  • Morning start up at 6 degrees C. for the 4 cylinder 23C diesel engine from a Ferguson FE35 Golden Grey.
This tractor belongs to a customer in the Netherlands who has restored his engine with help from our Engine Rebuild Video guide. Just a few seconds of heat and the engine starts almost immediatley. Who said these engines were bad starters!
    Please visit us at...

...for the Standard 23C Diesel Engine Rebuild video. The video takes you through the full rebuild process.
The way the tractor now starts is testament to the quality of the rebuild that the owner has done. In fact, the whole restoration of the tractor is of extremely high quality.

Never have i seen a video of how one should start a Perkins diesel. Ie how you pre heat , putting the lift down etc.

Nice job. I see you have the 4 heater plug head or is that a later conversion ?
The engine stand is a great idea for testing before bolting everything back together ( I may have to make something similar)

Hello, can you send me the data from the motor mount?
A small drawing of the frame under the engine?
    Would be great of you.

No, not a Perkins. These tractors were originally fitted with a 4 cylinder diesel manufactured by the Standard Motor Company. The engine model is called a 23C. These engines were notoriously difficult to start, and they gave the tractors a bad reputation. They then switched over to using the indirect injection Perkins 3A.152 engine, and then later used the direct injection version of this engine in the MF135.

Nice job, I have the same engine in my 1957 MF35. Not to nit pick, but you describe using the term "throttle" I believe that term is for gas engines where the air intake is throttled to control engine speed. In this case you are "giving it a bit more fuel" by increasing the stroke on the injector pump. Other than that, nice job
