His ability to extend plays and make those difficult throws with accuracy makes him special. Did it in college and doing it in the pros.

@Chan Kamcellor Tell your team to get a scout team like the chiefs did
@Chan Kamcellor fun fact: they didn’t win a Super Bowl during that time.
@Chan Kamcellor yea go hate somewhere else. The chiefs were never this good before Patrick mahomes came. They built a good team and now they are succeeding so why are you hating?
The crazy thing about him is that he could be rolling out to his left or right and be fading away and throw 30-50 yards or even more of his back foot and still be accurate. MIND BLOWING
It's like Farve and Rogers had a baby lol
Deadly accurate i mean protecting his receiver
Fun fact: Patrick mahomes and tyreek hill got there first college touchdown in the same game but on different teams. Now they’re on the same team winning super bowls
Big 12 !
@Chase Ryan ya... A superbowl already in his 2nd year.... And would be 2 for 2 in superbowls if it wasnt for Dee Ford. Your point?
@@kobesn1fan24 it was third year but you’re right on everything else.

All I ever saw this kid do at Tech was make incredible throws all over the field from every body position while running for his life. Every game Tech ever won while he was there was because of him. His team was terrible, but he carried them every offensive snap. I never had any doubt he would be a success in the NFL.
Unbelievable! He’s been elite for so long already. He’s 25...
88 pass attempts in a game is insane.
Yup, you pair him with Joe Mixon and they would’ve smoked OU! I think it’s perfect that he didn’t get drafted top 5-10 to a team with no weapons or a team that was bad and didn’t have an offensive guru. He wouldn’t be the same type of player he is now.
I think that was 2 games in one season
He would've still been good
The no-loo at @9:05
Air raid dude, that's the name of the video
Wow. This offense at Texas tech was the same one that Johnny football used in college, except he took it to the nfl and perfected it. Wow
Exactly
He deserves all he’s getting in life. Won a ring on a rookie contract and got half a bill in return. He’s also an all around good guy. You love to see it.

I wish I'd have seen his greatness in college. I was so caught up in the Deshaun Watson hype train, I missed how good Mahomes was. But just watching the tape, you could've seen how good he became. Everyone always tries to come up with pro comparisons for guys in college. I love watching guys exceed those expectations. He's not just gifted physically. He has the mentality to match it. That's what separates the good players from the greats.
I wish that the Chiefs would pick up Jakeem Grant (assuming his Achilles injury heals). Both played together in college and they would be a great matchup at this level as well.
Legendary and underrated are the only words that come to mind when I watch this tape, he should’ve been picked first overall
On god

You should apply to be host of jeopardy
Watching his games against Texas and TCU, I thought he was good in college, and I thought he would be good in the NFL, but he's been utterly incredible. No other way to put it.
"But he has Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce" He also threw 41 TDs and 5000 yards and had 12 rush TDs with no name WRs in college too..
All of his WRs from Texas Tech are in the NFL
@@JoseGarcia-rv5zd 😂😂😂
i only recognized the name Jakeem Grant
@@JoseGarcia-rv5zd on what roster? As the 5th Wr on the depth chart
@@JoseGarcia-rv5zd not true at all. The notable ones were Jakeem Grant (who is a stud--Tyreek 2.0) Keke Coutee, Cameron Batson, and maybe you count Derrick Willes since he saw some regular season action before injuries. Rest of them basically floundered.
This guy could be the best thing we ever see and the best there ever was to see ..
I believe his greatest asset is he is totally unphased in the pocket. His receiver were tough but never got any separation, and man was he blessed with some great o-lines especially in ‘16.
He will be the GOAT at some point. I have no doubt about that
I was able to watch him play when Texas Tech came to Morgantown, West Virginia and he put on a show.
The stuff he was doing at Texas Tech was so unbelievable the scouts thought no way he could do it in the NFL. They were so wrong and The Chiefs got it so right. This is where you can use generational talent
watching him play in my home town was always so exciting. that stadium was hyped every pass he threw
When he was in college, I didn’t know much about him but I said he was gonna be a decent dual threat QB in the league but little did Ik this kid can sling that ball downfield with ridiculous accuracy. Just amazing and mesmerizing on how awesome and leg this kid is. Im excited to see how far he can go
I have been watching football my life.....I have zero problems admitting I missed on MAHOMES
I feel the same on Josh Allen, although Mahomes was far more accurate coming out. What about Mahomes did you think would hold him back!? Interested to know!
I wanted my Brownies to draft Josh Allen instead of Baker......
@@robesterd8132if u were asking why he wasnt drafted higher I think it was because he was so wacky and off script and “bad mechanics “ they thought it wouldn’t work in the NFL

I feel like Patrick Mahomes really should've been the #1 pick in the draft as talented as he was and I'm happy things worked out with the chiefs hes definitely on his way to being one of the greats GO CHIEFS he's always had the talent fr 😊🐐😁👏
after watching this highlight reel im kinda surprised mahomes fell to the 10th pick of the 2017 draft
This guy might be a star someday
I was about to say, damn how did I miss these college highlights, I don't live near Texas im in SEC land, this man is incredible. MVP
Man, Texas Tech has always had some of the nicest uniform combinations in recent history.
Best unis
Its crazy people actually had second round evaluations of Mahomes after seeing these throws
Mel Kiper's final big board: mahomes was #26.
The bears watched this footage and they were like “ no let’s select the backup quarterback with accuracy troubles and turns the ball over a lot”
This misses context. Mitch was actually pretty good in college. And mahomes was honestly a project and a wild card considering the history of air raid qbs. Hindsight is 20/20
@@maskedthecreator1508 I could maybe see why they passed on him at the time, but there was absolutely no reason to pass on Watson.
the Bears would've ruined Mahomes like every other QB they get. He dodged a bullet
On gawd
It’s crazy how so many athletes like Mahomes get told that they won’t be good pros despite doing what they do in college. He’s broke so many teams hearts especially my Titans but as long as he stays healthy he’ll be an all time great
It did him alot of good to be a back up to Alex Smith his rookie year not having to carry the team his whole rookie season like burrow is with the Bengals or Herbert with the chargers.
Anyone else here from the Tex Tech days when TH-cam only had LBK highlights from 2014-2018 then the MVP happened then the SB happened? Thanks for the upload you may have compiled the best reel from my undergrad days watching this guy ball out 😎 GUNS UP!
I'M gonna LOVE this new series!!!
Who...TF...was the...scout that...missed THIS GUY!?!?
Probably fired after mahomes 2018 season
To be fair qbs who come out of a air raid system usually are bust. But Mahomes is just built different. 🥶🥶
Justin Fields.👀💯
@@JaredMaxwell904 Justin is Nice, But patty is ready to win right here right now.
I came here from all the Caleb Williams is the next Mahomes hype train. Williams is not even in the same stratosphere as this dude. He throws behind open receivers on deep balls, and holds the ball too long. Williams will he a bust.
He does everything you tell a QB not to do lol and he’s elite at exactly that. Special
These throws were INSANE too. Not just run of the mill throws. Especially the throws across the body.
So gald Mahomes is on my team! he was the key to now a potential dynasty. I’m forever grateful
patrick mahomes is just something else man. btw only a completely separate note, those all black tech uniforms are fire
Patrick Mahomes was like The Diamond Cutter You Never Saw It Coming
Texas Tech had horrendous defenses while Mahomes was there.
I can see why there were so many questions about him coming out of college. The arm talent was definitely there but the question was whether his reckless style of play would translate to the NFL. Reminded me a lot of Johnny Manziel (and I do not mean this in a good way).
Unlike Manziel, Patrick Mahomes found a way to control that reckless nature. He still makes wild throws, but he's such a precise and intelligent passer that he only throws the crazy pass when he knows he can hit it. It's like watching a younger Aaron Rodgers out there. No doubt that he's the best QB in the currently, and the Chiefs have to be feeling extremely fortunate that this man fell right in their hands.
Manziel never had a great arm or talent like Mahomes. Also he was surrounded by alot better talent
@@ucheokoroafor8273 And Mahomes has a functional brain, unlike Manziel
He didn't fall in their hands, they traded up to get him
Ya what Manziel was a scrambler while Mahomes is a deep ball guy
He didn't "fall into their hands". The front office did their homework, identified his potential, and in a stroke of genius TRADED UP 17 SPOTS IN THE FIRST ROUND (unheard of move to move that much, btw) and selected him. Quit acting like it was fucking luck.
the most electrifying man in sports entertainment.... if you smell what mahomes is cooking
His O line broke down a lot. There's always one or two pass rushers chasing him
Can't remember if this channel has ever done college highlights, before. I like the idea.
It's nice to know that "run up to the line of scrimmage, then throw" is something Mahomeboy has been doing since college. I think he's already the best qb Kansas City has ever had, but he'll be an all-time great if he stays healthy and out of trouble.

Man I remember him being drafted by KC and thinking "this Reid's new QB I can't wait to see how he'll turn out" credit for them trading up and getting him, when I remember he would of projected to fall towards then end of the 1st
He didn’t play until the final week, when the Chiefs were resting starters. Instead he learned behind Alex Smith.
Dang that mahomes guy looks pretty good. I don’t know how he went 10th but this kid has a future.
It’s still astonishing Mahomes only had 1 winning season, 7 wins at best, all because Kliff Kingsbury didn’t believe in playing defense.
Don’t short yourself, kids going to be a bust in the NFL.
Throws for distance, throws for accuracy, great leader, plus that DOG is in him and Super athletic=Once in a Lifetime TALENT.
I’ve watched every regular/preseason game of mahomes being a lifetime chiefs fan, I watched a couple highlights during his draft and thought gunslinger but the packages I watched from ESPN and the NFL didn’t do as great of a job as this. This shows the amazing ability of mahomes this tape looks exactly like his pro highlights which is crazy. The biggest thing that’s hers learned is the turnovers and to check it down when he can.
So glad he is a Chief. Years of domination ahead
I honestly think he’s gotten better since he’s been in the NFL
Bruh of course he did
This has to be one of the dumbest comments....😂
Thanks Booger lol
What! I thought he got worse. Thanks for filling my mindless brain with knowledge, Amen.
FAt BiG mAn I think what he is saying is that he even “looks better in the NFL”. Usually that isn’t the case, as the competition is much stiffer then college. Most elite QBs look much more dominant in college
So... like everyone in Texas knew what was going to happen when Mahomes hit the NFL. He was just born to do this.
Mahomes's college life in a nutshell:
Patrick Mahomes's offense scores 10,000 points a game, the defense gives up 10,001 points a game.
Just like the Chiefs and he still winning championships 😂
Would have been the #1 pick if he had a good defense to win with
yeah our defense was trash😂
I love Texas tech and my first ever tech game in Lubbock watching it live with Patrick mahomes is the quarterback, and look at him now
9:03 is pure insanity. 3rd and 20 NO LOOK got THREE defenders. And he's doing it in the league in the biggest stage
I remember watching him play early morning Saturday , I was thinking, this guy could never do that in the NFL. But I kept eye on him and he was able to convert his play into the nfl😂 and he is the qb in the NFL right now.
My boy was playing real life madden on rookie mode 😭🔥🎮

Hey how’s 0-7 feel
These throws he’s making are unbelievable. Wtf. How was he not rated higher. How didn’t they see the potential?
Bears saw this and said ‘No Thanks’
As a Bears fan, I yell “I FUCKING KNOW, SHUT UP” at my tv every time they talk about the fact we passed him up...he’s extremely special, and I wish him the best in his career
people who talk about that are dumb, there was never a chance mahomes was going that early and the bears would have been ridiculed for months if they took him #2
He studies his receivers routes and knows when and where they are gonna break free backs up far as hell and buys his self time and runs sideways if necessary for more time and then launches it.
Talk about a match made in football heaven. First he's paired up with Kliff Kingsbury, and now he's paired Andy Reid. But you gotta say his Arm talent is just unreal.
Mahomes to Grant is a classic!
Always been a Brady fan. Retire Brady,Mahomes is the new Top Qb and will break All the records! Guy is a Beast! Bama fan that loves watching this dude!
Wow those trows were already been practiced in his college days. He's been doing it all along ❤️
The bears spent a bunch of time with mahomes and Trubisky before the draft. They took 13 starts in college over this...
Glad he on my chiefs
The more we go back and look at tape, the more Brett Veach and John Dorsey's claim that "this was the best QB they've ever seen and the Chiefs needed to go get him" seems less hyperbolic.
NFL Scouts and GMs saw this and said "give me Mitchell Trubisky and Deshaun Watson" 🤣🤣🤣🤣

1. play baseball
2. have a HOF baseball player dad
3. be named patrick mahomes

His dad was super mediocre.
His dad was a journeyman reliever/spot starter lol. Yikes, talk about whiffing on a post.
That throw righr after the 2:50 mark was insane. I can just imagine Andy Reid watching these higights, licking his chops, like "i can work with this."

So he didnt just magically turn into an elite thrower because he was playing with hill and kelce with reid as a coach? You mean to tell me he was already ridiculous?
Me personally I really enjoy watching this man in college instead the nfl
BEST QB IN THE LEAGUE.
A pure shooter ... he's amazing kc is very lucky
He is that good that NFL throwback did a college highlight vid but the channel is for the NFL
I’m a die hard Packers N Aaron Rodgers fan. This guy is the goat!
The arm talent was there. No doubt. I didn’t think he had the footwork and pocket presence to excel in the NFL.
He was so erratic and wild in the pocket in college. Now I realize how much more important being a “thrower” than a “passer” is.
A “thrower” can make all the awkward throws at all the awkward body positions, like a baseball player.
Helps then that he could have been drafted or was drafted to play pro baseball like his dad.
Hard to have pocket presence when literally soon as you drop back a rusher coming at you also it’s hard to be patient when you know your D can’t stop ANYBODY lol dude had it all then people looked at his school & offense he ran & doubted him. They never actually broke down his situation. Just glad Veach actually did his homework. 41 TDS 5000 yards broke the NCAA record for yards in a season. Had a game where he had to throw the ball 88 fricking times man. No average person would even think about doing that let alone have the arm to do so & still only threw 10 ints considering how he had to comeback most games & throw the ball down the field
I see a 50 td 5000 yard season in his future plus a superbowl mvp
Exactly right
I have a feeling this kid might be one of the greatest to ever play QB.
If he'd have gone to an elite program like Bama/LSU, he probably would've been drafted even higher, possibly 1st overall, but honestly, he ended up where he needed to be. He was in the PERFECT SYSTEM with the RIGHT COACH- Andy Reid- Future HOF.
Growing up in Nebraska as a Chiefs fan and Husker fan, Texas Tech always kinda scared me. Back when Nebraska was dominant, I vividly remember one autumn 2001 night when Kliff Kingsbury and Texas Tech put a scare in us by dropping 31 points in Lincoln but ultimately our Huskers won 41-31.
Having casually watched some Mahomes in college, I figured he was probably a product of the Air Raid system stemming from the Mike Leach days. When Reid and KC drafted him, I had zero idea he'd be this good. I merely thought, "Huh. Well, I guess Reid sees something he can work with. But we'll see I suppose."
This guy Is the Best
I was telling everyone years ago that Patrick Mahomes was going to be the next great NFL QB. Most of the time the response I would get is “who is that?” Well that guy from Tech who wasn’t supposed to succeed is now the face of the NFL. Also how about Jakeem Grant and Keke Coutee with those insane grabs now doing it in the NFL.
