In earlier versions of this film the Skeksis spoke their own language. Here is a scene with the alternate Skeksis language.

I love how the decrepitness of the original movie stands out more now, after seeing the Netflix series; you really get a good sense of just how much things have changed or decayed. Even the slower pace of the Skeksis makes you feel the weight of the years.

Brian Quint finally someone gets it. Thra is where we are right now. There are “rumours” claiming the royals and really wealthy people, people in power, they shapeshift into lizard-like creatures, they eat us, look for adrenochrome, I’m not making this up, even though the TH-cam algorithm will send people to reply to this comment to make it look like gibberish. Remember the film The Witches from 1990, which was produced by Jim Henson as well, remember the face of the Grand High Witch, compare it to the Skeksis. Powerful people are not human, they feed on us, we are their slaves in this massive deception and division they have created for us.
      Start thinking outside the box.

It's the made-up language the film originally had. Originally, the skeksis spoke a made-up language. This was changed later by the studio for marketing reasons among others. If I had to guess, it means "god" or "emperor"

Delicious Things With the costs involved for re-editing, re-printing DVDs, blu-rays and redistribution plus all the marketing campaigns involved the audience just isn't big enough for them to do it without risking bankruptcy.

    • @somethinsuavetheater

The biggest question is: Does the material exists in good condition to do a new cut of the film. That version you're referring to was based on a workprint that was transferred to VHS. Even this scene here is a workprint. .
And if they do have it in good condition, how much restoration would it need to bring it up to today's quality? If not much, then they could do it for very little. (Very little meaning around $25,000) If it needs major restoration, then that's up there. Plus, to kinda reply to what Kenazzle said, DVDs cost $1 if not less to manufacture. Blu-rays cost around $5. What will cost will be the actual restoration of the film. And it has to have a fan base because they're released it multiple times on DVD.

    • @CSGraves

I would be on that release so fast... I feel the movie would have been vastly improved with the Skeksis' original language intact, even though this clip shows us very little of it.

the Skeksis were already scary as FUCK, and the original language would have probably made me shit my pants at that age. lol

    • @SirBlackReeds

    • @kawaiibrarian
      @kawaiibrarian 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

obenrob, The film originally was going to have the Skeksis in their own unique Language (based loosely off Egyptian and Greek). The film would've used subtitles whenever a Skesis character spoke. Test audiences didn't like it (Possibly because the Subtitles were too distracting or otherwise), so the scenes were redubbed in English. Though to be honest, I prefer the made-up language dialogue - I'm used to watching foreign movies with subtitles.
I did watch a scene with the original language (a scene that was deleted from the final movie) - which Chamberlain (His real name is skekSil) brings Kira into the Throne room and tells the other skeksis that he brought in 'a live gelfling'.

SkekSo’s death rattles here actually sound pretty similar to his voice in Age of Resistance
Also, this scene messed me up as a kid, but not for the reason you think
Because the emperor seemed smaller than the others and (int he final film at least) had a higher voice, I thought he was way younger than the other Skeksis
Basically my 8 year old mind thought I’d witnessed a baby dying onscreen
I literally lost sleep over this misconception
Tbh if that was the case this film would be a lot more disturbing
