    I've been reading "Light from Uncommon Stars" by Ryka Aoki and this piece is brought up quite a bit in it, so I had to find it and listen.

    Thanks for this. I love Bartok and regard him as a genius, but I must say I find this piece rather difficult.

    Thx so much for synchronizing this score with the rendition by Yehudi Menuhin, GR8 work you have done! 5* :)
    ...and it's so helpful for studying this masterpiece! I still admire the effort by Yehudi who did interprete the incredibly complex score for the first time.

    In one of Menuhin's recorded performances, he changes the score in the first movement (this is not the famous change he made which so irritated Kolisch). I asked about it, and he remarked, "You have a good ear." I still don't know of anyone else who has noticed it. He said he did it for thematic reasons.

    Thanks so much! I've never gotten to see the score for this one despite it being one of my favourite works for solo violin.

      His rendition of the fourth movement was by far one of my favorites, but I can’t find the video; if anyone can find it, please let me know

    I thought playing 3 notes together made a choice, but Bartok proved me wrong.

    A near 30-minute sonata? I can't believe Violinmasterclass put this on the same level with Ysaye... this looks way harder.

    For me it seems like only Menuhin can really make art out of this sonata by Bartok

      @@marzannaclassics3347 Gitlis’s is not quite the same, it’s nice, but not like Menuhin‘s.
      Menuhin‘s is on another level speaking of musicality and understanding

      I personnally think that the best version is by Laurent Korcia

    • @slateflash
      @slateflash 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The best version is by Barnabas Kelemen hands down. He follows all the performance and tempo directions (no awkward pausing to take breathers) and even plays the microtones as they were originally written

      @@sneddypie The later part gets harder. Especially when you have to do many crossings while keeping the 5ths in tune, meaning that your fingers have to flatten slightly in an awkward manner
