    Really enjoyed this video. Great job explaining and going over all the differences. Your love, experience, and expertise in this model really shows here.. and the advantages of having both ap1 and ap2 in the garage really gives you the credibility. Keep it up and really cheering for you to get bigger and more presence on TH-cam... you deserve it.

    Another awesome thing of the s2000 is the timeless design. This car still looks modern and some non car guys think it's a new Honda!

    S2000s are like baby Ferraris. High revving rwd balanced road legal 'daily driveable' go-karts.

      And it wasn't until the Ferrari 458 Italia came along and broke the production engine HP per liter record that the F20C held for 11 years!

      Garage Quinn Motors That's where you're wrong. The Mazda RX7 FD has an hp/liter of 200.7!

      I am talking about naturally aspirated engine output. If we count forced induction, then you can say my turbo Miata is making 187 hp/liter :)

    I know at this point this is a dated video; however, you did fantastic job reviewing the AP2 and describing how it compares to the AP1. I had a AP2 10 years ago and and had a number of cars since then, including a Porsche 911. Nothing has come close to the driving experience of the S2000. New cars are faster and more capable, but the S2000 gives the driver a sense of theater that few other cars can match at any price point. I’ve come full circle and think I need another S2000. Keep up the good work.

    This is my favorite S2000 video by far . I have watched a dozen times. Super accurate description of what that car is and isn't. The aggressive driving portions are sublime and you Stupid deep Lingo is awesome. I have been lusting for one for 20 years now. I am finally in a good place in my life where I could buy one so I DID! I am picking it up in a few days and I still cant believe I am going to get my DREAM CAR. I cant wait to drive it but also cant wait to see it parked in my garage next to my 1989 CRX SI that I have owned for 20 years. I now own 2 out of 3 of my favorite Honda's . Nsx I ll see you soon .. but not too soon junior.

    Great video man. As a 22 year old guy who has liked s2000s for almost ten years now, videos like these are my only outlet for my deep want for them. Add the fact that they just slowly raise in price year after year, it somewhat saddens me. I still cling to the hope that I can find one to call my own, without completely breaking the bank. Your channel is awesome man, hope it continues to grow as well. ✌ -Fan from Canada.

    Just stumble across this great video, a little late as this is 2 years old now, but man that's very spot on. I saw a good number of youtube videos lately, as I'm trying to make up my mind to actually sell my EU Ap1 Restyling S2000 (F20c lump on "your" US Ap2 platform) and this video just made me thing again about the sell. I think the 2 major downs of the S2000 are that you need to be in the right mood/road/wheater to explore the car limits at full chat, otherwise it feels a tad frustrating due to the kack of torque and playfulness of the chassis, where a Miata (as an example) is lively in much more standard, daily situations. And point number 2 is I had an Elise before the S2000, and so the Honda feels much more heavy and steering dumb in comparison, but yet a much more better car overall. And I find that sum up the problem: it is quite comfy and usable as daily, but not so fun as a miata in that situation, and on the other end, not so focused and wild like an Elise as a weekend warrior. Best of both worlds, but also doesn't really shine in a specific way like the other two. So I'm thinking to switch for an ND (never had a miata before) but as I said in the opening, this video just makes me think twice. So, thank you (or maybe not! :))

    Hey bro great video. I just bought a S2k 2005 AP2. I love it last year but f cable throttle as you already know. I have it on n yellow Pearl only has 17k miles on it. So I'm gonna keep her for a long time before i let her go. I am keeping it all stock absolutely. I just had a question to ask you since you're a big car enthusiast. What tites would you recommend for it? Looking for summer/wet. Nice nothing too sticky so I do t over work suspension. Probably gonna do alittle autocross with her next year that's it. Mainly gonna drive it in good weather she is my weekend car. I live in NJ .. thanks

    Awesome videos, I have a short attention span and never learned how to watch much TV or movies, but have enjoyed your videos. I currently own a ap2 with the nannies ;) I'm new to RWD, and have found it to give me some sense of security as I progressively learn to drive closer to the limits. One day I plan to shut it off when I graduate..
    Can you provide insight on the 7lb flywheel you installed on the ap1?
    I removed the delay mechanism in my ap2 slave.. and I'm planning for lightened flywheel, but how light is too light from your perspective.
    I will not be driving daily, but don't want to stuggle greatly and stall engaging first gear.
    Thanks again for the great videos and feedback.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. The 7lb flywheel certainly makes the revs snappier, but since I am N/A I am running it with a new OEM Exedy sprung clutch disk and pressure plate, so it is actually fairly docile and easy to manipulate.

  • @michaelmann5105

    I know this is a really late comment but why did u choose to go with the 225s on a 9 inch in the front instead of a 245 or 255? Was it just for looks because 40 offset is very low for the front wheels of an s2k? I'm running 245 all around because I thought it would supposedly decrease understeer

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wheel and tire combo on here is what my friend who owned the car previously put on. The 9" wide with +40 was a tough fit in the front, so I think that is what drove the decision. He also wasn't big on oversteer, hence why he chose to keep a staggered setup. Ironically, this car oversteered quite easily, so I think the alignment was more responsible for that than the tire setup.

    Great video review and comparison with the AP1, GQM! Very clear, enough street driving to see how tight it is, and, how controllable as well. The AP1 (or, yours at least) seems more raw (manic?), faster to cut loose in the rear, less manageable on bumps, but, really, really exciting to drive)(EDIT after post- wrong car? No AP1 drive impression yet???) I'm doing an RX-8, and, have watched your drive video of that as well. It seems to be a longer wheelbase car, with more give in the corners- less likely to snap loose in the rear, maybe, slightly easier to keep control of at similar speeds. the RX-8 seems to have more suspension travel, less power, and, a little less punishing on mid curve bumps. Can you share your thoughts on differences between them? I'm thinking more GT feeling, less short road course, although great shifting, easy to turn, good steering wheel feel... Hard to compare different cars, but- curious to your sense on the differences. Dave

      Thanks Dave. This was my AP2 that I sold over this past summer. The AP1 impression was more recent and is here: th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=IFWsCvNC7Wk . The RX-8 is a much more forgiving suspension and has longer travel. Combine Mazda's magic suspension engineering with the longer wheel base and you have a car that you can go stupid fast over bumps without the car getting upset. The S2000's suspension is a little more old school in that regard. It gets the job done mechanically, but like most simple A-Arm setups it's a little more nervous and snappy at the limit.

      That's what I was thinking. And, you POWN the Miata's on the street & track (it's clearly your driving 'comfy zone'), so, the S2000 is a fancy Miata in your hands. Also, they are just so sweet stock- I get why they are completely in your wheelhouse. I also get why the AP1 is your project car. It's great to see all of these being driven they way they can be- in safety- it's very satisfying for subscribers. During the middle of Winter. When most are under cover, trickle chargers attached, and, dreams to next projects brewing in our heads. But, I digress! Really do appreciate these gems- a true life saver when average daily high temps start in the teens, and, end in the mid 20's... keeps the fire burning. I'd like to reach out re: my RX-8 build- what's my best forum? The webpage discussion? Email? Really want your input on my '08 RX-8 40th AE build. Hate wasting $$'s, only to R & R expensive pieces/parts that don't work for desired goals... And, you've done work already- feedback/input would be greatly valued. Sorry to nudge, but, hate highjacking threads...

    Hey man! Love youre videos! Really envy of you having such a nice garage! Personally I have a Bmw Z4 myself. I always wanted the S2000. But where im from its only available is AP1 (unless you wanna pay twice the amount cause of taxes) Anyway! I love the Bmw Z4 Coupe M. Would really love to have 1 myself one day! So thanks for making a vid of that!
    Anyway. I am planning to buy a S2000. Ap1 mainly. Is there any big difference in the cars if you choose to supercharge them? Couse then you have more boost to reach 9k Rmp. And that kind of makes more rpm better? Or im I compleatly wrong here?
    Let me know what you think! Keep up the vids!

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Fredrik, the AP1 is an awesome car. I love my AP1! As far as supercharging goes, the pulleys are different for the AP1 vs AP2 kits. Here is an example of what comes with the Kraftwerks kits, the amount of max boost at which RPM and the speed of the impeller.
      Here is the standard formula to find out the impeller speed:
      Impeller RPM = RPM Engine MAX x Crank Pulley Dia. x Rotrex Ratio / Supercharger Pulley Dia.
      For Example: 9350 (RPM ENGINE MAX AP1) x 128 (Crank Pulley) x
      7.50 (C38 Ratio) / 100 (Supercharger Pulley) = 89,760 RPM @ Impeller.
      For those with some custom setup or an RPM that isn't noted, use this:
      Pulley Dia. Supercharger = RPM Engine MAX x Crank Pulley Dia. x Rotrex Ratio / Impeller RPM
      For Example: 9350 (RPM Engine Max AP1) x 128 (Crank Pulley) x
      7.50 (C38 Ratio) / 90,000 (C38 Max Impeller) = 99.73 → 100
      AP1 Comes with 128mm Crank + 100mm S/C Pulley for 9350Rpm Redline @ Approx 12.5psi → 89,760 @ Impeller
      Option 1. AP1 128mm Crank + 95mm S/C Pulley for 8900Rpm Redline @ Approx 14.5psi → 89,937 @ Impeller
      Option 2. AP1 128mm Crank + 90mm S/C Pulley for 8450Rpm Redline @ Approx 16.5psi → 90,133 @ Impeller
      AP2 Comes with 128mm Crank + 90mm S/C Pulley for 8400Rpm Redline @ Approx 13psi → 89,600 @ Impeller
      Option 1. AP2 128mm Crank + 85mm S/C Pulley for 8000Rpm Redline @ Approx 14.5psi → 90,353 @ Impeller
      Option 2. AP2 128mm Crank + 80mm S/C Pulley for 7500Rpm Redline @ Approx 16.5psi → 90,000 @ Impeller

    I am 15 years old in high school and I was considering an s2000 as my first car because it's manual, fun, and not that expensive. I wanted to know anyone's opinion on if it would be a good first car or not.

    • @botdingo
      @botdingo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will this be the first sports car you've driven? I started out with a 98 Nissan Altima. I lost control of it a few times early on. An S2000 is a handful for someone just starting so I think for anyone jumping right into a sports car, you must respect the speed and learn to feel the cars limits. These things really only come with experience and its so easy to think you know it all well before you do. With that said, an S2000 would be a great introduction into sports cars and manual transmission. Great motor that wont give you too much trouble, not too much power but enough to have fun, and one of the best manual gearboxes ever.

    Awesome video bro! I have a 2005 S2000...and i would not sell or trade that car for anything. The car in my eyes is perfect. The only improvements would be changing out your Timing Chain Tensioner because it is a weak point. Also adding a ingalls engine damper to make your shifts feel extra precise and accurate. Adding that made my driving experience a 100 times better!

      I wouldn't worry about that. You can easily get the little extra engine excitement with a set of cams and raising your rev limit to 8600. Not to mention it would make more power than the AP1 too by a good margin.

    Which is a better handling car....the s2000 or the mazda rx-8? I have a 2011 mazda rx-8 and to me it's the most amazing handling car I ever drove....I like it better the the Porsche gt3 in handling....not power!

    • @TheSlipAngle

      As far as I am concerned, the RX-8 has one of the best suspensions to ever leave the factory. An S2000 may have slightly more mechanical grip, but the RX-8 in my book is one of the best handling cars ever.

    Dude man I have to disagree with only one thing you said but I loved everything else I've driven the AP1 and ap2 stock for both of them there is no horsepower difference and they both accelerate the same and I could not tell the difference when we were lined up both of us knew how to drive stick well and both of us and left at the same time he did not pull from me I did feel like I was going a little faster like you said with RPMs rising a little bit more in the AP1 but sounding faster and being faster are two different things loved the video!

    • @TheSlipAngle
