I remember seeing lobster in a tank at the regular grocery store when I was a kid. I always wished I could take them home so they wouldn't get eaten. We're all born with compassion, we're just taught to ignore it.

I really doubt each person is born with compassion. People still hunt for sport, people still eat animals alive. They know what they're doing, they love it and they dont see a problem with it. I see more people without humanity than people who care for others

The crabs make me extra sad. To think that as a kid I thought the lobsters in the tank at red lobster were cool but somehow knew that I didn't want to order lobster so some extent of a connection was made.
When I saw this asian lady killing a crab with her bare hands in Thailand after taking him from the river, I felt sad for the crab! She then cooked him with a stove !

I went to Sydney fish Market about 10 years ago, we bought balmain bugs for the barbecue and thought they were delicious. It's incredible and so sad that back then I, like so many people, treated innocent lives like these with so little care. 😕
I don't feel guilty that I used to eat animals, fish, birds, milk because i didn't know better. But what I do feel guilty about is having pet fish in a tiny goldfish bowl, that was their entire life. My parents should have known better but they didn't, no one told me. Maybe I should have known too

It's so messed up that people still think sea life can't feel things. I've seen vegetarians that claim eating fish is fine, and they're still a vegetarian. I've kept goldfish as companion animals before, and they are so unique and smart in their own way, they live for many years. Even as pets, they are commonly neglected because nobody gives them the space they deserve. Then in the wild they are caught, and their water is polluted. Aquatic life just can't catch a break and so many people don't see them as animals.

Fishes should not be kept as pets if you can't take care of them properly and provide the required area for their growth.

Cultural lies determine the level of disconnect in people. Look at places like Korea & China, they have dogs in cages ready to be killed and eaten because it "tastes nice" or is "normal" to them. Let's be honest, fish are harder to relate to aren't they, because of scales and fins. BUT, what's the first we should do when we have trouble relating to another being, Human or non Human? I've always felt sad looking at fish on a market stall or shop window. I think it's their eyes. They have that glazed over death look. Seeing your videos on this Joey makes it even more horrific - the suffering they must have gone through. Unbelievable.

When many of those fish were cut open I bet there were sad looking fish with glazed over looks in their eyes inside their bellies. That fish in the belly could have been eaten by a horrible human but fortunately for it, it was gobbled up by a bigger fish. Happy endings!

Last year I bought an entire bucket of these 1:03 from a fisherman, then I took the bucket and released them back to the lake, only a couple didn't make it, those two were crushed by the rest.

I had to go to an Asian supermarket with some family to pick up some things and the smell was absolutely horrendous, we could smell the rotting fish from the doors. Even in a butcher’s shop, it smells horrible. I hate that these places are a thing.

One of my earliest memories is being at a grocery store and crying because I was looking at the lobsters who were tied up in a filthy tank and piled on top of one another.

One of the first animals I felt for were octopus and crustaceans. I learnt that in prawn farms they pluck the eyes out of prawns to make them breed more ...seeing lobster and crabs being boiled alive ... heatbreaking
When I was younger I would save crabs on the beach from parasites and I remember being super mad at my friend’s dad for capturing and eating crabs

The reason the crabs are tied up and left alive is because if they were dead they would have to be cooked immediately or else people would get sick

I work in a popular busy seafood market i sell lots of varieties in demand.,it is very hard for me knowing what ppl do to them the mud crab,the live pippies. When i see them alive i feel a connection ,i study octapus and squids whom are my favourite species. Fish have fillings there Intelligent.
next you should go to a pea farm and react to the squirrels, rabbits, rats, mice, possums, hogs that are poisoned, shot or killed in animal traps :) nothing like an animal taking 24 hours to slowly die from rodenticide poisoning so you can eat your vegetables 'guilt free'!!

I'm not a vegan but i have to point out the utter hypocrisy here lmao. Now, i can understand being against commercial fishing. It overfishes the waters and does damage to habitats and fish population, most of it goes to waste too. That is bad. But there is a stark difference between commercial fishing and fishing on your own with a rod. If i fish with a rod, i'm taking maybe 1-3 fish lives, and that'll feed me for a week. Zero waste and it's more than sustainable for the lakes and the sea.
Vegan farming. BILLIONS of (SENTIENT) ANIMAL lives are lost each year. And that's NOT counting the insects. We can safely assume that the number of insect lives lost to farming is in the hundreds of billions.
So how do you justify that? I'd need about 120 fish to feed myself dinner for a full year. To feed you cabbage and whatever other veggie, literally billions of lives are required.

I saw a pigs head in Walmart for less than $10 when it was thanksgiving one time, scared the crap at me. Not sure I was vegan then but it made me sad well as shook because I wasn’t expecting it.

I stopped eating meat completely some years back, and the older I get, the closer I also get to drop fish 100%. Though I already barely eat fish, I feel like completely stopping would not be an issue at all.

You do realise that in nature animals suffer more painful deaths by other animals right? Being eaten alive, getting half of your body eaten and then left for dying like that, a giant whale gulping you and thousands of your friends alive at once and you all die inside its stomach etc etc
There is a video on youtube, some komodo dragons eating a deer from stomach while its still alive, look up for it you can easily find it. That deer is also pregnant and were probably at the stage of giving birth, but komodos come and start eating by ripping the stomach, gulping the baby deer and continuing with the mom, meanwhile the mom is still alive at this point
You vegans act like if humans were to stop eating animals, no animal would suffer ever

I steped on a small ant hill and therefore its okay to kill billions of animals to eat them.
It's really odd, the whole world revolves around "food" and not long ago this was so normal in my mind. The world is an entirely different place after going vegan. Gives you kinda a strange feeling or at least it does in my mind.
I used to go around the covered market in Oxford UK and although I found it uncomfortable and off putting, I never actually gave it too much thought. I just turned away, the smell was awful. It's gone bust now because of covid. I was definitely speciesist. Guilty. I regret it. My friend used to buy baby octopus. That upset me but the fish didn't at the time.

I don't understand the point of vegans. Nature itself is cruel, are you anti-nature? Besides, cruelty only exists in our emotion-perceiving minds.
Are you a nihilist? Guess what? Slavery, tribal warfare, rape, and cannibalism were all natural habits of our ancestors. If cruelty only exists in the mind, then why have any moral standards at all? If you personally value human lives then it only makes sense to extend that value to animals upon seeing how they experience the same suffering and core emotions that we can.
