Sophia you nail it in that traditional attire, you behaved well in the way you walked in that dress. Thanks for the hospitality you showed to Kish. Believe me there are Namibians who do not even know that there is a place called Opuwo💕
5:02 The meat they are eating was represented by the brides side of the family special piece of cooked meat from the sacred fire (a fire that burns on the brides’ property) to present to the families of the groom as a union like "we are one now" and eish it sounds better in my native language 😅
Kish, you are an over-attentive interviewer and ask lots of questions. This is good because it shows deep interest. Your problem is you fire questions to rapidly and don't allow the interviewee to finish talking. Also avoid finishing sentences for your interviewees and repeating yourself to many times. Less talk from you will allow the other person to express themselves much better and longer.
Hi Kish my world there you are enjoying Herero wedding. You are not alone bro as we are watching the video we are enjoying as well. Thank you for that keep up brother.
What the lady meaned by the age mates of the groom isn't age mates by age but the men circumcised in the same year, in herero culture men are circumcised while they are babies so when one is getting married those men will be like best men or so
The concept of 'Mwari Kukaa Ndan'i or the 'Maiden Being Inside' in Kiswahili is a common Bantu theme and is practised even in East Africa especially Kenyan Coast anda large part of Tanzania through to South Africa. It is meant to symbolise chastity, purity, patience, self-control. In the Swahili East Africa it is another time for the bride to be given marriage advice but also taught how to please the husband by her somo ( or senge meaning aunt), nyakanga or kungwi. In Coastal East Africa it is called 'Kufundwa' which basically means Kufunzwa or being taught.
Namibia has different tribes and all tribes have sub tribes just like in other African countries so Hereros is a tribe with sub tribes being Himbas, Hereros and Zembas etc so Himbas and Hereros are same people speaking same language with slight difference in pronouncing the words and the accent is also different
Hello Kish, good to watch this informative vldeo. My opinion about african culture, there are some customs as africans we can keep and some we need to drop. We should drop those customs which are especially biased.
Which culture is biased here a herero Marrying a cousin is not biased and it's not an arranged marriage the man will propose to a lady like any men would after being in a relationship
She is trying to tell you the meat from the groom side is given to the bride and same also the bride side give meat to the groom side and its same part of the cow called "evango"
You must be Boer or coloured. Because, Nguni's/Basotho/Tswana are not even allowed to marry within their same clan. So please speak for your self don't generalize all South African tribes.
Eating of skin is rare in East and Southern Africa. It's a different cattle culture coming from a place of abundance as the savannah environment allows keeping large herds. Eating skin and many other undesirable parts of the cow is a West African thing especially in the swampy, forested area where there could be a protein deficiency due to lack of domestic cattle-keeping. This is due to tsetse fly and the equatorial forest/ climatic conditions. You notice that the West and Central African forest dwellers consumes a lot of wild game that is considered abominable by their Bantu cousins. The Bantu had even to create a totem system with elaborate food taboos to stop consumption of some wild game. Yet, the Bantu are originally from Mambila plateau in the Cameroon border with Nigeria. Hides and Skins have different use in East and Southern Africa.
That’s not a shock, it happens in many Bantu cultures, it’s very common in Kongo and even in Kenya, you’re just a city boy who have lost hold of your cultures and customs.
@@janek6843 you have clearly lost touch of your culture and traditions then, doesn’t surprise me though as Kenyans happens to be some of the most sell out people alongside Ugandans and Tanzanians. If you look deep into your history you’ll know that marriages between cousins were very prevalent, ask your mwami’s if you even have any.
So because it's "culture" it is right? Too much abomination in the name of culture and tradition, hence why kids in these places are being born with all sorts of deformities and illnesses.
@@kish_myworld It's not a shame, Botswana, Lesotho Swaziland, Namibia and some part of Zim are influenced by SA slang, culture and cuisine, what they are trying to say is I pity her/shame is used as a slang ,I see even eish is adopted in East Africa.
Namibia is rich in culture , we are grateful you visited our country 🎉

In Germany, it's allowed to marry your cousin. I don't know anybody who did, but it's legal.
Queen Elizabeth married her cousin Prince Phillip.
How comes there is disease if they share wife and husband each other….?

NO. Its NOT NORMAL. It's an ABOMINATION and INCEST is Punishable by LAW and Traditions. It is very SHAMEFUL.
Shame the lady is trying so hard to explain herself and tell Kish her culture
why shame though?
Some other parts of my country its their culture and the don't care.

Kish spreading mis information. He's looking for negativity....
How and the locals are giving him the information
@mercy don’t mind him. There’s always guys like this in the world
