    ‘Be the best that you can be’, ‘ if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right’, ‘waste not, want not’ , ‘idle hands are the devil’s workshop’, and so many more…. It’s hard to stop all those lifelong echoes from rattling around in one’s head
    I’ve been working on it- unlearning all these lessons . Letting go . Accepting good as enough.
    Purposely not doing something I’m compelled to do( or think I am).
    Giving myself permission to do nothing…..Sometimes for a whole day-or sometimes for just 10 minutes.
    Learning to say NO… and not feeling guilty.
    Loving the sound of silence and seeking it everyday.
    Just a few of my slowing down and mindful acts.

    I so love your chat about slow living. My husband and I have done this since retirement in 2020. One thing that I do which people think is a bit weird is have the radio on a classic music channel as often as possible - I imagine the beautiful music is soaking into my house and spaces, getting rid of bad news and busyness. It helps to let go of having a timetable too, my to do lists are very short too. Loving life here, and loving your slow stitching Jeri, thank you for your inspiration ( from Australia).

    I think your method of folding your patch to get a line to follow is such a great idea; my stitches always seem to meander if I just do them "by eye"! which is ok by me, but to have a "straightish" line sometimes is really rewarding,
    I think....thanks for a great video...hugs, Julierose🥰

      Mine do too, meander that is, a simple crease keeps it somewhat in line. Thanks for watching! 💜

    You asked about separating embroidery floss. I'm adding embroidery to my dots so I noticed. I find that if I pull the threads one at a time, it comes easily, every time. When I try to pull 2 at a time, I need to hold all three legs (2 threads being separated, the 2 or 4 threads left, the "bottom" of the whole) or I end up with a tangle, then have to pull one at a time through the tangle. One of the 3 "legs" is held in my mouth while I pull the 2 threads out. In practice it depends on how the threads separate. Did I get 2 or 1? If I get 2, I give it a try. Sometimes it's successful. Sometimes I get the tangle and go to one at a time.

    Crocheting either blankets or tiny thresd appliques is how i unwind. I like to do junk Journal and I haveso much stuff I'm overwhelmed. But I i struggle with pairing down . My house is so stuffed with craft supplies its ridiculous. Can you give me ideas for that. Very relaxing. A bad mattress is not good for for things like your back , neck and mood. So nice of you to help the people with moving the home to a new space. I bet they both appreciate your help. I was 5ft 6 inches...now I'm 5ft 4inches. I used to walk and to start my day. The doctor just put me on a cane, I was falling all the time even being slow. I can be inthe bathroom and I stand and without any warning I go down. Walking at a slow pace and before I know what is happening I'm going flat on my face. I need to go back to work our finances are not enough. But at 66 using a cane no one sees me a good person to hire. Congratulations again on the Great Granddaughter. They're awesome. Happy World Wide Watercolor Month. Huge hugs. Namaste 🐞🐞🐞

      You have to figure out a way to re-invent yourself Lala. All of us older folk that have to work need to do that, because no one wants to hire us. Even though we have more common sense than most young people. Brian and I sell online and I started my YT channel. We do other things too and the combination gets us enough to pay our bills. When I lost my income (my bead shop) I had to figure out something else. I was pretty sick back then too. It's not easy, I totally understand where you are coming from. If you have a lot of craft supplies, sell some off, it will get you some money and clear out your space too. Sending you BIG hugs, 💜💜💜

    I spent at least 20 years making quilts, and the part I enjoyed most was sewing the bindings on by hand, I discovered that the slow stitch projects I enjoy the most are the repeating the motions of sewing these scraps together (like sewing down bindings), and making the cloth books, which usually end up looking like mini quilts, that allow me to basically do the repetitive motions of binding sewing. I have no idea what my kids will think of all my "bookish", slow stitch projects. They don't ask and I don't tell :). I only do them when I am alone meditating, but I have never had so much enjoyment. To think I had to get through a whole quilt to get to the fun part, and now I can just get to the fun at once. Having visits with you while I do it is just all the better.

    Great discussion about perfectionism. Ever since I started doing art journaling, way back in 2011, I've scanned every piece I've ever done. I run the album of those scans as my screen saver. So imagine my surprise when one of my very earliest art journal pages shows up on my screen for five minute, and it's one of the ones that was definitely NOT perfect. Some of them really make me laugh. But then, some of the ones I was squeamish about when I did them make me look at them with such surprise. Hey, I really like that one, I'll think.
    I also wanted to say that making the dots seems to be quieting and meditative for me. I really enjoy that aspect of it. -- Barbara

And yes, causes migraines, IBS, etc. I had to be a multi-tasker my whole life in my jobs and in my head I still have to be that 🐰, but a 🐢is what I aspire to be as I've had too many falls in my house and when I venture out. You are so good for my slow spirit I am trying to embrace wholeheartedly. x's lj p.s. I would have done the exact same thing about the home they were going to demolish!!! Love this idea. I was also thinking of doing this but with different size stitches on each row or even still keeping with running stitches but doing small and large stitches in each row in different patterns ect, eg. Large medium small. Repeat. Large small repeat and so on. Such a simple technique but with so much scope with just one colour and one stitch. So many patches for an inspiration book. Thank you. Hope you are well and having a good day. And enjoyed watching the van removal. Stay safe beautiful lady

    I'm working on embellishing some dots. The idea of one a day just doesn't work for me. I'm working in an assembly line. The squares were cut, then hemmed, circles cut (lots left over for another project), circles added to all. I'm now working on the embellishments. I think the starting and stopping required when doing one from the beginning to the embellishment gets me derailed. My mind goes to a different place for each step. Just taking your great idea as inspiration and doing it my way, just like you said to do.

      I’m right there with you and @JeriBellini . I was diagnosed with hEDS 5 years ago at 64. The most helpful recommendation the doctor gave me, besides dietary and gentle exercise advice, was “learn how to live within your limitations”. Slowing down, not striving to do more and to be more to prove myself, and trying to get over perfectionism were the keys. Hobbies, such as drawing and painting, and now stitching(!), have been a life preserver for me. Thank you, Jeri, for all you do! ❤

  • @katpaints
    @katpaints 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love this! Having samples is so helpful! Photos are nice but they don't give a good idea of the dimensional effect that different threads give. Now that have found my threads again, I am curious on how others store and sort your threads. I have my 6-strand skeins in those plastic cases, wound on bobbins. I have other threads of different sizes, but not many - and a lot of them were my mother's. She passed away in almost 50 years ago and the colors are definitely from the 70s.
    Do you store threads by color or type/size? I also have the thread case she made in the 30s - a roll-up fabric that has slots for tag-board bobbins that includes some that are silk - indicated by her "s" on the bobbin. I think she may have wound them on the bobbins after she opened a skein. I have never used them but was analyzing them the other day. I've been winding some of my crochet thread onto plastic bobbins. It makes it easier to carry with me.
    And, h-EDS???? Seriously? I found out it answers my lifelong problems just a few years ago. Waking up in more pain than when I go to bed is frustrating! Sigh.

      @JeriBellini  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No kidding! You have it too?!

      And yes! That hypermobile type is turning out to be much more common! And it is inherited. I have my uncle's thumbs that would bend out.
