Never ceases to amaze me when Chinese fans and netizens take on positions of judgemental importance. Telling stars when and how to work, or canceling for things they do not like.
I will say, that having seen some videos of him at events over the past few months he seems extremely checked out. Like his social battery was at zero and there was no one around to spark an interest in staying engaged in the moment at multiple different events. I'm not talking about drama associated events but more like industry and brand parties. I liked one video of him at a press conference and my algorithm did it's thing. The only thing I'm worried about is him getting enough rest and getting moments to be himself not an actor or brand ambassador, but just a twenty something man...ya know. People, actors/actresses, have talked about how they were never more lonely than at the height of their fame. So I worry, but I'm not going to be sending his company demands like I'm his mother.
That's what I was thinking. Like, they want what's best for him, but is this situation really good for him? Could be, I guess, if there really is no such thing as bad publicity..
Wow poor ZLH. Who are these people making demands of how,where and what dramas etc.. He should do. The nerves of some people. I hope his studio And Him. Don't give in to them. Because everyone else will have demands too. He has come a long way to be where he is at. Because of his hard work and sacrifices. So let him be. He shared his plan to avoid idol costume dramas (he also cited that his chronic lower back and cervical issues was caused by the heavy headpieces in costume dramas); focus on diversifying his portfolio (he mentioned wanting to explore other genres like sci-fi and police dramas); and aid this transition by working with top directors, and having better script choices. At 27, he seems focused on developing his career path and honing his skills for the the future.
He also needs to improve the most important thing, his acting skills that it takes time and acting experience to build up. Those called "proper serious dramas"" may help but will this type of drama consider ZLH? He is still regarded as a traffic star now

His willingness to audition for Daylight’s (an award winning production company) youth/slice of life period drama "Our Generation" last May 23, 2024 shows he has no qualms about working hard for it.

It never ceases to amaze me on how the Chinese fans behave with their stars. The pressure from the fans is insane! I for one would be very happy if my favorite actor was busy. It means more money and recognition for him. So far, I have liked most of the dramas that ZLH has been in. He has grown a lot as an actor. Story of Kunning Palace was very good in my opinion. He carried that character really well. I hope this doesn’t go on to affect his career in a negative way. I also hope this doesn’t become the norm with fans dedicating the artists career.
An actor's worst nightmare - fans who think they own him, fans who see him only as a tool to satisfy their fantasies, fans who think he is a push-over so they push him over, fans who don't trust him to fight his own battles so they claim they're fighting for him. With fans like these, who needs antifans?
Hi Marcus! I appreciate that the fans want what is best for their favorite actor, but their demands are a shock to hear. Mighty bold to demand they are informed about decisions about HIS jobs! I feel for ZLH being caught in such a difficult position. The prowess and constant monitoring of celebrities is scary. How did they know that was her vehicle and posting it? These fans have lots of power and I'm not sure I'd want to be a celebrity when everything I would do would be scrutinized and documented....or even be made up to hurt me. YIKES!! Zhang Linghe should address his fans directly....he should be reassuring them that he feels fine and that these dramas are his choices and he is not being forced by his studio....his fan clubs are worried about his health and his career on his behalf...it might be over reaching on their part but he should address them directly and let them know his personal views...

don't think the actor of an agency company has much freedom. Heard that some actors have given the passwords of their Weibo to their agency company, so the company can represent its actors to express opinions, or response to their fans.. Honestly,if i were an actor in Chinese dramaland, i will not say anything against my fans or my fans may feel unhappy, no longer support me, or even become haters.

In what world do the fans demand conditions of an actor? It just sounds like crazy people who think they have the power and it's perplexing to me how mental they can get. Wow. Just wow about the C-Drama fandom and its crazy demands on the actors. First it was Dilreba's costumes and now it's ZLH's busy schedule upsetting them. That is just so, so unreasonable and weird, LOL. What would they say if the studio acquiesce to their demands and give ZLH's schedule a twelve month vacation? To block someone from making a living is such a weird concept to me, especially when he is in high demand. I finished Fateful Love (gosh, I have such a hard time trying to remember whether it is Fated or Fateful) with Zhang Han and Bambi. It was good, chemistry-wise, but with the usual ending for such tropes of "time travel." The earlier episodes were the most fun because I always enjoy the silly tropes of the FL showing off all her new-found skills that the original owner of that body never had, LOL. Cheers, Marcus! I understand that the ZLH fans are worried about him being overworked. Am not a fan of their tactics but I do worry about all that work. Sometimes these actors are sooo busy that one does worry for them.
Hi 👋: Fated hearts is still filming and there’s no end in sight as of yet. Probably they will wrap in November. I like the trailer for A Dream within A Dream too. Same goes for The Best Thing which I believe is ZLH’s first modern drama and Our Generation as well as XZ’s ZHZ. All of those are on my watchlist and I really hope they air next year. I feel bad for ZLH honestly, he’s being pulled in two different directions. But I do understand some of the fan clubs points. In order to show his versatility, he has to take dramas that are out of the box since this is his determined career; also he needs to have more time off to prevent sickness and burnout. And lastly, the studio absolutely must protect him against rumors, slandering, trolls, etc. that last one is common sense. If he is in this upcoming drama, whatever it is, I will watch it nonetheless because I think he is incredibly talented and he can pull off just about any drama even though the last two he was in had very bad scripts. ZLH is indeed in a tough spot. As demanding as the fan clubs are, they are quite important for him. Like, many of the meet-and-greets, the booting and wrap get-togethers with the cakes and all that; those are all done through the fan club. Not to mention how they push him and his dramas on social media to make them trend. But on the other hand, his studio is the one negotiating the deals for him.
Who do these "fanclubs" think they are? This is ridiculous! These "fanclubs" need to think again, get their priorities straightened out and go back to truly supporting the actors they say they support Who are they to decide what is good for an actor? Do they know what the actor/actress's actual ideas are about the future of their career? These "fanclubs" have way too much power. They are not true fans with demanding things like this. I find it shocking that they can influence the career of an actor like this. Sure, if an actor does illegal things or socially bad things, i can imagibe they're disappointed in said actor/actress, but boycotting an actor because of the artistic choices he makes, because of HIS work? That is disgusting behaviour.

Well, ZLH is backed by capital and IQIYI, thus able to film 15 dramas (!!) in 4 yrs. He is lucky to have a capable agent. 😄No wonder he is finally popular. He needs a long vacation.

I'm split on my opinion about Zhang Linghe's fan club. I don't think they should tell him what projects to take or not take or what decisions he should make. *But* their demands to his studio seemed like they were trying to get more better treatment from the studio for him. They asked for: freedom for him to choose his own projects (ironically, because they are also trying to control what projects he takes) so he would be able to express himself artistically and not be typecast, that his interests be prioritized, and to take action against online malicious attacks against him. Those are all good things. But the things the fan club is doing/saying is contradicting. If they truly care as fans, maybe they should respect his choices but support him if they feel he's being treated unfairly by his studio. That shouldn't include telling *him* what to do.
The star (and the agency company) should listen to the fans because they now support the agency company business and profit. That's why they are entitled to give commands. They can't control anything but imagine they can become the boss of their idol
Zhang Linghe may appear to be doing a lot over a certain period but it just shows how popular he is. The actor himself doesn’t look any the worst off for it, neither is he complaining. I never understand how these fans think they warrant so much control over an actor’s life or activities. Frankly he is making hay while the sun shines, this is the time for it, he is good at it and he loves it so leave him be.
Why do fans have so much influence on artists professional and personal life? 1. It should be the artist's and their staff's right to select the project coz they are professionals. 2. The billing position should be based on the screen time of the character. If it is a female centred drama, it should be the female lead.
Asian fandoms seem to believe they are "shadow" managers of their "celebrity". This perception has both ups & downs but is not necessarily off target! ZLH has indeed worked very hard this last couple of years .... has he even had the chance to draw breath? In this case, the fandoms are echoing my own sensation that this talented young man has fallen into a work contract that is "milking his talent" for the benefit of thirds! The stereotype which often involves propping up a main female protagonist is indeed slowly becoming his hallmark. This development might not be to the liking of the fans but is not necessarily an imposition on the actor. There may be multiple political & commercial considerations at play behind the choices & decisions being made. What is certain is that given the nature of the Chinese film industry, actors are definitely not free to give "honest" interviews about their professional & personal ambitions .... this is what actually should be keeping the fandom awake with worry rather than the "insult" of second billing. Elsewhere this PR dilemma is solved by listing actors in order of appearance ... Unfortunately in the case of Asian talents listing in alphabetical order is a non starter 🙂
Thanks for the updates Marcus, I have liked Zhang Linghe since I spotted him in his debut lead role in Maiden Holmes years ago. He has since had led many dramas, most of which I did not or could not watch. I have been disappointed by his drama choices and there is nothing in his pipeline that I have plans to check out, much less watch. I think most of the time this kind of pressure by fan clubs can be misguided or for shallow reasons but in his case, I think he should listen to them.
I don't think its his choice, its his studio. He is still a new actor, debut about 5 years ago. He has been mistreated by the production companies in his last several dramas, so in a way his fan club is trying to protect him.

It is true that his studio could do a better job screening which dramas he should audition for and fans are now kicking them in the butt and telling them to get their act together.

Zhang Ling He workload looks average to me. When an actor breaks through, they have to take advantage of it while they are hot. What's interesting about him is that he started out as main lead even before he break through, but then he also did a couple of supporting roles. When people count 15, they also included what appears to be two minor supporting roles. Where C is costume and M is modern, excluding two supporting roles and Refinement of Faith that looks like some documentary involving a lot of actors, ZLH workload 2020 C(32), M(24), 2021 M(36), M(24), 2022 C(36) LBFAD was his breakout role. 2023 C(24), C(36), C(38), SOKP was another breakout role, 2024 C(40), C(36), 2025 M(40), M(24). He averages about two dramas a year where he is a main role similar to other actors.

It would be interesting to understand how and why Chinese culture and its environment has evolved over time to allow fandom to behave the way they do. It is a strange phenomenon unique in its acceptability in this country. Other countries have some issues to a far lesser degree with fans but responding to and allowing this behavior is bizarre to me. Stalking, slandering, accessing and selling personal data details and schedules seems to have little to no repercussions for citizens in a place where the CCP gets involved in individuals lives and controls what they do, day in and day out. Why don’t they put a stop to it? In fact, it seems to be encouraged and supported. The CCP deletes public information and censors it everyday as they see fit. Breeding this behavior is not beneficial to their society and certainly not to the entertainers. It’s like the Wild West in the entertainment sector in China, anything goes. An environment which encourages watching each other, reporting and judging on others😮 looks and actions (based on your individual interpretation of course), making demands like a spoilt young child, having temper tantrums in public etc. is acceptable. No thanks, not interested in supporting it or hearing about it.
ZLH knows best, however I think his fans have more power than him. If he doesn’t like the drama too what can he do, just say yes to his company. Maybe they are doing him a favor.

It's the way these so-called idol stars are marketed - like objects of fantasy and perfection. So, of course, they attract the rabids😂. That said, these actors don't deserve any of that. I think these rabids deserve aggressive pushbacks all the time.

He shared his plan to avoid idol costume dramas (he also cited that his chronic lower back and cervical issues was caused by the heavy headpieces in costume dramas); focus on diversifying his portfolio (he mentioned wanting to explore other genres like sci-fi and police dramas); and aid this transition by working with top directors, and having better script choices. At 27, he seems focused on developing his career path and honing his skills for the the future.
He also needs to improve the most important thing, his acting skills that it takes time and acting experience to build up. Those called "proper serious dramas"" may help but will this type of drama consider ZLH? He is still regarded as a traffic star now

It never ceases to amaze me on how the Chinese fans behave with their stars. The pressure from the fans is insane! I for one would be very happy if my favorite actor was busy. It means more money and recognition for him. So far, I have liked most of the dramas that ZLH has been in. He has grown a lot as an actor. Story of Kunning Palace was very good in my opinion. He carried that character really well. I hope this doesn’t go on to affect his career in a negative way. I also hope this doesn’t become the norm with fans dedicating the artists career.
An actor's worst nightmare - fans who think they own him, fans who see him only as a tool to satisfy their fantasies, fans who think he is a push-over so they push him over, fans who don't trust him to fight his own battles so they claim they're fighting for him. I feel for ZLH being caught in such a difficult position. The prowess and constant monitoring of celebrities is scary. How did they know that was her vehicle and posting it? Wow. Just wow about the C-Drama fandom and its crazy demands on the actors. First it was Dilreba's costumes and now it's ZLH's busy schedule upsetting them. That is just so, so unreasonable and weird, LOL. What would they say if the studio acquiesce to their demands and give ZLH's schedule a twelve month vacation? To block someone from making a living is such a weird concept to me, especially when he is in high demand.
I finished Fateful Love (gosh, I have such a hard time trying to remember whether it is Fated or Fateful) with Zhang Han and Bambi. It was good, chemistry-wise, but with the usual ending for such tropes of "time travel." The earlier episodes were the most fun because I always enjoy the silly tropes of the FL showing off all her new-found skills that the original owner of that body never had, LOL.

Hi 👋: Fated hearts is still filming and there’s no end in sight as of yet. Probably they will wrap in November. I like the trailer for A Dream within A Dream too. Same goes for The Best Thing which I believe is ZLH’s first modern drama and Our Generation as well as XZ’s ZHZ. All of those are on my watchlist and I really hope they air next year.
I feel bad for ZLH honestly, he’s being pulled in two different directions. But I do understand some of the fan clubs points. In order to show his versatility, he has to take dramas that are out of the box since this is his determined career; also he needs to have more time off to prevent sickness and burnout. And lastly, the studio absolutely must protect him against rumors, slandering, trolls, etc. that last one is common sense. If he is in this upcoming drama, whatever it is, I will watch it nonetheless because I think he is incredibly talented and he can pull off just about any drama even though the last two he was in had very bad scripts. ZLH is indeed in a tough spot. As demanding as the fan clubs are, they are quite important for him. Like, many of the meet-and-greets, the booting and wrap get-togethers with the cakes and all that; those are all done through the fan club. Not to mention how they push him and his dramas on social media to make them trend. But on the other hand, his studio is the one negotiating the deals for him.

Well, ZLH is backed by capital and IQIYI, thus able to film 15 dramas (!!) in 4 yrs. He is lucky to have a capable agent. 😄No wonder he is finally popular. He needs a long vacation.
ZLH has signed contract with his agency company. Don't think he has much freedom to choose his project. How come his fans club listed out such a list of requirement? just kidding, The agency company is running bussiness, it will definitely make the schedule of its actor full.
I'm split on my opinion about Zhang Linghe's fan club. I don't think they should tell him what projects to take or not take or what decisions he should make. *But* their demands to his studio seemed like they were trying to get more better treatment from the studio for him. They asked for: freedom for him to choose his own projects (ironically, because they are also trying to control what projects he takes) so he would be able to express himself artistically and not be typecast, that his interests be prioritized, and to take action against online malicious attacks against him. Those are all good things. But the things the fan club is doing/saying is contradicting. If they truly care as fans, maybe they should respect his choices but support him if they feel he's being treated unfairly by his studio. That shouldn't include telling *him* what to do.

Zhang Linghe may appear to be doing a lot over a certain period but it just shows how popular he is. The actor himself doesn’t look any the worst off for it, neither is he complaining. I never understand how these fans think they warrant so much control over an actor’s life or activities. Frankly he is making hay while the sun shines, this is the time for it, he is good at it and he loves it so leave him be.

Why do fans have so much influence on artists professional and personal life?
1. It should be the artist's and their staff's right to select the project coz they are professionals.
2. The billing position should be based on the screen time of the character. If it is a female centred drama, it should be the female lead.
Asian fandoms seem to believe they are "shadow" managers of their "celebrity". This perception has both ups & downs but is not necessarily off target! ZLH has indeed worked very hard this last couple of years .... has he even had the chance to draw breath? In this case, the fandoms are echoing my own sensation that this talented young man has fallen into a work contract that is "milking his talent" for the benefit of thirds! The stereotype which often involves propping up a main female protagonist is indeed slowly becoming his hallmark. This development might not be to the liking of the fans but is not necessarily an imposition on the actor. There may be multiple political & commercial considerations at play behind the choices & decisions being made. What is certain is that given the nature of the Chinese film industry, actors are definitely not free to give "honest" interviews about their professional & personal ambitions .... this is what actually should be keeping the fandom awake with worry rather than the "insult" of second billing. Elsewhere this PR dilemma is solved by listing actors in order of appearance ... Unfortunately in the case of Asian talents listing in alphabetical order is a non starter 🙂

I have liked Zhang Linghe since I spotted him in his debut lead role in Maiden Holmes years ago. He has since had led many dramas, most of which I did not or could not watch. I have been disappointed by his drama choices and there is nothing in his pipeline that I have plans to check out, much less watch. I think most of the time this kind of pressure by fan clubs can be misguided or for shallow reasons but in his case, I think he should listen to them.
I don't think its his choice, its his studio. He is still a new actor, debut about 5 years ago. He has been mistreated by the production companies in his last several dramas, so in a way his fan club is trying to protect him.

It is true that his studio could do a better job screening which dramas he should audition for and fans are now kicking them in the butt and telling them to get their act together.

Zhang Ling He workload looks average to me. When an actor breaks through, they have to take advantage of it while they are hot. What's interesting about him is that he started out as main lead even before he break through, but then he also did a couple of supporting roles. When people count 15, they also included what appears to be two minor supporting roles. Where C is costume and M is modern, excluding two supporting roles and Refinement of Faith that looks like some documentary involving a lot of actors, ZLH workload 2020 C(32), M(24), 2021 M(36), M(24), 2022 C(36) LBFAD was his breakout role. 2023 C(24), C(36), C(38), SOKP was another breakout role, 2024 C(40), C(36), 2025 M(40), M(24). He averages about two dramas a year where he is a main role similar to other actors.

It would be interesting to understand how and why Chinese culture and its environment has evolved over time to allow fandom to behave the way they do. It is a strange phenomenon unique in its acceptability in this country. Other countries have some issues to a far lesser degree with fans but responding to and allowing this behavior is bizarre to me. Stalking, slandering, accessing and selling personal data details and schedules seems to have little to no repercussions for citizens in a place where the CCP gets involved in individuals lives and controls what they do, day in and day out. Why don’t they put a stop to it? In fact, it seems to be encouraged and supported. The CCP deletes public information and censors it everyday as they see fit. Breeding this behavior is not beneficial to their society and certainly not to the entertainers. It’s like the Wild West in the entertainment sector in China, anything goes. An environment which encourages watching each other, reporting and judging on others😮 looks and actions (based on your individual interpretation of course), making demands like a spoilt young child, having temper tantrums in public etc. is acceptable. No thanks, not interested in supporting it or hearing about it.

It's the way these so-called idol stars are marketed - like objects of fantasy and perfection. So, of course, they attract the rabids😂. That said, these actors don't deserve any of that. I think these rabids deserve aggressive pushbacks all the time.
