    Back in the day when we did brake work on our Hot Rods we would clean up the drums (most of our old cars had them front and rear) and find some spray paint close to the same color as the car and spray the drums , if not the same color then the trim or pin strip color .

    When doing brakes i would lay out a shop rag or two and lay out my parts to keep them together and spray the parts that i would reuse with brake clean . Just like the drums get a ridge in them the backing plate where the shoes ride will get a wear ridge in them , i would use my drumel tool and smooth it down and use a dab of high temp silicon grease at each contact point . If you don't get those smoothed down the brakes click and hang on the ridges and will drive ya nuts to find what it is .

  • @haroldrogers6083
    @haroldrogers6083 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still say one of the carts with air up tires tou can roll around to where the work is being done you can keep all the tools and parts you are going to use on it and the top of the cart can be used as a work bench . On the automatic adjuster aftrr you free it up i would put some of the high temp silicon grease on it to keep it moving free . What i used was from Napa it was a silicon cam lube came in a small tube but they had large tubes also , i would use. It on the floating caliper pens on the disk brakes also .

    • @CarolinaCustomClassics
      @CarolinaCustomClassics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow thats a great idea about the lube on the adjuster, will do that next time! And yeah that cart would definitely come in handy!

    I can rebuild carburetors or adjust lifters all day long but I leave the brakes to someone who knows what they're doing. They are a mystery to me.

      Brakes are pretty simple. I’m sure you could learn.

    • @CarolinaCustomClassics

      They can be aggravating sometimes thats for sure, the newer disc brakes are way easier. Thanks so much for watching!

      @@stomper2582 I'm sure I could but, I don't have an old classic car or the money to buy one.

    • @stomper2582
      @stomper2582 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielventura8073 most of the newer cars don’t have carbuerators or overhead valves either. You’re right, classic cars are mortgage payment expensive right now. Too bad so many were crushed during Obama’s cash for clunkers program. That is why there are so many of them still left in Canada. 👍

  • @allanfranklin9615
    @allanfranklin9615 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Typical brake job on these cars , I've done many over the years, just like this, in the dirt and grass without any brake tools, no brake cleaner, and rebuilding wheel cylinders. Over the years I obtained proper tools, which made the job much easier. If you placed a piece of cardboard on the ground under the wheel you would be less likely to lose a small part, thus making you a true shade tree mechanic.
