lol the alfa guy sounded like a sales rep at the end of his shift having to attend a tyre kicker.
Yeah, he really has a huge personality!
...and with his charm still wouldn't be able to sell that car for $12.50 plus tax.
Actually a bit like a sales guy in a showroom who thinks he “knows” you won’t buy anything or can’t afford it. So he just waits for you to leave, being as disinterested as possible. Or you could just say it’s really rude and unprofessional behaviour.
"Larry" was immensely helpful. Love when Jay has obviously had enough of "Larry's" battle with narcolepsy and says "Well, I think it's about time to take it out for a ride!"
I don't think he even said that here like normal. Just that he would hop in. I assume that because Larry didn't come over to talk about the interior, Jay thought 'OK, I'll just drive off now', and did.
😆 so true! Larry seemed about as enthusiastic for his own company’s product as a doorstop!
It did seem like Jay shut it down a bit earlier than he would have with an enthusiastic guest. What a contrast with the guy who represented the giant tractor: that guy was fantastic. Everyone wanted to have a beer with him.
Guy was a total salesman. Took Jay for a total tyre kicker.
What a car! So amazed at the style in this car. Just so amazed that they'd have such a "restrained" rep for this car line.
Larry’s indifference is endemic of Alfa’s flat performance in the US. I owned Alfas in my youth and it’s a pure passion purchase. Needs a passionate rep.
this sounds accurate. rented a 4C on turo for a week in CA and it was an amazing experience!! this guy does it no justice at all.. shame

In case you were wondering why Alfa has struggled to gain traction in the US, allow me to introduce LARRY DOMINIQUE.
You read my mind.
Tragic. Wasn't there anyone in the company with some charisma. Jay gets millions of views this could have been a big boost for Alpha.
I was thinking price tag and ease of ownership. I never understood why people buy cars that are in the shop more days than they are driven.

Alfa's strategy is to make sure nothing upstaged the car. And it worked. Too well.
I think Jay even shut down the talking segment a bit early, as he tried his best to get some enthusiasm. I'd be very surprised if we see this guy again.

While the 4C itself is being discontinued, this could have been a golden opportunity for someone from Alfa to have a passionate discussion with Jay and his millions of viewers about what made the 4C special, and to have tied in the rest of the Alfa 'product' line and heritage, since Alfa is an obscure, off the radar brand in the USA. But I could be mistaken.

I’ve had the pleasure of driving this car and was blown away. The handling, speed of the shifts, and the chuffs and whistles of induction are just phenomenal. It’s beautiful. I want to see more performance oriented models like this that are attainable.

Red…the carbon fiber is bonded in resin, the resin part is polished and buffed to a high shine. So the part is “carbon fiber “, no clear coat applied.

A very understated and low key kind of a guy. No doubt.
I’m actually enjoying the chill vibe of him. I rather see a guy just give the information for what it is instead of trying to make a over production of it. If you want to see someone over do it look for the Harley Livewire episode and the mouth breather from Harley Davidson. Just my opinion. Make the vehicle the focus, nothing more

Let me adjust your statement.
There is only actually 2 car lines, as you will never find a 4C.
You can get the Giulia sedan or the Stelvio SUV, which look exactly like any other sedan or SUV on the road. Prices starting in the 40s. Or, if you want a decent engine and 4 wheel drive, you can get the exact same cars with those items for twice as much. What a line up! Never been so unexcited in my life. And you just KNOW they are a maintenance nightmare waiting to happen.
At this rate, I give Alfa about 5 more years in this country before they pull out again.
@@ToyKingWonder To be fair, the 4C was discontinued, and the Giulia and Stelvio are practically the same vehicle. May as well say they make 1 car.
Don't agree with you about the looks.
The only QV with AWD is the Stelvio, not the Giulia QV. You are stuck with the 2.0 if you want AWD in a Giulia. No Alfa Romeo offers 4-wheel drive.
For the money, the Giulia and Stelvio are perfectly competitive against the German options. Having owned both, I prefer the Alfa. Absolutely 0 issues, which I can't say for my BMWs or Jaguar.
The point is, Alfa is horrendously mismanaged. The Giulia is, in essence, a Ferrari design, which has been adapted to an SUV platform and watered down with a 2.0 turbo.
@@dommy114 I had a 156 1.9 jtd for some time as a company car, was a dream to drive and no problems at all, best about it where the clocks in tunnels, one time driving with my mother next to me she liked the drive but couldn't see we where driving a bit over the max speed :-) 140 kph where 120 was allowed .. :-) I did drive it much faster in Germany, still like a brick on the road, never did something strange .. absolutely loved the car. Alf had big issues in the past but are way better nowadays. A lot of cars now are based on the same platform, just what's build on top is different, the complete volkswagen/audi/skoda/seat lines work like that

I've been listening and watching Jay Leno for almost 50 years and I always thought he was a good comedian but had no idea he was such a philanthropist and charitable person. Listening to JLG for the past 10 years has changed that! We need more folks like Jay in this world. I love his "car guy" attitude but what really impresses me is that he is a down to earth unpretentious man who could be full of himself but has chosen a more meaningful role in his life after "Tonight". It's no wonder Johnny gave him his dad's car. I am the same age as Jay and we grew up about 30 miles apart from each other (I don't know nor have ever met him - but wish I had). I do know a lot of people my age that are full of themselves. Can't figure out why they are so impressed with themselves. Keep it up Jay!

Hard for Larry, perhaps lol. How difficult was it to get excited about one of the most beautiful and best-handling cars, especially since it's an Alfa?? The guy's reluctance to talk and him standing so far away like the car has the bubonic plague and his whole demeanor and body language was so disappointing and unintentionally funny.
Probably cuz for real there isn't something special about it. The car seems boring and borrowing every thing from different manufacturers.

I used to see the 8C every week. One of the professors (a famous interior designer) had an 8C in white, believe it was the only one in that colour. Spectacular car! The 4C is beautiful as well.

This car is really underappreciated. Its been around for years and never got the credit it deserves. There won't be any more lightweight midengine enthusiast cars.
Alpine A110. I think it's about 1100kg, all metal, no carbon. Don't bother with the S.
I think it's great but definitely cost prohibitive and it's competing with things like then new supra and Corvette which not only make more power from the factory but can easily handle a bit of tuning before blowing up. Great "drivers car" but ultimately not really competitive.
You can buy an old Toyota MR2, swap a Honda K series engine into it, and have something that will run circles areound the 4C for 1/4 the cost. Will probably be way more reliable too.

Thanks mr Leno, i got much love for Alfa romeo, when i was a child (early 80) i have seen them all from late. 70,,s. My father worked for alfa romeo. He bring every month a new one to the house. The greatest alfa i have ever had seen and sit in was the 164procar, and the most beautiful one was 33stradale.thanks for your videos. Thanks out Amsterdam

Alfa fanático here Mr Leno... since 1964 when my brother gave me a ride in the rain.. no top.. moving his stuff from college dorm to Washington DC... I learned a few new words... and fell in love with the cars... he became a doctor of science... I became an Alfa Romeo technician... ✌️

When Jay said he was going to hop in, I thought of "Young Frankenstein" where Gene Wilder tells the guy to hop off the gurney. It takes the guy about 30 seconds to get off and Gene Wilder says, "Nice hopping."

I sit here with tears in my eyes looking at this. I love my Zoe 916 Spider but this is a fantastic car that I could fall in love with as well. I wish we had proper Alfa Romeo distribution in the UK.
I can wouch from my personal experience that Larry is great representation of typical Alfa Romeo salesman where customer does all the job convincing himself what a great car he is about to buy and salesman tries to change his mind.

Always loved Alfa's rims. Man that car is 240hp and pulls from 0 - 100 in 4.7 seconds insane..
Actually faster than that....my 2015 LE coupe does it in 4.1 seconds with 10 hz gps test equipment. Also low 13 second quarter mile....and gets 28 mpg all day and over 34 if you keep your foot out of it....but that is hard to do wit this car ;-)

@One Issue Voter considering the extensive use of carbon fiber the car is quite heavy. The lotus elise manages to be 400lbs lighter and be made out of heavier materials. Yes it is a lotus and is very lacking in features. But it still makes me think the 4C has hundreds of lbs of bullcrap added.

Thank you and holy cow what an absolutely gorgeous car! I mean, stunning color, amazing design and just when you thought every wheel design known to mankind has been done, Alfa presents something so beautiful, unique and compelling. Gorgeous, gorgeous car, even though it's been around since 2013 (in coupe version and 2015 in Spider version) it still looks as fresh, unique and as incredible today as it did years ago.

Twenty years from now it will be an oddity and a total luxury to drive around in a non assisted non electric car. Not mad about it just a crazy time of change we live in.

I doubt it. The cost is just too much for the average car purchaser. Not nearly enough for used market. Few people have the ability to charge overnight and I don't see the infrastructure for them.

We had 2 4C's at our track. Part of the House Track fleet. We installed front camber blocks and stage 2'd the ECU. Other than that, the 4C's remained stock. The Stage 2 tune on the ECU really woke the chassis up. The manual steering would tire you out after a strong 20 min session. And if you over drove the car into a corner and lost the rear a bit, and caused it to snap back on you, the steering wheel would whip spin out of your hands.. hurt like hell! One of the cheapest track vehicles in the fleet on consumables. Brakes are FIAT Chrysler, and last an unbelievable amount of track time. The only issue we had with both was from the Blow Off Valve, the rubber bladder in it would rip and leak. Easy cheap fix. Never skipped a beat.. but one of the most painful in terms of how it would leave your body bruised up after 80-100 laps. Unforgiving.
God the sound is so good for a 4 cylinder! Love the fact there's no buttons on the steering wheel. The styling is fantastic as well. To bad the representative was kinda eh about the car you really brought it together jay!
I saw a picture of an Alfa Romeo when I was a kid, it was the first car that really grabbed my attention. Glad to see they still make 'em pretty. Thanks Jay for another great ride!!! 😁

@@bopat85 Did they interview Larry before they gave him the job, he's supposed to be marketing Alfa products in North America and he has all the charisma and enthusiasm of a wet flannel.
I just found it curious that Jay had to practically pry information from the guy who should be the standard bearer for the brand in N.A.. Could have perhaps strapped Larry to a chair and shined an arc light on his head, forcing him to reluctantly share more information about the car and its development.
For the love of god someone bring back the true manual transmission in a sport car . Clutch and a Stick, light weight, turbo and a true manual would have me sold. Even Jay asked if it has a manual. He would be over the moon excited if he seen a “old school stick”

Its technically true, the body panels are a composite like fiber glass. Not CF and not metal.
In college, I had a beater ‘59 Alfa Romeo Guilietta, when it was about 10 years old. Wonderful, Italian arms out driving position, 1300 cc, dual overhead cams, and setting up the suspension for sharp turns. But my favorite memory was the sound of the exhaust - nothing like it.

The commenters on this channel, are a tough crowd, quickly judging and crushing presenters on the show. He wasn't that terrible, though usually a marketing or sales person talks more. Jay was certainly doing more explaining.
People should cut the guy some lack, imagine how nerve racking it must be on film for such a large audience
He WAS that terrible! He had no passion or enthusiasm for Alfas. My first car was an Alfa Romeo back in the 1960’s . They get into your blood. That guy is obviously the living dead with no blood left.
@@killerhertzmercedes I agree with cutting the guy some slack. But also, I don't think he was nervous, and if he was, he shouldn't work in this job. I do sales presentations and don't get nervous, but prefer to let the product speak for itself.

When a guest from a car company is overly animated, I sometimes find it annoying that he's trying to hard to sell, instead of just showing off the car. It's been an ongoing topic on this channel for a long time. I wonder if he didn't want to ride with Jay, or Jay preferred to drive without him.

This guy acts like someone told to go out to California and let a guy out there drive the Alfa 4C for some free press coverage because “we don’t have anyone else” available to show the car. He’s the freakin’ President of the company, not some Summer intern!
