excellent, thanks, I believe that the hot side was partially open and not delivering full hot, by turning on the water and operating these I was able to solve my luke warm shower problem
Just installed new moen 3 port with stop like yours. Instructions in box didn't even address the shut off. Guess Moen was counting on your video for first timers. Thanks.
Thank you for making this video. Helped me identify what I had in my wall. And I agree with your assessment of the stop check valves requiring being screwed out all the way (ie. not quarter turn)
NOTE: For this particular Moen faucet model, you can also avoid having to turn off the water to the entire bathroom by simply closing the two screws (the one on far left, and the one on far right, both clockwise AS FAR AS THEY CAN GO - till the screw heads are only about a 1/16th of a inch visible). Doing so, closes/shuts down the water flow to the faucet's center cartridge and the pressure/anti-scald regulator cartridge, making it easy to change each of them out and/or clean each one anytime you want. Then after you reinstall the cartridges, you open up the screws all the way counter-clockwise to resume water flow to the faucet. Saves some time and headache.
If you have an older system, it's better not to mess with the check valves. I closed mine, did not overtighten, and the right one immediately started leaking. I wish I had turned off the house water to save some time and headache.
i had 2 handles shower valves and got upgraded by moen shower valve i noticed a big decrease in water pressure is a way i can get more water pressure out of it?
Rather than using those two screws to turn off the water, it's better to not touch the screws and go ahead and turn the water off at the source. There should be a valve that controls the water flow to the entire house.
You mentioned the cold water shut off screw was jammed stuck, how did you get it to un-stuck, I have a problem with the hot water side, I'm unable to loose or turn it, I can only do that the cold water. Any tips would be appreciated.
I never got it open and decided not to break it. If I were to make a tool, I'd cut a quarter in half and then use a vise grip with the half quarter as a bit, to try to open that.
Have you ever replaced one of the stop check valves? I have the same setup, mine started leaking after I turned them off to change the cartridge. Now it leaks around the screw head. 😮💨
@@justinmaloney910 My leak was just a drip now and then. I tweaked the valve in and out a few times, which for some reason slowed it down even more. Then I turned the house water off, applied some silicone at the leak (with the valve in open position), let it solidify somewhat, and no more leak. Temps and volume are fine out of the shower heads so no need to adjust it. Guess I'm good but I won't be screwing with the check valves again...
Thanks for your help. I had asked a question under a different profile about your model. It looks like I deleted your reply and my question today...didn't mean to do that. Anyway your video did help even though you are working on a different part. It looks like I need to replace the balancing spool to the right of the cartridge. I'm not getting any water at all on the hot setting.

Hey dumbell. Those two screws are used to set the maximum temp of the outflowing water for safety. You set them so that the hottest temp to flow out will not be hot enough to scald you.
Mines still running after 3 cartridge changes may need to call a plumber this were very convinenient to have as it’s still running like a sieve and know I can at least keep my main on. If anybody knows what my problem maybe please let me know. I a going to try one more stem before calling a plumber
Exactly the info I needed for those two screws on the hot and cold sides! Moen does not make it obvious what these screws are either.
THANKS...this video actually makes sense. These guys saying quarter turn are driving around with their blinker on

Do you happen to have the Moen model number or part number available?

Good info and vid. Dealing with a similar issue with a Delta shower faucet and either a faulty CW stop check valve or balance spool...ugh
Thank you for explaining this, helped me out for sure.
Thanks you have explained those shutoff valves when the manual did not. That could be my problem with low pressure in the shower
finally help with this kind of valve, Thank You
You the man! Exactly!

Thanks , I thought those stop check valves were fine adjustments maybe for in cases where the hot and cold water pressure was different on each side.
Important info
Thx much
How'd you get your free'd? Mine are frozen and wont budge

I have not. Good luck.
I just experienced the same problem. My best advice is not to mess with the check valves!
@stevenoliger2763 I ended up just getting a new valve, turning water to the house off and changing it

I don't think that's correct. (And I won't call you dumbell.)
Calling someone dumbbell and being dead ass wrong is crazy 😂

What model is this?
My Moen valve Handel sticks out about 3/4 of an inch to far. Can it be adjusted?
I don't think it can be adjusted. The entire valve needs to be moved. I'm pretty sure this valve location determines the final handle position.
If its a temperature issue your balancing spool is the problem.
I turned the screw all the way I , and my woman is pregnant now. Bad advice galore.
Dont turn it!!!! My shower blow water from that scrub
