i cannot breathe. that's the most, um, melodic? harmonic? stretched???? (i don't even know what to way). i guess it's just one of the absolute goodest slap solos i've ever heard. maybe THE best...
The bass sound, Shack, the concept of solo, the endurance and the fluidity, the longest and musically the best slap solo I can remember. Kai played fretless beautifully with that band also. Too bad he doesn't use that instrument anymore. His recent playing and the tone was such a disappointment. Obviously something happened to him. Don't know what but this no longer exist.
Awesome! I came looking for what I was lookin for and I found more... The middle of this bass solo is the beginning to a song called Babaluwaiye on the album Fiafiaga (Celebration)by Steve Smith and Vital Information.... For years I wanted to see who was playing that bass line.. Now all I have to do is track down that old Stanley Clarke instructional video with the smooth slappin and my bass quest is over..... or has it just begun? TY youtube people
I was never a fan of headless basses but that particular one sounds incredible. Plus Kai's a excellent player. Awesome solo!! Have some of his work with Vital Information. I believe that bass is a clover model. They make great basses.

Flea is excellent in what hes been playing, which is much more simpler that what kai is been playing.Of course Kai,is even more technical, but it s better if we dont judge by solos, but by what they play in songs.anw that s just my opinion:O
What's that on his thumb? It's a blue band of... plastic? Maybe a cut-down thumbpick? Sure would come in handy, I get bloody if I try the Wooten upstrokes.
Was alle Musiker tun müssen ist üben.
Real Deal? Maybe, maybe not. But at 22 he's going at it. See myspace dot com/feraudhadrien and listen to Remeurs and Highjacked. Very Jaco-like. He's also on McLaughlin's Industrial Zen and touring US in September with JMcL and 4th Dimention.
This model of bass hasn't any, you put the end of the string that has the little ball at the end of the neck, the other end goes on the bridge and there are the tuning instruments, floyd rose-like ones, I guess. Guitars and basses like this have been around since the 80's, I always thought they looked like crap.
Kai's one of the unsung heroes of the bass. Not enough people are aware of his playing.
This guy was my mentor.
Never have I learned so much in 108 days
I second that!

I took lessons from him! Kai is amazing, and he has an knowledge of the mapping of the bass that makes him the best improvisationalist I know.
this trio live at Royal Festival hall is a great album
Eckhardt is just an awesome yet evil sounding name! Awesome!
NICE, NICE, NICE, I´m a fan of JOHN MCLAUGHLIN TRIO and Kai is a finese bass player. His solos are so beautiful! UPLOAD MORE PLEASE!
Amazing.

I would kill for a transcription of this solo. Absolutely incredible.
What the fuck! thats some of the most tastiest slapping i'v ever seen man!i don't think i want to play the bass after seeing that.

Amazing and very tasteful!
Damn, Kai, beat that thing!

The bass in this video is not a Schak, but a Clover Slapper
This monster bass player recorded and performed with Vital Information for a time. It's worth looking up and listening to.

super!!!

I believe i already posted on this video but i have to say it again this is some of the tastiest slapping i'v seen in a while.

I feel something of Mark King in his style. Or is it the other way around?

WOW....
0:38 , sounds like the intro bass from the song "scarred" by Dream Theater, which is a bass riff I love !
Is this a Schack bass?
dang....
What does Flea got on that?
I don't like the slap technique on the bass except when I listen to Victor Wooten, he is so musical even slapping
he look like stanley jordan!
oh kai...
Ele foi o baixista do Michael Jackson tbm?
@ stonetoaster Solche Gitarren/Bässe nennt man Headless Bässe/Gitarren
His thoughts the entire time: "Can't... HANDLE... ALL THIS FUNK"
lol 😂 nice! If I’m not watching, I would assume 2 bassist, one is slapping a rhythm in background other one is doing some flamenco’ish chords.

"Slapper" from German bass builder Clover.
