This is exactly the video I needed to understand the use cases for using these mics for hybrid teaching. Thank you.
Finally a microphone that is really useful! I was searching for this for so long....
Thanks Ashley. I recently had feedback from my online students that the AAUUMMs (OMs) were cutting short and the singing bowl bell ringing (just a 'ding') was also cutting off quickly. I think it happened after a Zoom update so probably the Zoom default settings changed. So after trying g a few things unsuccessfully, I discovered that changing the Zoom mic settings in *Suppress Background Noise* from 'Auto' to 'Low' solved the problem! And not only can they now hear the full long 'AAUUMM's and 'dings', they can finally also hear the soft music that I've been playing in the background the whole time. I use the original RODE Wireless Go (in my cleavage under the shirt), with the middle volume setting, and am relatively close to the speakers and the music is not very loud - a bit lower than I used to have in studio classes, back in the old days. Thankfully the students can't hear the dogs barking outside, chatty neighbours, or noisy motorbikes passing, or even the council street garbage collectors in their noisy trucks - I'm in the front room in a 1st/2nd floor flat, with a busy residential street intersection outside.
That's great to know! I'll have to test it or check out my settings. And that does happen with the original Rode Wireless Go. Are you using the second one with two microphones?
Thank you for sharing all this information
Hi Ashley - Thanks so much for this informative video. I had been searching for a way to share music in my hybrid classes, and for a system to use to for outdoor yoga as well. I got the Rode system with two mics and it's been absolutely terrific in both settings! For outdoors, I plug the transceiver into my outdoor speaker, and then mic myself and the music separately - works like a charm, without having to spring for a PA and mixer. I even took it the whole system out on the water for a kayaking and meditation class. I'm now sharing these tech solutions with other teachers I know. Really appreciate your videos, especially as a newer teacher. - Jen
Thank you for reviewing BOTH!
Thank you SO much. This is exactly what I needed to find and hear.

Such a smart idea to use BOTH mics to also get the music playing at the same time. I've got the original version 1 wireless go, but don't feel like I really need to upgrade to version 2 yet at this point. If I didn't have a wireless mic yet, I'd definitely get the wireless go 2, though!
Yeah! I'm actually going to do some further testing because an issue with volume settings came up with the Rode II and was brought to my attention a couple times. Further testing is required! I'm on it!
@@AshleyHagen can’t wait to see more!
@@jaimetan Just did a quick volume test on Zoom because I've seen a few people say that you cannot adjust the volume if you are plugging in through USB on a mac computer. I didn't find that to be the case. The recording came out totally fine. I've used one of the Rode II mics for Zoom conference calls and it's been fine. So incredibly helpful, thank you so much!
Thakns Ashley god blessed you for all this information!!
This is so helpful. I've being trying Spotify and all sorts. Everyone seems to recommend Rode. Can't wait until mine arrives.
Yes, because I've been recommending it for yoga and making videos about it for a whole year. I think I was the catalyst in that, and I'm not mad about it at all. ;)
@@AshleyHagen Rode should be grateful :)
@@NinYogaUK I know, right? They currently don't have a referral or affiliate program, but I'm still going to talk about them and continue to use Amazon affiliate (even though it's just 4%). Hey, it's something!
Thanks for this demo Ashley! Currently shopping for mics to pick up voice and music separately
In the RODE Wireless 2 you can change the the volume to dB to get more then three steps thru the RODE app on the Desktop for both Mac and PC, And if you try to use the wireless GO 2 with your desktop with the USB cable you have to change the volume on the mic withing your desktop settings. So dont give up on the RODE Wireless 2 they are more versitile when it comes to Volume. i Highly recomend getting the Desktop app for all the Rode Wirless GO 2 users.
I have my gain at -12 with receiver plugged into my aux setting on my speaker turned all the way up and students cant hear me feet away outside. What am i doing wrong?
I figured it out! thanks anyway.
where can i find this app for rode go 2? super interested in this set up for hybrid classes. thank you!
scrap that. i've found it all on website and reading all the info... phew!
Ashley thank you for being so helpful!
LOVE THIS!!!!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you really helped me!
wow amazing thank you!

So helpful! 🤩
Nice Ganesh and Nataraj there. 😊
Right? They were beautiful in the space. Unfortunately I no longer have the. I didn't own the Ganesh and the previous owner came back and took it to sell it (so sad!) and I gave the Nataraj to someone that saw it as much more special than I did. It has a happy home.
Great video! I do not know if you provided this on the description above, but what speaker are you using?
This is incredible, thank you so much for your videos. Super useful. I have the Rode Wireless me and was wondering, doesn't the RX need to be connected to the laptop? Then how would I record the sound from my speakers as TX is on me? Maybe I'm overthinking this ha.
I really appreciate your work and your sharing this information, as this is information that I really needed!
Unfortunately, I have not had the same experience as you - I ordered the Rode Wireless Go II and have had two problems:
1. The transmitter does not charge (I've tried multiple times)
2. The receiver in the WIGO II system does NOT have a microphone - I wondered if I was doing something wrong, but the Rode website comparing the Go II and the ME confirms that the microphone built-in to the receiver is unique to the ME system.
I wonder if they have changed all of this since your purchase?
The Rode Wireless Go II originally comes with two microphones (3 pieces total), which I am showing here, not a transmitter in the receiver. The ME has a transmitter in the receiver and can be used as one of the microphones. The ME wasn't an option when I created this video years ago.
Hey there Ashley!
I just purchased the recommended Rode wireless Go. I do teach online, in person, and hybrid classes.
With this video, are you suggesting the Rode II is in addition to the Rode I by itself?
So the set up would be the Rode 1 on me, and the Rode II is by my music device...? So I would need to purchase both units?
No, the Rode Wireless Go I and II are totally separate. You would not use the original with the II. The second comes with two microphones and one receiver. You cannot add an additional microphone to the Rode original. Watch my video just prior to this one for more information. It's in the description, too.
See my longer comment above, but you could try changing the Audio settings in Zoom to 'Low' in the Suppress Background Noise configuration, it's usually defaulted to 'Auto'.
Hi, trying to help my wife with this setup, got her the go 2 and trying to get it to work with iphone. Bought a sc15 lightning cable but get no sound in Zoom. Works in video recording.
Great intro/hook. Sorry I’ve been stalking all of your content lol
Stalk away! I have a video somewhere on creating "binge-worthy" content so I suppose it's working. 😉
Q. Is the Rode able to be used for the live class. E.g not just with your computer but if say you need to project your voice in a room?
Yes. You can plug the receiver right into a speaker to amplify your voice. Use the cable that the Rode comes with (SC5 cable, black to black)
@@AshleyHagen This is cool. It does everything i need!
wow! that is SO worth it if you're using music. Do you happen to know if it uses a different recording channel, meaning, can you delete the music recording if you were wanting to upload the class without the music? Just curious! 😀
So, actually the microphones themselves record a backup (up to 7 hours) inside of the microphone piece so you can grab the file using the Rode software on a computer. I have not done this, but I've been watching videos about it. On the video you are recording, where ever that is, the two microphones sounds are combined. So there is definitely a work-around if you need to separate the files.
@@AshleyHagen woaaah that’s the coolest thing ever! Ha! Thanks Ashley!
I found this video! Super helpful! If I use the lav will I be able to prevent the mic from getting wet. My dance classes get sweaty and I heard that the mic is not waterproof. THanks!
Maybe. I'm not entirely sure. I think there are some specific headsets out there that could be helpful, too. I know this questions has been asked several times. I just can't remember what the exact solution was. But there IS a way!
Does the mic work in the studio for talking? Or just online?
Can you do an update with the Diety mic? I recently bought that one and I get it next month
The Deity microphone does not come with two transmitters so it's not going to work with the set-up that I am referencing in this video.
Thanks so much for the info. I have recently extended my teaching to a gym which has their own sound system but the mic is not so great. Trying to figure out my options with or without integration to the studio’s system. So many options make for a lot of confusion!
Are you doing live stream Zoom class at the same time for the gym?
@@AshleyHagen no, just using their system for live class. They currently have a mic/transmitter but the wire seems to pick up a lot of noise plus it falls off my head constantly. Oh and it gets feedback when my face is very near the floor? I am only able to use it for the initial grounding practice. So looking into purchasing my own. At least a mic that would/could be compatible with the transmitter?
I have a studio and a built in speaker system vs. a small bluetooth speaker so the speakers are in the ceiling which is 10 feet high- any suggestions? I guess i could get a ladder and situate one of the rode wireless mics up high? still trying to figure this out.
Do you have it on split mode or merge them??? Also, what settings do you have yours on to get yours so loud ? I bought it but mine only goes up to 0dB and it doesn’t seem to be very loud
Thank you for your video! I want to ask if you can connect earphones -headset -to hear your self in real time and the quality of the sound that the students have. It is important for me as I want to adjust with my voice volume during breathwork classes. Hearing the outcome of my voice would be a great tool.
Or is there another way to make possible to hear yourself during recording?
If you are talking, it's going to be very difficult to hear yourself in real time with earphones. At best, it'd sound like an echo, but extremely distracting. You'd need it to be offset a few seconds to be able to test the volume. You wouldn't want to do this during the class. I'd recommend doing this before class. Do a test run before the actual event.
I consider using this for teaching couples dance, one for me and one for my partner to amplify our voices using a speaker in the same room. I worry about feedback and loss of reception as we'll walk in and out among the student couples.
Placement of transmitter might help, maybe I could wear a cap or hat, and my partner might wear the transmitter clipped to her hair clamp, and then a headset like Rode HS2. Has anyone tried something like this?
Hi Ashely, may I ask if you check online participants through your screen and if they can speak/communicate to you somehow?thanks!!
I don't currently teach in a studio or hybrid anymore, so no, I don't. But you definitely could do that. And yes, they can speak and communicate to you if you wanted. You can set your speaker separate from the microphone using Zoom on a computer. On a phone or tablet, you have more limitations and they would not be able to, unless you unplug your microphone or you choose to use airpods.
Thanks Ashley for this.. I'm curious about this in regards to a dance fitness class, where the music might be played a little louder.
If I used it for an in-person only dance fitness class.. what is your speculation on how well they could hear my voice?
Do you know if Rode Mics generally speak as loud as headset ones?
All you can do is test it out. There are too many factors that contribute for me to give you a solid yes/no. I think it would definitely work, but you'd have to adjust the volume as needed, the space between the music mic and the speakers and anything else. Definitely do a test run first and make adjustments.
@@AshleyHagen Okay thanks :- D
Hi Ashley, I have the original wireless go and not II which you says works for live classes, using music. I have a Bose Blue tooth Speaker which doesn't seem to work with Wireless Go because both of Blue tooth devices. What other suggestions do you have for a live class with Wireless Go? I also have the Tribit Flybys for Zoom, on-line yoga. Thank you Anamda
Are you trying to amplify your voice with your bluetooth speaker? You would need one speaker for music and another separate speaker for the voice amplification. You can't use one for both purposes. The wireless go plugs in using the AUX input, not through bluetooth.
So you don’t use the share music option on the zoom call?
If you were doing a hybrid class where you also had live in-person participants, you'd want them to hear the music, too. It wouldn't be loud enough for your in-person students if you used the share screen option on Zoom. If you are ONLY doing an online class, the share screen option is a much better option.
Hi Ashley, I bought the wireless Go 2 to up my hybrid yoga class game but I 'm having issues. They can either only hear me and not the music or only hear the music and not me. I use the 2 mics, one on me and one by the speaker. The minute I turn the speaker one on I apparently go really muffled and they can't hear me. My set up for is via my HP laptop with a logitech webcam, the rode transmitter is plugged into my computer with the USB cord that it comes with. They join online over zoom. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Someone mentioned turning off "safety mode." You can likely do this in the Rode central program on the computer. I have not done this myself but it's something to look into. You might also change so the channels are not split, instead they are together. Another thing to test.
Thank u Ashley - can u help me? I thought I saw in one of your videos that you use the Rode II as a microphone with a speaker to project your voice ie teaching to a large group outside. If not could you suggest something? Perhaps another idea for a video for you.
Both the original Rode and the II will work for this. You just plug in the receiver and set the speaker to AUX. Turn the volume all the way up on both the microphone and the speaker. Here's the video: th-cam.com/video/mhDgT2dYDCY/w-d-xo.html
Thank you - you are the best!
Hi! I’m sorry I know this is an older video but I am trying to find a nice setup for virtual classes and music and was curious if the “wireless me” would work the same as the Go 2 or if I should just go with the Go 2? Thank you!
If you're doing virtual classes, play the music through Zoom directly rather than using a microphone to pick up the music. th-cam.com/video/FTpJTCyCEmM/w-d-xo.html
@@AshleyHagen Thank you!!
I've been scrolling all day for this info and I was feeling so overwhelmed ! Thank you! FYI all your videos are super practical. I have a question for though... my new space is VERY echo ...will both sound and music be ok ? I'm using the logitech brio to do mostly prerecordings... is it easy to switch the to that microphone ?
This studio that I am filming in for this video is SO echoy. There is no way I would ever not use a microphone. I actually have an audio comparison video some place. So short answer, yes, it will pick up your voice and music just fine. It is very easy to switch to the Rode microphone. Just make sure to use the correct cables to plug into your computer.
@@AshleyHagen yes I saw that one after , :) thanks a million I'm getting mine tomorrow !!! This is all I'm missing to give quality virtually classes !
Is there a different set up for using the share function in Zoom?
If you are trying to also play music in the actual class for the in-person students, you wouldn't want to share the music through Zoom. I don't think you can also hear the music. Which is why this is a work-around for hybrid classes.
Hi, you're just using the set that comes with 2, right? I'm a little confused, the regular one comes with two, and you need one to be plugged into the recording device, and the other one is on you, right? So to be able to have one also at the speaker, do need 3 total, correct? So in that case did you purchase the dual, the one that comes with three? Thanks for your answer, I appreciate it!
The Rode Wireless Go II originally comes with 3 pieces (2 microphones and one receiver). Now they sell it with just 1 mic and 1 receiver and the original model is no longer sold.
Can this rode wireless go 2 setup be used in Zoom?
Yes. You may need a couple other specific cables for your recording device (computer or phone).Make sure you get the Rode SC7 cable to connect to phone or computer. The cable it comes with will only work with cameras or speakers. For a computer, you might need to USB adapter, depending on the computer.
Why don't you use the share function of Zoom?
If this were a hybrid yoga class (with live participants in the studio), I want them to be able to hear the music, too. They wouldn't be able to hear music with the advanced Zoom share function. Just the Zoom students would hear the music.
It is working the same with zoom? Or do you do a special deprograming of zoom to be able to play music? Because I have the noise cancelation all the time,
Thanks for your sharing and hope you could answer me
With the Rode Wireless Go II? I just created a quick demo on Zoom here: th-cam.com/video/Epdy834RGGg/w-d-xo.html
Hi Ashley, I have tried setting up my wireless go 2 in a similar way but have my receiver plugged in to my laptop via the USB charging cable. I have had an issue with the sound coming from the mic near the speaker and have found that I have to use the 2 mics in merged mode to be able to get sound from both microphones using zoom. Do you have your system set up to merged or split channels? If split channel what do you do to get the sound from both mics?
For this demo, I had split channels. And I didn’t do anything except plug it in through my phone using the SC7 cable. I don’t use the charging USB cable. Adjusting the volume that way is a pain. It’s possible, but not easy. So I use my original cables that I use with the Rode I.
