Callas is simply on another level than other human beings. She brings new insights into her characters and plumbs the depths of the most difficult music. Fernandi's bright tenor is a joy. A full rich pleasing sound, superior to di Stefano and some of the other 'tenorito's of the period. Serafin proves he can conduct Puccini as well as Verdi, Bellini, Rossini and Donizetti.
I still can't believe that this premiered only 23 years before I was born. Just one year before Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs and Charles Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic.
I agree with you, her phrasing is extraordinary. I would love to be able to hear a recording of her singing it in the 1940's, when her voice was still in perfect condition.
There´s a recording on Y.T. admittedly in poor sound, of Maria singing ``Giudici ad Anna´´ (Anna Bolena) from La Scala in 1957. Possibly the greatest performance of her entire career.
This is the first time I have ever heard Eugenio Fernandi sing. Voice sounds strong, not the most pleasing voice I have ever heard. When they recorded this Turandot, they would have done just as well with Di Stefano.
I like his voice ! What information is available about him ? I respect your putting de Stefano or del Monaco ahead of him but he is quite good, whomever he is. Not a familiar name to me.
@@gregorypalmer5403 Fernandi sang briefly at Met during the late 50's into early 60's - did not make it big in NY as there was a lot of stiff of competition and a massive list of several celebrated tenors.

Magnifica, strepitosa, Unica, Divina...
Simplemente maravilloso.!!

Quanto ti amo Maria, quanto ti amo 💘🚀

Ghena Dimitrova
Wonderful - but not Maria Callas
who then ??????
Harold Chipman totally Maria Callas!
