Scott Ambush is one of the greatest electric bassist on the planet...and he keeps getting better all the time! I love Scott and his brilliant bass playing.
Now these are the true musicians that the world should be listening to and admiring. I met Scott Ambush and the rest of Spyro Gyra in my hometown, awesome people and hands down my favorite Jazz Band.
@@tomalophicon Scott is a great Bass player. He reads music Superbly. Scott is also a Excellent Upright Acoustic bass player, playing Bebop Jazz. He's very accomplished in music composition of many genres. Scott can gig with any great musician regardless of that genre. .
I grew up in the Maryland area and as a fellow musician and bassist, I have not only heard Scott play with many folks around the DMV, but can also call him a friend. Manys a time, Scott came out to support a band I was with, the Atomic Brothers (90s) in and around the DMV. He'd just show up, hang out and talk music and bass. I remember when many of us hadn't seen Scott for months back in 1991. One day I ran into him at Washington Music Center and he told me the story of how he got the gig with Spyro Gyra. He was incredibly grateful for the opportunity and certainly has made the most of it, as evidenced by his being an integral part of Spyro Gyra for over 30 years now! Scott's skill sets and playing may not be for everybody, but at the end of the day, they're more than good enough to have him with Spyro Gyra and certainly others. How about we celebrate others and encourage each other, even in our differences? If we're really listening, we can all learn something....
This is one of the best bass solos I have ever heard!!! I truly loved that! I felt every note he played! The groove was killin and the breaks were clever! That is also the me of the best slap sounds I have ever heard as well! His bass sounds damn good and so smooth and clear!! The percussiveness of the bass really shines and cuts through as well as Marcus’ sound. ❤️
He's a great musician and easy to be around,he would come and listen to a local group I worked with, and just a great well balance person, the thump machine!!!!
I've read his basses are all privately made by him. An insane bassist and luthier. I saw him at the Royal Festival Hall in the late 90's with Spyrogyra. His solos stole the show. What a beast. He doesn't get enough credit unfortunately. Don't know why.
I have seen them over a dozen times and it's always a great show . Scott always gets great tone , no matter what gear . I spoke to John at Sonata in Austin and he said Scott had recently picked up some G & R Bass gear . I wonder if anyone had heard it live and what it sounded like .
Spyro Gyra was the first jazz electric jazz band I ever saw live, at West Valley Junior College in California. In the 1970’s. I didn’t understand what I was hearing having expected there to be rock music. I smoked my weed furiously trying to make the music better . I succeeded and will never forget their name or that moment in my life !
I remember getting to see Scott when he was playing with AL Williams and friends in Old Town, Alexandria. Al on vocals flute, (and sax, I believe), Andy Hamburger on drums, and I think Paul Bollenback on guitar (that was the mid 90's).. Scott was always a really nice guy.., and an amazing player.., (and humble).. All just great musicians. ,and good peeps ❣👍
It's one thing to come up with a bass solo, practice it for weeks and then play it so cleanly on the umpteenth take that you can publish it on your YT channel. But it's a WHOLE DIFFERENT THING, on stage, surrounded by absolutely great musicians, improvising a bass solo, absolutely flawless, and creating a sound like a tank jumping through a meadow of flowers ...
He doesn't have to go all pluck. Some finger runs would be a good mix in the solo. He will be one people will try to copy for future bassists. His right hand looks effortless but my ears hear a lot of funk and stuff. He has a new fan.
Spyro Gyra, Earl Klugh and Tom Brown are the musicians that brought me to Jazz. But, as a Jazz Band, Spyro Gyra is still my favorite, hands down! “Access All Areas” has literally been around the world with me, several times over.
hah. you're high friend. Go listen to a solo by Kai Eckhardt and then let's discuss soloing with musicality. Here, there's one right up there, to the right. 3:08 in duration.
@@matycee I get your point but I was mostly referring to all that fretboard wanking where players think that speed makes a good solo and it ends up just being noise.
What I love the most is that he's really feeling it. A lot of great technical players but its all head an no heart. THIS cat?! He's all the way in it!!
Ha, Scott won't remember but he jammed with me at the City Room in Frederick, Md. Something like 35 years ago. LOL He was incredible then. Love you Scott! I was an acoustic guitarist with Jim Petro doing psychadelic stuff. LOL I'm still playing every day. Great slapping, popping and grooves!

You couldn't expect anything less from a guy who makes his own basses. Perfect tone
He made this bass????????
@@Back2Bass777 YES
@@basssynthcover Do you know what he uses? Is it carbon fibre finger board?

Mine too since '77.
No offense but he sounds like every other slap bassist out there.
Meh

I first/1st saw them in the 90's after the group was around 20 years old. They have been one of the best and longest lasting Jazz groups in America.

Mind officially blown... Thanks for sharing
Spyro Gyro is one of the best jazz groups of the last 30 years. Scott Ambush has hands of lightning on that bass.
Sometimes Slap get boring after 2 minutes... but here we have a lot of nuances and a very interesting solo
Amazing bass player...off the charts

This solo has what most are missing... musicality. yes its technical, yes it has its flashy bits but it has feeling and it has feeling. me likey
From what I have heard, this puts them on another level compared to Snark Puppy.
Couldn`t agree more

Spyra Gyra wow I haven't heard from them since the 80's
Their music is timeless
Nice growl on that bass, I love that tone, outstanding solo!
He makes his own basses. Check out Ambush Basses
I felt some jaco in that solo especially with the piano in sync there
What A BASS PLAYER ARTIST!!
Did a tour with them back in the 90‘th. Amazing musicians.
Scott is ambushing those strings 😊
Wow that was awesome the bass was sounding naughty 🔥🔥🔥🎸
What I love the most is that he's really feeling it. A lot of great technical players but its all head an no heart. THIS cat?! He's all the way in it!!

No pick! Smooth playing and the coolest name in jazz music today.
Excellent
Great solo! Great musicianship! I was kinda disappointed that it didn't include Larnell ... who was JUST ABOUT to go RIDICULOUS on the drums tho!
That’s not Larnell Lewis, that’s Lee Pearson.
Great Playing!!!
