    I absolutely love smallbores. I once had a .32 Crockett type. I sold it because it wasn't a flintlock. Wish I hadn't done that.
    I'd have been better off just putting a flint lock on it.
    Nice rifle you got there.

      I put a 209 conversion kit on my.32 ( haven't tried it yet ) . I need a
      bore brush and patch jag ( need a ramrod for them too , the ramrod that came with the gun
      isn't drilled out to accept them ) . Any idea where I can get them ?

    I have been shooting BP sence the 70s and someone back then told me how to lube my patches beforehand. I have carried a tin with my patches ready to go every sense. Can shoot all day and maybe not have to clean the bore till I go home.

      Thanks Roy for the Bday wishes.
      I have another video i have to put together hopefully tonight.
      I love the traditional guns finding a successful combo to make everything go well is half the fun and half the frustration.
      I hear you on the audio. Its just like black powder guns , when i think i have it right the wind comes up and starts screwing with me lol. I attempted to get the audio as loud as i could post production , i edit in imovie and put all volume at 400% i believe the problem is that on the sony i have ( amazing built in mics for recording music or other types of movie work, super sensitive) the volume was down on the mic itself due to the wind noise, the down range camera was a hero 6 and it recorded all the audio of the uprange lol. When trying to edit this down on the computer my speakers allow it to be loud enough but i tried to play it on my phone and it is quiet.
      I need to get an external mic or figure out how to get better volume without the wind noise.
      I am going to see if i can watch some audio help videos to get a more consistent sound.
      Thanks for watching and the wishes.

    I've ordered me one too in flintlock from Deer Creek. I ordered the lubes from Amazon last week but the bottle says "black powder gun bore cleaner " ?
    It says it is highly flammable and it is white liquid similar to ballistol/water mix.
    The directions on Amazon says it is for patch lubes as well but the bottle mentions nothing to that affect?
    Did they mess my order up you think?

    • @redeagletrapping
      @redeagletrapping  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool on the flinter, I want to get one but funds are tight at the moment so fun stuff has too wait. If it is the hoppes lube says bore and lube you are good to go, if whatever you ordered is not hoppes but in description says lube. Fire away, I presoak a bunch in a container pill containers work best to prevent drying out. The nice thing about hoppes or any lude/solvent is it does not interfere with powder so you should be good to go. The hoppes is a bit whitish

    Can you find some 36 caliber conical bullets I'm just curious because that would be an excellent little squirrel gun and if you're living out on a farm and you've got a varmint that's tearing up everything that is the perfect gun for environments and it's the same caliber that wild Bill Hickok used and a cap and ball revolver taking care of Bill Tutt but I'll tell you this that is a sweet little rifle

Thank you very much

    • @redeagletrapping
      @redeagletrapping  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jamesvasquez6280 cap size on Italians is usually number 11 , rws 1075 work as well. Any number 11 should work , Italian nipples are metric and if you can't find the proper size you can switch out nipples easily to a different one just order the metric thread pattern and your good to go

    That lube is great for the range. You can literally shoot all day without ever having to clean. Not great for hunting because it is a wet lube. Another great range lube us Mr Flintlock. You can shoot all day with that without cleaning as well but it lacks the rust preventative that the Hoppes has.

    • @redeagletrapping
      @redeagletrapping  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried lots , and I find the hopes work just fine up here minus 20-30 is usually our worst but during hunting season we usually don't get below zero so I have not really had an issue. But appreciate the tip of Mr flintlock

    That is some awesome offhand shooting! I clean with the water method too. What do you oil with afterwards for long-term storage? I tried 100% ballistol but it doesn't do well and I tried bore butter. The bore butter does a good job, but I have to wipe it out really well before shooting. But we have to wipe out anything we use. But, I will be buying some of the Hope's bp lube to try on my patches and storage. Thanks for the tip!

    • @redeagletrapping
      @redeagletrapping  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry for the late response comments dont always appear in notifications sorry. Hot water then let dry i run a patch or 2 of hoppes black powder solvent and bore lube down it for longer storage I will do bore butter coated patch , then just swab with one or 2 clean dry patches before shooting for rust prevention. I use a high quality machine oil on nipples and frizzens as well as other parts. During rainy or snowy conditions I use rig plus p or rig grease lightly on the metal. Another old timer showed me how to use plain high quality cars wax on all external surfaces to prevent rust, works well too.
      I find the hoppes works great for patch lube and cleaning but for rust prevention some bore butter for long term. If short term just clean and use the hoppes and a little machine oil or even wd 40 works well.
      Hope that helps.

    I read ( or heard on yt or something ) that D. Boon lived to a ripe old age shooting a .41 cal. m/l rifle He named Betsy . So , I guess You don't have to shoot a large cal. rifle . I Personally would love to have a .32 cal. rifle ( shoot a .31 patched ball ?) !

    • @redeagletrapping
      @redeagletrapping  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I heard that alot of the old guns were small calibers , makes sense with lead availability. Lg bore existed and in the book 44 years the life of the hunter I believe he describes his as roughly a 69 he never comes out and says what it is just an ounce or something of lead ball. A 32 would be great I always wanted 36 large enough to kill medium game small enough for sm game and a still manageable ramrod.
      A 32 is on my list though. Thanks
