebooks. So those are the 3 things I'm going to stop buying. I’m a public librarian so I rarely buy books to keep at home!

Love your goals! This is making me reflect because I did generalize my goals. My word of the year is Invest, so I things like Invest in My Marriage, Invest in my Health etc. I think I am happy with that but really see the need to be very tangible in my action items. I did do eight goals and I also am making a change this year that each goal needs to be reflected in at least one item on my tending list each month.
Re: finances - I did a no spend for a month at the beginning of last year. Less for financial reasons than for breaking the retail therapy habit. It was very eye opening and did help me be more intentional w purchases for some time after that. I think I would like to do that twice this year for that pause and reflect reminder.
I also have lose weight as a major this year. I got the exercise piece in place during Q4 but need to add the diet piece.
Looking forward to following along with you as always! Merry Christmas!

  • @LivingTheJournalLife

for finances: If you are trying to be more intentional about spending you could have a cooling off period for buying things. When normally you would check out, write the purchase down and go back to it in three days. If you still need it then, it's probably not a thing you will regret.

For finances I HIGHLY recommend the classes from YNAB (You Need a Budget). I know you already have a budgeting system you like but their four rules of budgeting are applicable for any system and made me be 100% in control of aligning my money with my priorities. Jesse Meachem, the YNAB guy also has a book that lays out the rules.
For your apartment I really like Dana K. White (A Slob Comes Clean) for decluttering and Clean Mama for a cleaning routine. I know lots of people love the Flylady, but I found her stuff a bit all over the place. Clean Mama has very clear daily, weekly, and monthly tasks for cleaning laid out in a free calendar every month on her blog.
Like I said in a previous comment Noom has been great for my whole mindset in losing weight. Good luck on all your goals!

Great video, thank you for sharing. I have a suggestion for the physical space goal. How about selecting top 1 (or max. 3) things you dont have in your current apartment and would definetly want to have in your new place (now or a year into it)? This question might help you narrow down what is really important for both of you. Wishing you all the best with your 2021 goals.

It was so helpful to me to hear that I don't have to have all of my goals 100% mapped out! I feel like if I've left things unplanned for each quarter I'm not doing it right! Also, related to weight loss, I started out 2020 going to the gym 2-3x per week, then COVID hit. Its been a struggle for me to work out at home, not to mention that I've been self soothing during lockdown. I got a new iwatch for xmas and I'm getting the Apple Fitness+ membership; I think that will be helpful until the gym reopens. Also I've had good success with intermittent fasting (I'm a diabetic so that's been super helpful keeping my blood glucose numbers stable). Thank you for the video!

My suggestion for your financial goal is to make yourself a set of questions for each unnecessary purchase and if you still want to go through with it you have to put a percentage of that purchase in savings.

  • @productivitypalace6003

Thanks for sharing with us!! I need to get cracking on my 2021 POWERSHEETS (haven’t even started yet 🤦🏼‍♀️). For your finance goal, my recommendations are: reading a book or following a new to you financial expert to help you stay mindful about the topic. I personally follow Ramit Sethi and think his book “I Will Teach You to Be Rich” is a must read, he also has a really good Instagram presence. And you’ve likely heard of The Financial Diet and Tori from my first 100k, but I’ll recommend them too especially since they’re women voices in this field. Other options are making small changes or upgrades to your current personal finance system. Like are you finances automated? Could you afford put more into your 401k or Roth IRA? Have you asked for credit limit increases (which help your credit score as long as you don’t spend more)? Etc etc :)

    • @productivitypalace6003
      @productivitypalace6003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Or, if you don’t do these already, you could do quarterly or monthly spending evaluations-so not just tracking but seriously thinking about each purchase and if it brought long term joy or use to your life?

I struggled with the goalnumber (weightloss) as well... I ended up writing getting to a healthy BMI. In my case this is not even very reliable since I am too short, but measuring it, It means losing 11 kilo. In 12 months, this should be doable. I hope...

Great video! Did you consider going back to weight watchers? I find the digital version alone very helpful, i dont need anything more. And i can even lose weight when i only watch/track 2 out of 3 daily meals because the overall calories will be nevertheless lower even if you go overboard with the points, which is great because it is not too restrictive but you work towards your goals. Portion control/calorie restriction is the only thing that impacted my weight, not working out. Working out even lead to increased hunger and eating more. I now go for short 7 min workouts by lucy wyndham read on youtube which are effective but short, so i do not feel that enormous hunger like avec long intense workouts. In addition i stick to the workouts because they are so short and i can just add them very quickly at every moment😀 lots of success with your goals!

If you’re willing to try something extreme, check out Bright Line Eating. I gave a giant sweet tooth and if I’m eating sugar I eat a lot of it - major addiction. Now I eat zero added sugar, also no artificial sweetener, and no flour. It’s part of Bright Line Eating. I have struggled with my weight my entire life (I’m 63) and finally had bariatric surgery in 2017 (I lost 80 lbs). After a couple of years my weight started to creep up a little (I gained 15 lbs) and I was freaking out. Any way, long story to say that BLE has made my body the healthiest it’s ever been. All my lifelong GI issues are gone, I’ve lost 25 pounds since May 5, still losing 1/2-1 lb a month. Love your channel!
