Marine sets US national record freediving

- Lieutenant Colonel Laurence Paik of the United States Marine Corp has set a national freediving record on April 20th 2024 with a constant weight no fins dive to 73 meters. The dive took place during the Xibalba Freediving competition in Cenote Util in Mexico. In this discipline, the athlete swims down a predetermined length of rope and back up without the use of fins. Laurence uses a modified breast stroke to propel himself. The attempt was judged and validated by 3 AIDA judges.

it's SUCH a great comp! And it's got the best opening ceremony: a Mayan shaman blesses all the athletes and requests permission for us to enter the cenote. Beautiful.

@@ookiemand weet ik nog niet - Abdel, de organisator, heeft me wel gevraagd, maar ben geen fan van het huidige bestuur van Aida en de richting waarin ze de sport manoeuvreren. Aan de andere kant, ben nog nooit in Corsica geweest en ik vermoed dat er een paar vrienden zullen zijn. Plus Abdel is zo'n fijne kerel.

It’s impressive for sure, but Ekaterina Sadurska from Ukraine 🇺🇦 established 76 meters world record in same discipline a year ago, I assumed that freediving is worldwide discipline, why Americans accounting their own records book, sometimes it feels that USA people are living in a bubble, just to feel that they are the best in the world with no regard to the rest of the world, weird… Can someone please explain?
She did 77! And that’s a world record. William Trubridge holds the men’s world record with 102. Then there are also continental records, and national records. Every nation has their own national record holders, not just Americans.
