I remember studying Chmosky during my philosophy degree and whilst he speaks a lot of sense he has been far too harsh on NATO countries for their defense of Ukraine and their resonpsiblity for the war. Nevertheless, I generally agree with him on most matters regarding the state of politics and the self destruction of capaitialist democracies (something close to what Plato has suggested, though perhaps for different reasons, Pato argues that what follows capitalism is oligarchy).
Alas, my current field is physics and what I see of climate research is that much of the damage, and rate of change, is underestimated by models given that the random variables often don't include mixed correlations). Lifestyle changes and acknowledgement of responsiblity on the individual level for our lifestyles must change immediately to reduce the forthcoming instability of the climate, we don't have decades anymore. A number of tipping points have already been reached.
Israel is situated in a unique geography that influences, and has consequences, geopolitically for much of the world, yet its problems are really no different from that of other nations, such as in Europe where I currently reside. The rise of the far right ideology is earily similar to that which we know historically, it is the same everywhere. There is an identity crisis on the personal level, frustrations with various origins which are often fueled by the greed that capitalism promotes, that is not met. To satisify the unsatisified wants individuals look for external identities which leaves them prone to nationalism/popularism.
Thus, a key component of the long term solution is to not see our politics in isolation on national levels. Many solutions are destined to failure when we ignore the requirement of international cooperation, such as dealing with the legislaiton of multinationals. Chomsky highlights the flight of the wealthy from Norway, as their tax laws are only decided on a national level. Issues relating to the climate are also obvious examples.
Therefore, political movements with an open mindedness for radiacal changes to our economy, and refrain from sense of national superiority, should unity globally and make this a hallmark of our movements. Without this too little is done on the national level which is always brief and too little.

He knows history, he's not afraid to talk about it, he never had. "The last paradox is that the tale of Palestine from the beginning until today is a simple story of colonialism and dispossession, yet the world treats it as a multifaceted and complex story-hard to understand and even harder to solve. Indeed, the story of Palestine has been told before: European settlers coming to a foreign land, settling there, and either committing genocide against or expelling the indigenous people. Can somebody help fill my logic gap?
In 1948, after the holocaust concluded and the immense surge of Jews into Palestine happened, the call for a Jewish state was incredible, though there was great opposition as well.
When Britain declared the mandate would end, who was supposed to dictate what government controlled the land?
If the UN suggested a division of two states and one side declared their state and the other didn’t, how can we declare Israel as occupying any portion of Palestine when the title Palestinians never existed at the time and the Arabs of Palestine didn’t officially declare a nation of any kind.
Especially when the occupied land was taken as a buffer from other nations that originally ignored international law and then renounced their control of the land.
I get that it’s considered illegal bc the land is supposed to be reserved for the Arabs of Palestine but those people never did or will accept the land in which they are allotted so long as it’s not the whole of Palestine.
Are we arguing that Israel simply doesn’t have any claim to the land? If that’s so then that defies international law itself and creates a contradiction to Israeli resistance of Arab aggression does it not?

    • @tilik13
      @tilik13 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Stee4L Very easy, read any book that mentions palestinians published before 1960s. One famous example is the 18th-century Prussian philosopher Immanuel Kant, who referred to European Jews as "Palestinians living among us."
Todays notion of 'the palestinian people' is the result of hard work of a Soviet think-tank, which made Yasser Arafat into the leader of the 'palestinian people'.
Jews are the indigenous people of that region, always lived there and were referred to as the Palestinians for centuries. Arabs colonized Palestine (the name ancient Romas called Israel) in the 8th century during the expansion of Islam. For centuries, under their rule Jews were treated slightly better than slaves (the yellow clothes for the Jews was not Hitler's invention - jews had to wear that under the arabs, had to pay a special tax, could not take a muslim to court, cross the road if an arab was walking towards them, etc.). This is why the British were planning to give the entire region of historical Palestine to the Jews (balfour declaration), but later, under pressure from the arabs gave 75% to the arabs (Jordan is a huge arab run muslim country in Palestine). That was not enough for arabs, so the remaining 1/4 was again divided and one half oof the 1/4 finally was given to Israel (mostly sand dunes and the desert). As we know even that is not enough: arabs want ALL of it with the jews back as their slaves, which they can behead any time they like (as we just saw).
Professor Chomsky is well aware of all of this and it's pretty sad to hear him support medieval barbarism.

    2 Questions:
1.: Who are the three interviewers?
2.: Why don't Israelis speak better English? It's a general question, not referring to these three. Dutch has ~20 Million speakers. Almost nothing is dubbed. As a consequence it's almost impossible to find a Dutch person whose English isn't excellent. The Dutch have very little accent because they are exposed to a lot of English from birth. This video by contrast has translated subtitles. Harari and Avi Loeb for example, two educated Israelis educated in and working in English speaking countries speak with accents so strong its unpleasant.

I find the second question funny because I keep thinking the same about a lot of other countries (Japan the first one that comes to mind. Almost no one can speak English at all). Israelis speaks better English than most countries in the world. Maybe not as well as most European countries - on that I'm not sure.
We also don't dub anything other than kid shows. I don't think any Israelis like dubs. Video games usually don't get any translations either, including subtitles. So if someone can't speak English at all they are probably not playing video games.
I think you're talking about accent though? Harari has great English, so I wouldn't know what else you would be referring to. Dutch accents are way closer to American or British accents so I feel like that's kinda natural? I have great English myself too, but my accent is very heavy. Israelis would usually immediately be able to tell if the person they are listening to is an Israeli speaking in English.

A sheltered prof and book industry, Cloomsky makes up stuff as years go by. Some of us remember the Arabs of the former Mandatory British Mandatory Palestine-land of Israel (with flag and coins to prove it) who objected to be called "Palestinian." Some of us remember the "Mistanenim, in the Gaza envelope in the early days under the Egyptian occupation of Gaza. and the guns necessary every night to protect women from rape. Unlike the stories that Gazawi (or the late Sa'id) have been concocting forever in mosques, some of us know people whose Jewish Israeli sisters were raped, before they were murdered. Some of us around the world have, at long last studied the Kor'an in a Wokeversity and from liberal Muslim and exMuslim friends WE KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. I don't think Cloomsky really knows very much about the religion of "Peace," just because he spent a little time on a kibbutz with delusional dreams. In fact, if naive American and South American Jews didn't settle in the kibbutzim in the past few years, they wouldn't be dead, despite the tragic failure to protect them. Cloomsky might want to go to Ahwaz and enjoy his life there.

curiously he fits the Uriah Heep stereotype of sly and self-serving Jewish behaviour. Like Norman Finkelstein and Ilan Pappe he's become popular by siding with enemies of the Jews, most notoriously with Holocaust denier Robert Faurisson. I wonder if he thinks white Europeans like him are indigenous to America, where he lives? If diaspora Jews in Israel are receivers of stolen goods - land and other resources taken from indigenous people - then exactly the same thing could be said of him and all other non-indigenous people in every country in the Americas plus Australia and New Zealand. The Jews in 1948 agreed to a partition plan that gave them 14,100 sq kms of land to share with Palestinian Arabs and Bedouin. Pretty much 50/50. The habitable land they got was just 4,100 sq kms. How many times could you fit that into the Americas?
