The noodling around with individual notes on a repeating chord to find good target notes for that chord is a really great idea! Definately going to use that one!

I keep coming back to this video, just to listen to the song you made. It's refreshing, and reminds me of Porcupine Tree. I am in love with the sort of disharmony and darkness combined with the slow resolve moving towards a big and imminent sound. The solo is beautiful, sharp notes and emotions blended with a jazzy/bluesy vibe tops it off. Thanks man.

When you played that Db major 6th interval, my mind instantly retrieved to Satrianis Rubinas Blue Sky Of Happiness where there is also a Db major note present near the end after the interlude.
And Im very glad that my ears progress with each day I train them. And I too play by ear when it comes to melody writing or improvising. I dont think mathematically like others. I combine what sounds good to me.
I mean I studied music theory extensively but this tool should merely serve as a guide. After all rules are supposed to be broken.
I too love to come up with "new" & "odd" chords to keep things interesting. We all heard a basic I - vi - IV - V progression.
So why not spice it up? There are endless possibilites in music & so we should explore them.
Love your channel Tyler & wish you all the best in your future musical endeavors. Peace & Subbed

I do this too. I add triads or play single notes of a chord to add drama to a simple 3-4 chord riff. Build up and solo over it with a Melody based on the scale of whatever key I'm in and add notes and speed or technique to develop a solo. Odd time progressive stuff is always cool too I'm a big Dream Theater fan. This is almost like if Eric Johnson played on a DT song

I have a question, when you were finding sweet notes using the looper pedal, I assume the intervals you named were that of the underlying chord? But how do these notes and chords fit into the overal key and scales of this progression? Like how do you determine this and is it useful to know?
Because I usually start with the key in mind, but that's just because I am still very new to this and this way I know which chords and notes sound nice. However, I think I might be limiting myself by starting from a key instead of finding an interesting chord progression or melody first.
