    I got my seeds to germinate in about a week. The paper towel method, sunny windowsill, and summer heat did it.

    Stevia works fantastically for cheese cake, pudding, biscotti, icecream, etc. It works best in desserts that have a lot of eggs/butter or desserts that are meant to be dry/crispy like biscotti. I am diabetic and pretty much only have sugar free desserts.

      Was wondering about ice cream since the sugar plays an important role in the ice cream setting up properly. I guess you'd have to use more heavy cream or eggs to compensate?

    I started my Stevia seeds with a Jiffy Windowsill Greenhouse. Placed a seed on each pellet and placed it in my window. First sprout came in four days. Five more sprouted about five days later.

    A dollar store spray bottle with an atomizer on fine mist works much better for germinating and watering new seedlings. A bottle with holes poked in still will water unevenly and disturbs the soil.

    I threw the seeds in a pot in my greenhouse, watered them and I have 10 plants going 😁

    The sweet-leaved raspberry (Rubus suavissimus) also has the same use,which is also frost-resistant compared to stevia. According to traditional Chinese medicine, it is used to make a medicinal drink known as Sweet tea Tian-cha. The raspberry version of steviol, called rubusoside, provides the sweet taste of the leaves of this raspberry.

    I'm a stevia expert, lol. The best place to buy them is Seed Savers because the seeds work and they give you 100+ seeds as compared to other companies. Cooks Garden sells good ones too but you get only 10 seeds but you'll get 90% germination. Cooks Garden is Burpee. I have some nice ones growing indoors and it's best just to clone them. I don't like them outdoors because the ants are just crazy about them so for me indoors only. Unless you like ants in your tea. They sold stevia at Home depot just one year that I have seen and that was about 5 years ago. You can buy plants live online and clone to get more.

      @@wyncec7622 As far as buying any kinds of seed or anything for that matter the odds of someone else reading your comment and also being from the Philippines would be rare so I would recommend that you always go to local garden nurseries or big box stores like Home Depot or whatever it is that you have there and look around to see what’s available, then the other option would be to shop online. Stevia seeds are NOT rare, this is a extremely common plant and they sell it yearly at the Home Depot etc

    you don't need sugar in baking ,substitute with apple sauce & stevia !

  • @EzekielsCall

    It is not true that you can't use Stevia in cakes and pies. Yes, for some things you need granular sugar, but for many you can use Stevia.
    You can also use a part stevia, part sugar mix in many cases. Probably you will want to check out the science involved in baking recipes
    to determine whether or not you can use it. I make paleo brownies using almond flour, and use stevia instead of sugar and they come out great.
    Even apple pie filling I'm pretty positive you can go with all stevia if you want, but you can do a mix of part stevia , part regular sugar if you like the
    taste better. Carmelizing requires regular sugar, but other than that I'm really not sure why he said this.

      You can even use swerve with cakes and cheesecakes and stuff as I find it better with binding just like sugar, and use stevia in the toppings.

  • @EzekielsCall
    @EzekielsCall 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Stevia is 3x as sweet as sugar. 1 tsp is = to 1 tbsp sugar.
    1c = 8 oz = 16 tbsp regular sugar = a little over 5 tsp stevia.

    How do you make the leaves into a powder or granular?

      Thank you for the question here is the website that explains how to do that wholelifestylenutrition.com/videos/how-to-make-your-own-pure-stevia-liquid-stevia-part-2/
      Harvest your stevia plant by cutting off the branches at the base of the plant.
      Wash the branches/leaves in clean filter water.
      Pick leaves off stevia plant, discard the stems, and dry the leaves for 12 hours in the sun.
      Once your leaves are dry, grind them in a food processor or coffee grinder to make pure stevia. I find that a coffee grinder makes for the finest powder and works very nicely.
      Note ~ homegrown stevia powder is not as sweet as store bought stevia (300 times sweeter than sugar). To cook with home grown stevia simply replace every 1 cup of sugar with 3-4 teaspoons of homegrown stevia.
      To make liquid stevia, dissolve 1/4 cup pure homegrown stevia powder with 1 cup hot filtered water. Stir and leave out at room temperature for 24 hours. After 24 hours strain the stevia out of the liquid and store the liquid stevia in the refrigerator.
