On the National Express there's a jolly hostess Selling crisps and tea She'll provide you with drinks and theatrical winks For a sky-high fee Mini-skirts were in style when she danced down the aisle Back in '63 But it's hard to get by when your arse is the size Of a small country
@@johnmcquay82 On the occasions I went up to Newcastle/Ashington in the early 90's on the National Express Rapide, there were some really hot Geordie lasses on those coaches.
I love taking the National Express with comfortable & modern coaches, friendly staff and ice cold aircon! Even if it is a bit longer than the train, the fares definatley make up for the longer journey times! Glad you enjoyed your trip too :D
The Levante 3s National Express use are surprisingly very nice if it’s not too busy. The seats are comfortable and give a fair bit of privacy. They’re best at night when the blue ambient lights glows down the coach. They just need to re-do that 5 minute long safety announcement, it goes on forever. Great video G
Haven’t been on a coach for years. They really look very stylish. Only time I did one before Oz was a coach from Manchester to Butlins Minehead overnight. A shocker. Still enjoy your train vids as well as this. Cheers.
Nice one - glad you like Cardiff so much, is a beautiful city and is such a great and green location for a coach terminal when compared with other cities
Lucy really knows a thing or two about coaches! That is a very nice vehicle, I have to say, and I agree that the colour scheme for the interior looks very smart and will probably last well. Even that loo looked clean and efficient! Hope you enjoyed your Cardiff trip, both of you!
The Levantes are nice looking vehicles, unfortunately Caetano build quality leaves a bit to be desired. The blue lights are night lights. Good to see the newer ones have USB-Cs, ours are 68 reg so don't have them. WiFi is fitted to the coaches but doesn't always work
This brings back so many happy memories of visiting my girlfriend in Sheffield, I'd get I think the 350 to Bradford from Nottingham Broadmarsh and she would be waiting for me at Sheffield Interchange which was very new then, around 1998. Lovely times. I noticed that the new Trent Barton buses on the Threes service, not only had standard USB sockets but also USB C AND charging pad stations on some of the seats. Tfs, blessed day x
Love using National Express around the UK. I often use them from Bournemouth or Southampton to London as its cheaper and more reliable than the trains. Though I once did a Southampton-Edinburgh National Express Coach journey as I wanted to compare the Coach to the Plane (using easyJet)
Great video G , really enjoyed the video . I usually drive everywhere but my wife and I actually used this service from Birmingham to Cardiff , that's the last time I used the national express coach service . Keep up the excellent work 😊😊.
That was a great video G, loved it. Your singing was fab. I thought you had a Dandelion in seed on your t shirt until I realised it was the microphone.
Brilliant video G, I've seen so many national express coaches around during my lifetime and I've still not been on one lol. The M5 is a motorway I've endured for far too long of a length of time when travelling down to Cornwall by car. Don't even get me started on the M50, it's not what I'd class as a motorway by todays standards lol. Also the weather here was the exact weather as on my first holiday down to Wales almost 20 years ago.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on the national express (bet they don’t have jolly hostesses anymore!) I found that being 6ft2, that it was just a bit too cosy on the coaches - although this coach looks amazing!
Glad you had a great ride on the national express to the mega centre of the universe Cardiff your fav place of all G, and the knowledgeable Lucy of all things coaches great Vblog see u both again soon guys 🤗
I'm on the national express now from Heathrow airport to London Victoria some people say that seat 2a is the best seat but if the toilet doesn't smell bad the seat all the way at the back is the best as the perks is well... Unlimited leg room all the way to the front of the coach :-)
I have been on a National Express coach before. Also National Express used to run rail services when you had WAGN, c2c, One Railway/NXEA, National Express East Coast, Scotrail, Wessex & West and Thames Trains.
i really enjoyed this vlog i used to travel up North to Blackburn or Manchester on the National express when i was very young before i started going up on the Train but the last time i used the National Express was back in 2009 when i had a day out in Stratford Upon Avon i traveled from Newbury to Stratford & back even tho i do all my long distance travel on the train i always keep the National express as Backup if i need it & i remember the National Express Song good song & the coach looks amazing brilliant vlog
So glad you made the nod towards the Divine Comedy, shame royalties prevents you from using it. I mentally hum it whenever I see one of their coaches. Nice looking coach and always odd to see my home city on video like this. Plans are the coach station at Sophia Gardens will eventually relocate to the rear of the railway station at some point.
We're doing a trip Newport-London in June to make sure we catch a flight - the earliest train would have left zero margin for error if anything went wrong. £10 per head, can't go wrong.
Lovely stuff as ever G. I'm heading to Wolverhampton next Friday but instead of the direct train from Wigan I'm going the more unusual route of Newton-le-Willows to Chester then Chester to Wolverhampton via Wrexham and Shrewsbury so that'll be something to look forward to as it'll be a nice change from the norm
Those coach seats looked very comfortable. Problem with a washroom at the back of the coach in the event of a badly timed rear end shunt ( oooeeerrrr Mrs ) you could see the back wall smashed and have just you sat on the loo for all to see ha ha ha ha
Really enjoy your youthful enthusiasm, hope the channel grows so we can watch you enjoy European Trains.. Maybe, just Maybe you will find somewhere you like as much as Cardiff?
I usually book seat 2A whilst booking National Express being a tall person and in my opinion thats the best seat you can get on National Express as it offers you a great legroom. You should try the Belfast-Dublin Dublin Express service, which is owned by National Express even if it has a different livery, but its brilliant nonetheless
If I wanna go to London, I normally just take the National Express coach, costs me nothing to take (I have a Discount I can use), so it's a no brainer, and it's not bad, just so long as you realise that it's a coach of 50-60 people and not a train.
In 1980 NatEx didnt stop at University - would have been handy in a way for me if they did , but most of the time I was getting an early morning from London to Cardiff Bus station , arrive 0830 then change onto local bus to work in Ely for the week ( cycled back to flat opposite UWIST for the week ) Still dont think I know where Sophia Gardens is as such ( my entire time was spent along Cowbridge Road or Crwys Road ! )
The majority of people get off at Cardiff University because it's more central than Sophia Gardens which is just a patch of mud on the Wrong Side of the River.
I do feel that national express vehicles are quite good, have you ever been on one of their electric buses they are really good and have when they bother to put them route announcements like London buses which I think is cool
I drive for NX's bus operation in Birmingham, and we turned our wifi off at the beginning of the year, the company stating that very few people were still using it thanks to everyone having virtually unlimited data these days! Don't know if they've done the same on the coaches but that may explain your lack of wifi!
Rail fare (with a railcard) a few days in advance is about £25 and takes less than two hours, so for the coach company to charge over £20 and take nearly three hours is a bit of no-brainer. Especially if you have a bladder like "G"...🤣
I remember the old Digbeth (Brum) coach station before it's redevelopment, You needed a tetanus shot just waiting for the coach, and the fumes... cor blimy.
Yeah, Sophia Gardens isn't what you would call a psuedo interchange and it is a good distance outside of the city as well so maybe could be useful for NX to find a location somewhere in the city centre for them to pick up and drop off Also, squishy boobies, in The Wigan, the local cry of a good lady. In Birmingham, a sign that you have pulled haha
I know Scott from Planes, Trains and everything has done a comparison. Also I've done one comparing Flix with Megabus and also done National Express too. Hope G doesn't mind me jumping in here plugging my stuff 😊
I’ve heard that National Express aren’t as good as they were before. Including when they operated rail operators under National Express. Including National Express East Coast, One Railway/National Express East Anglia, WAGN, c2c, Scotrail, Wessex & West and other train operators that were franchised by National Express.
Did you ever see the old Digbeth coach station? It was a really terrible place. They were going to build the new one up the hill, somewhere near Snow Hill station, but it didn’t happen and they ended up demolishing the old one and building the new one on the same site. While this was done there was a trmporary one across the road.
G have you been to Norwich? not sure if Cardiff and Norwich are my favourite city. Last time I was in Cardiff I was given the job of leader of all the staff and students for taking 7 coaches with 52 people in each full of students (they were learning English for the summer) to the city on the hottest day of the year it was 30C+ that day
Sounds like you have become a poet in class with a person born in Stratford upon Avon But there are two things that should made the trip better You speaking Welsh and next time please travel down via the heart of wales line
Wow getting flashbacks, used to be in Birmingham coach station almost every night driving London to belfast, northbound was 2am and south was 3am, Bruce's in scotland had the longest nx journeys in the country, inverness-london, Aberdeen-London, edinburgh-Plymouth, Edinburgh-Bournemouth, and obviously belfast-london, ours was a 17 hour journey, we had two of the newest coaches in the fleet at one point bu18osr and osv both levante 2, they don't do those long journeys now so mostly it's a connection ticket, miss those days
Fully agree that there should be more USB-C ports on public transport. Looked a very nice coach
Absolutely! 😀
