Thank you Matthew and Steve! Such a necessary lesson. When I was much younger I fasted Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on only three slices of thin whole grain bread with 8 glasses of water in those days. I found that I could pray more, suffer more, and make more reparation for our Lord! I’m no longer at an age or good health to fast in that manner anymore. Only my husband and children knew that I did that. It is important to dress well and attend ti your duties of your state in life. Fasting and abstinence is good and private in order to be efficacious. Now I can only fast in the morning with one bread, cup of tea, and a few glasses of water. No one knows that I do so. There are many other ways to offer up our suffering and good works to our Lord in reparation, for the conversion of sinners, and for the poor souls in Purgatory. Nowadays piety and sacrifice are frowned upon and one is looked upon as a “fanatic” or extremely “rigid”! That can’t make us waiver, though! Modernity has spoiled the Church! Ave Maria!
I stopped eating meat every Wednesday and every Friday all year long. So simple and a small penance to offer that it almost seems like nothing much at all. Additionally I believe it has increased my prayer life and my spiritual awareness.
My boyfriend and I have been doing the same thing since last Lent... The great thing about it is that it's such a little almost unnoticeable fast that it makes it harder to turn into pride! It's like who I do this tiny fast every week that's not even that hard and I'm so bad at it and it's really not glorious lol... But it does teach us self-control while our world preaches the opposite... For new converts like us those are valuable baby steps
