@tcbsince73 cheers Steve, funnily enough, Hours was the only album I didn't think all that much of, it seemed a bit too ordinary coming from someone who was anything but. That said, though, Thursday's Child was a beautiful track. Yes, I've seen and enjoyed both of those videos 😊
I love them ⚡️My brother’s birthday is today too and I always say to him 'you were born same day as geniuses' Indeed they were connected one way or another. I knew what Bowie had said about Elvis and I always thought he was one of the nicest Elvis fan. And he then proved it in those occasions you've mentioned. In other circumstances of life, I'm sure they would have had really interesting conversations would they had the opportunity to sit together and talk about their love... Music. Happy 90th Birthday my boy my boy Happy 78th Birthday duke Thanks Sean
Never been the biggest Bowie fan but really do appreciate he's creativity and imagination. Really enjoyed that video and appreciate your hard work putting it together. Luv the show.
Good video Sean! My first bowie album was Young Americans in 75. I always liked him. I had heard about Golden years story, wish Elvis would have recorded that. A nice comparison you did. I enjoyed it. Happy birthday to both great artists. 🎉
Thanks Juan, glad you enjoyed it. I think Bowie's vocals on the YA album are awesome. Favourites for me from that have to be Right and Win and from the same sessions John I'm Only Dancing (Again)
I will tell you what ....that was a great watch Sean !! Incredible parallels with Elvis and Bowie......! I eventually got into Bowie late in life to be honest ....Let's Dance is one of my favourite 80s albums....bought a reiuse a couple of years ago ...takes me straight back to 83 🙄! I saw Bowie at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2004 🎶 He was brilliant on Extras tv show ....funny 😀! Great research for this show 👏 Might keep watching 🎙🎶🥂
Thanks Paul, I'm really chuffed to hear from so many people that like Bowie also. Bowie at Milton Keynes Bowl in July 83 was the first large scale concert I attended. Blew my mind! Glad to hear you might continue watching 😉
@sincerelyelvispresley 😃 Bowie was a very smart intelligent guy !! Never a real fan of the Ziggy stuff ....but his later releases were better for me ! Love Young American etc .... I've been to pretty much to every IOW festival since 2004 ! I have tickets for this year's festival....but carnt make it now 😕😃! Lol Cheers Sean 🎙🎶🥂
@sincerelyelvispresley Oh Ya ... We always buy early bird tickets 🎟! A lot cheaper ....we are back living on the Island now .... But the Saturday of the festival we are going on a weeks cruise 🛳 for my Dad's 80th birthday... Bit pissed off as it's a great line up this year 😃🎙! It's always a great line up to be fair ! Seen everyone there over the years ...Great festival memories 😀 But ....its not every day your Dad turns 80 ... Cheers 🎙🎶🥂
76 would certainly take a big leap of imagination Paul, as Bowie had been holed up in the Hollywood hills, existing on a diet of cocaine, milk and red and green peppers, his walls lined with silver foil, convinced he was being hunted by psychic vampires. From there, he would decamp to Berlin with Iggy Pop to get himself straightened out. 77 would have been more conceivable though, as by then he was in better shape and able to take on production duties for no less than 2 albums for Iggy. He would certainly have given Elvis a unique sound, unlike anything that had gone before. I'm not sure whether they'd have actually got along, but they both had a good sense of humour and laughed a lot, so possibly
Hi Sean, Thank you for this deep dive into Elvis and Bowie's musical career I really learnt quite a bit from watching this about David Bowie. I just wanted to add that from what I've read in the past Elvis was never going to tour the UK had he lived in 1978 this was just another rumour put out by Col Parker when approached by a reporter in America. Someone had asked Wembley Stadium to comment about an Elvis concert to be staged there soon and a spokesman basically said " That's the first I've heard of that, we are booked fully for the next three years with other acts so Elvis would have to wait his turn". I'm thinking that with Elvis' health concerns, in 1977 its highly unlikely that any touring would have ever taken place outside America.
Thanks Dinshaw, glad you enjoyed it. Yes there are definitely some conflicting reports regarding a potential overseas tour in 78. The accounts I've heard came from Memphis Mafia members who claimed to have been involved in advance planning, but like many aspects of Elvis's life, we'll probably never get to the real truth
@@sincerelyelvispresley Hi Sean, I can understand Elvis being a very private individual but he never addressed any stories that the press put out there good ones and one's that seemed to take a dig at him. Maybe Elvis felt he didn't have the time to address everything and people will draw their own conclusions. We can always discuss the what if's and the maybe's but that takes us nowhere. Saying that I wish Elvis had recoded more TV Specials from 1968 onwards.
Happy birthday to the both of them !! Dates can be a strange thing for instance Elvis’s last concert, the day Colonel Tom Parker was born and the day Vernon Presley died all were on June 26th !! Other significant dates include Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul who died on August 16th and the same day is Madonna’s birthday
Great 🎂 tribute vid! You put some effort in. 👍💯 As you know, I don't know you. That being said I don't know anyone who has such an extensive library of Elvis books. Holy cow! On a scale of 1-10 what would you give the FTD book Elvis at MSG? That baby is on my list, it's going 2B 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 Anyways , Happy Birthday Elvis and David! 🔥🎵🎶🎉🎊🎈
Very informative video, Sean. I only got into Bowie a little in mid to latter 80s, when he came back into vogue during my high school years, with sings like “China Girl” and “Modern Love.” Happy birthday to both! TCB! ⚡️
Thanks Curt, I was foolishly a bit sniffy at the time, because he was suddenly mainstream and that wasn't how I saw him. But now I've grown up (a bit!) there's no denying that tracks like Let's Dance are stone-cold classics
Thanks Sean for this video on Elvis and David. Happy Birthday Elvis and David, I am sure they will be holding a huge celebration in the heavenly realms and the music will be amazing xxx.
Awesome birthday video mate . Love the bit on Lisa and Bowie i had forgotten about their connection. I heard bowie in an interview talking about Vince Taylor and his link to starman. How he toured with him vince was an Elvis nut apparently . Just thought i would throw that in . Enjoyed this heaps . Love Elvis and Bowie cheers
Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I believe Vince Taylor was one of the inspirations behind Ziggy Stardust and not just an Elvis nut but a bit of a nut in general by all accounts. For me, Taylor's Brand New Cadillac is one of the greatest rock 'n roll records of all time, and The Clash clearly thought so too!
i think january 8 should become an international holiday. ELVIS BOWIE DAY! we celebrate the king. we celebrate bowie. we also celebrate other icons such as dame shirley bassey, graham chapman of monty python, and dr. stephen hawking.
I don’t know a lot about Bowie, but I am always saying that Elvis should have gotten rid of Parker in 69. Elvis needed a manager who was interested in his growth as an artist. He was far too segregated from other artists. Imaging him jamming along with Cash, Jerry Lee, Perkins, anyone really. Never knew that Bowie was an Elvis fan. I know that Elton John, Dylan, and Springsteen are. I love that Bowie chose to cover the ‘not so obvious’ songs of Elvis. The lesser knowns are always my favourites. I’ll try an track down Bowie’s tributes. Did Bowie sing ‘One Night With You’ or the original ‘One Night Of Sin’🤭
I completely agree that Parker had outlived any purpose he had by the end of the 60s, some would argue for the beginning of the 60s. Looking forward to seeing what Guralnick's new book on the relationship has to say later this year. Bowie's live cover was the standard One Night, but that was a bit of a throwaway ad-hoc extra really, I Feel So Bad felt more rehearsed (at short notice apparently) and complete
@ ….the sooner the better with Parker… I just picked 69 because that’s when I thought Elvis might have actually realised that he had the ability to choose his own material etc. If only he could have found someone just to deal with the business side (because that didn’t seem to be El’s thing). Someone said that Parker’s abilities were that of a promoter. I think that’s all he should have even been. Oh, what could have been hey….💔 The thing that always floored me is that Elvis never left the states (other than for the Army). He must have felt like a caged lion.

@evileyes4070 thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I hadn't realised that about Stephen, but do know that Shirley Bassey has the same birthday too!

Hi Sean...good morning 🌄 Happy Birthday to my dear Elvis and Happy Birthday also to David Bowie .😊
@elvis78ale Good morning! hope you have a great day!
Great video! I like Bowie, especially the early albums but also really liked the Hours album. I did similar videos on Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.

Imagine what it would have been like if Bowie had produced for Elvis in 76/77
76 would certainly take a big leap of imagination Paul, as Bowie had been holed up in the Hollywood hills, existing on a diet of cocaine, milk and red and green peppers, his walls lined with silver foil, convinced he was being hunted by psychic vampires. Great video mate ,they keep getting better and better . I didn't realize there were so many things in common between the two . Both great artists
Thanks Paul, very much appreciated ♥️
That was really well put together, Sean. I'm a big Bowie fan too so that was really interesting. Thanks.
