Crazier is an interception bounced right off the chest of a sure handed Texas safety.

@@MarcelATX Not really? Gidden was a great safety. He just had one fall though his hands? Its not much more of a scapegoat situation than the whole "what if the tech player steps out of bounds" or "what if the Texas player knocks the ball down there" or "what if the Texas player makes the tackle". It is kind of the nature of these kind of conversations. You might be sensitive to the subject but its been like 15 years.. Blake is coaching at the University and doing great. I am sure even he would tell you he wishes he had that one back.

Ironically, Tech is the king of "What If?" programs ever. It does my heart good to be on the right side of 1 of these. I was at that game & on the visitor sideline, near the opposite endzone, and it was so crowded, I couldn't see the catch. I heard a roar & knew he caught it, then another roar & saw Crabs in the endzone & it was awesome.

If we are playing what if, if TT doesn't score and Texas wins out and wins the NC and Colt doesn't get hurt in 09 and Texas manages to pull that one out, does that change the dynamic from the SEC, SEC, SEC to the Big 12 continuing to dominate on the national scene by getting the best players?

Lots of unfortunate feelings about that moment but the biggest is the weird conference rules at that time made three top 5 teams in the country in Texas, OU, and Tech fight for one conf game spot against Missouri or Nebraska who both had 4 losses by then and we're barely ranked in the top 25. So then you end up getting a OU 62-21 trouncing of Missouri instead of another rematch and slugfest vs Tech or Texas. They fixed the rule later and made it top 2 teams but the significance will never be what it was this year.

As a USC Trojans fan, off the top of my head: Bush push (if it failed).
Vince Young was actually ruled down in the national title game.
If USC beat Oregon State in 2008.
Other entries: Speaking of Colt McCoy, if he didn't get injured against Bama in the title game, would that have helped Texas to win?
If 'Kick-6' failed, Bama's kicker made it.

This wondering is why there’s a playoff. Yes those moments are crazy to see a play make or break a season and keeping you on the edge of the seat till the championship games are set and more games with value at the end of the season but people hated wondering what if ? What if number 3 Texas got the opportunity to play Florida for the trophy? Well now there’s lest suspense in week 13 and less wondering after the championship game. Which do we prefer suspense and questions or coasting into the playoffs and leaving the season with less questions?

If Ryan Reynolds didn’t get hurt in the RRS, OU beats Texas in 2008. The backup, Austin Box, was also hurt. They had nobody ready to play the Mike. By the time OU got to the national championship game, they had gotten Mike Balugan ready at Mike and he played pretty good and the defense played good enough to beat UF.

If only Curtis Brown, one of the greatest Gilmer Buckeyes of all time, had taken the right angle to Crabtree. He could have easily pushed him out of bounds and that would have been that. One player changed both the NFL and college football. That player is Drew Brees. Drew Brees was close to going to the Miami dolphins coached by Saban. He didn't go there, he went to New Orleans instead. Brees goes to the dolphins its likely that Saban stays with there and doesn't go coach Bama. Then you'd have Brees Saban going up against Brady Bellicheck to possibly hurt that dynasty. So for me Drew Brees is the player who changed college football and nfl the most.

The Gideon dropped gimme interception was the bigger play in the sense that it would have ended the game (too) and it was so simple.
Crabtree was merely being himself when he completed that catch for a touchdown.
And I really do not think history would have changed much.
Florida was better-coached than Texas, they likely would have won the championship.
And Colt McCoy was not the dynamo that Vince Young was.
