      @@kish_myworldHi Kish, I watched this video yesterday and was disheartened by what I saw because this level of poverty shouldn’t be happening to such a rich country like Namibia which has recently discovered 100 Billions barrels of oil off shore. I do hope they can utilise this revenue so that it can benefit the average Namibian. Peace and blessings to you. 😊

    You must go to Katutura Central, Herero Location, Nana Location, Damara and Ovambo Locations, Donker Hoek, Dolam,Khomasdal etc these are the original segregated parts of greater Katutura and Wibdhoek. Havana etc are recent additions after independence., so if you speak
    about Katutura visit Katutura proper, the history is there and where it all started. You are at the backend of Katutura, it's possible I may have missed a prior video by you?

      But you are forgetting our historical context. We only gained independence in 1990. That time 80% of black people were uneducated. The poverty rate was around 70%.
      Black people were mostly confined to their homelands and migration to urban areas controlled.
      After independence people were free to move and live anywhere. A lot of them flocked to Windhoek. And all those informal settlements you see are after inde where people got tired of waiting for municipality to avail them land to build their houses. They took the matters into their hands and occupied the land that has no services.
      Even those that can actually afford to build brick houses are unable to because the land is not theirs.
      Up until 2 years ago municipality used to demolish those houses. The land needs to be serviced first and surveyed before people are given title deeds. Only then can they build brick houses.
      Back to the poverty rate, since independence it has reduced to about 20% , but the informal settlements issue will take a long time to resolve because before the land is serviced, people need to be settled somewhere else. The municipality has started doing that. But it'll probably take 10 years provided people don't take more unserviced municipal land.

      @@kish_myworldkish you are doing a good job at highlighting the problems that the ordinary locals are facing and it seems that this is a classic case of living in grinding poverty with no way out.
      The government should really do something about it because how can these Muzungus live the high life in Namibia and other parts of Africa whilst the locals live in misery.
      I have noted that all through Africa and wherever the diaspora is black people are living in poverty and I have come to the conclusion that this is what the Muzungus like and how they expect us to live. It is also cruel because you only have one life to live which seems to be wasted heaven help us.

    The problem with many African countries they develop their cities and forget about their villages which is contrary to what Botswana is doing (thats why there is no slums in Botswana ) .The government develop villages ,there is water and electricity and of recent there is free internet in public places.Hospitals /clinics and schools are build in these villages even some big learning institutions are build in villages to develop and creat employment there ,so there is no need to rush to cities.

    What you focus determine what you get in life. Namebia focus on best road and then they get Best road in Africa. Thier next focus must be its own people rather than infrastructure alone. I learn from this video being rich country is not solve your country people problem until government focus on its
    People like the roads infrastructure already focused on exists in Namebia.

      I'm from Botswana too and haven't seen slums only thing I'll say is that there is poverty and unemployment mostly affecting us the youth.The land here is free but u have to apply for it ,good thing is that in every place with more that 1000 people water and electricity is always given to the people.

    • @melby6512

      The reason you dont see slums in Botswana is the government tries by all means to develop villages ,they connect electricity and water of recent free internet ,that way people dont find the need to travel to cities for basic necessities.

    It's hard for municipality to provide service to places where people have already settled. The municipality has been trying. It's even difficult to dig sewer lines since people have already settled there.
    The municipality has been trying to build houses in the informal settlements but not easy since people need to be moved. So they have only been able to construct 200 houses in the last 2 years.

    • @muchit3629
      @muchit3629 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Our African governments need to rethink housing needs. In the West in a year or two they can put up say a 20 story building that can house 500 or so apartments so we need to build vertical instead of always thinking everyone should have a house. These people would be happy in a two bedroom apartment with clean water and electricity. The leaders just lack will. They are not embarrassed that they neglect part of society.

    • @Tt-iu4vk
      @Tt-iu4vk 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think it would help if we Africans could stop making excuses for our governments. That's very few houses so that just shows the government is not interested. The government builds and moves people around all the time in SA. There is no poor person that's living in a shack that would not move into a decent house with electricity and water and transport route. Namibia has a few people, lots of land and Diamonds. There is no need for this situation to persist in the country. At the rate the government is going, the population growth will exceed the government's ability to provide services.

    • @M_KK
      @M_KK 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Tt-iu4vk you're not Namibian so I don't expect you to understand the situation, neither the historical context. The municipality with their limited budget has been trying. In fact even this year they're building flats for the people in the informal settlements. But the uncontrollable grabbing of land every year makes it difficult to service these areas. These people are cramped together. Where do the water and sewer lines go? The other option is for the government to develop all areas in the country equally so that people don't flock to the major cities.
      Also not everyone in the informal settlements is unable to build their brick houses. The only thing holding them back is that the land is not serviced so they can't have title deeds. If they build brick houses without a title deed it'll get demolished.

    • @muchit3629
      @muchit3629 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Tt-iu4vk Unfortunately we get the leaders we deserve. People should be on the streets everyday demanding better services. I saw a documentary where a European firm paid a few hundred thousand dollars to some government officials and in return was pulling hundreds of millions worth of fish from the coast off Namibia. Make no mistake this is duplicated all over Africa including my own country which shares a tiny piece of land with Namibia over the Caprivi strip. The corruption is nauseating. Now i was in Colombia recently and people were shutting down streets in the capital because they were not happy with changes to the pension and retirement plans as well as high medical bills. The mayor of Bogota vowed not to enforce federal decrees that were detrimental to the population of his city which houses the federal bureaucracy. People are not scared to confront and challenge their leaders over bad policies. Our leaders are shameless.
