I moved to Montreal 17 years ago from Toronto, bought a duplex for a fraction of the price of a single bungalow, my first car insurance payment was 151 dollars per year, one way. I lived in Toronto for a few years, moved to small town BC before Covid. My quality of life is so much better it not even comparable. Toronto is good for students and people in their late twenties, early thirties. If you want to have a family with children and space, this is impossible in TO. Its a big city for single people and couples living in 600 sq ft concrete boxes. This is what we get with Canada's 'Master planned cities', very sad and mediocre.

My dream was to live in Toronto (from Sudbury), so I moved to the big city in 1995. That lasted 5 years. I moved to Oshawa in 2000 to get away from the craziness, but continued working in TO via the GO train. Now my wife and I are trying to get out of Oshawa because it seems like the rest of Toronto followed us here. But the cost of living is too high everywhere. So now we’re stuck here waiting for something drastic to happen, like maybe a housing crash.

Now it’s anywhere between too slow to dangerous for the poor people who need and rely on it. As far as I can tell, Americans pay too much for healthcare but for the ones who have coverage as opposed to the 9% who do not, the health care you receive in the US is fast and the treatment is top notch.

Toronto is one of the best and vibrant and high tech mega city in the world. Definitely Toronto is not for people who prefer laid back village like style. Toronto attracts best minds from the world. It is competitive and awesome. It is city of immigrants from around the world. I used to live in Montreal and studied there and I had no idea that Canada has a city like Toronto. Once I visited it I moved to Toronto 18 years ago and no regret at all. I will be bold now, Toronto is the only city in Canada and the rest are small and big villages. One famous Canadian comedian said during just for laugh fest inauguration in Toronto " Hi my country Toronto and I can see people from our neighboring country Canada"
Toronto is not Canada and not USA. It is Toronto by itself. This is a city of highly educated, competitive and driven immigrants and Canadians city. If you do not like challenge and state of art tech world, yes leave Toronto. Why should you waste your time and life where you can't compete and enjoy competing.
The reason you gave to leave Toronto shows that you prefer quite and calm and village style life. It is not wrong but that is your preference and but not mine and many people who live and enjoy Toronto. One more thing. You will never know the beauty of Toronto till you leave it.
    Good luck in your endeavours.

I have 10 years of driving history in the US with no accidents or tickets but despite that I pay $240 every month for a 2021 Toyota Tacoma in Calgary (with snow tires and very low crime rate in my region). My guess is that this is due to hail storms, but who knows? Rent is definitely cheaper here though (relatively speaking).
I forgot to add that Calgary was my first choice because it is so close to the mountains and I don't regret moving here one bit. I moved from the American mid west and this place is very similar. My job is 100% remote, so I have had no issues whatsoever, except having to work in Central Time while living in Mountain Time (a very small sacrifice for living so close to the mountains).

WRT bad construction quality, try looking for buildings that are 10-15 years old. They're still relatively modern with all the amenities but quality surpasses current standards.

I live in Windsor and recently had an interview for a job in Toronto. It pays a lot and I've been looking at housing in the city and I'm not sure anymore. Also I hate traffic.

Interesting,I was thinking about suggesting they consider Windsor. Still relatively affordable with a major American city across the river. Best of both worlds.

I do like to visit big cities for to sightseeing, vacations and etc. However, I prefer to live in a suburban community.

Windsor has a two major problems-unemployment and organized crime. It is also an unofficial suburb of Detroit.

It is still a great place to be if you have low mortgage or completely paid off house. No other city in Canada offers the same kind of convenience and quality of life as far as amenities and access to things go. Montreal comes close but they don't have the lake and the weather sucks. Everywhere else is essentially rural living, you may get a half decent mall here and there but nothing to write home about. Over 50% of Canada lives in Southern Ontario. Think about that!!! That's one hell of a country :) Where are you guys moving?

Canada is my homeland. I have always lived here and mainly in Ottawa. This country has changed over the years. There was a time I was proud to be Canadian. Not anymore. What makes this country appealing to foreigners?

You guys didn't give a birth for almost 40 years, do you think Canada will wait until you get older and there is no young generation to replace old people like you? No that's why government is bringing more young people, and still you don't want to have even 1 kid, but you can feed and take care of 5 dogs.

Well , even with the increase in crime it's still safer than many other places in the world. There's still a reputation of good healthcare. As a US American it's a good place to immigrant to as the language is a non-issue outside Québec and it's not so exhausting to live there (compared to the endless polemic politics of the US). It has nice nature and decent worker protection .

When I moved to Toronto in 2014 I was shocked with a poor quality of apartments. I I moved from Poland, not a wealthy country but stull... In Switzerland where I live now apartments are also generic but of better quality especially new builds. I am missing socializing opportunities, missing meeting people from my country and big city vibe, but family-wise, money-wise and career-wise this was a good choice. Last year during job searching I even start applying for jobs in Toronto, but costs of rent were absolutely insane.
Gosh, how I hated smoke detectors ringing when cooking. Jeez. It is sad what you sad about violence, when I was living there in 2014-9 it was much better. Maybe cost of living crisis is making people so violent? I felt anxiety where living in Toronto but it was not bad.

Lived in Toronto for 10 years. Moved to Edmonton (sucked never go there) now living in Montreal and looking to move back to Toronto. Montreal just doesn’t cut it. This video is so negative about Toronto, it’s a HUGE city of course there will be crime, traffic, it’s expensive because it has a high quality of life!
Left TO in 2013 and not 10 years later visiting I fell in love all over again! So many positive things happened!
Im sorry you had a bad experience.
Montreal is awesome but it’s expensive too the taxes are gross and the winter sucks. More over people here can be really rude.
Torontonians are extremely friendly and open.
In Mexico City you also have to account for at least 2 hours of traffic daily, there is crime too and pollution.
Perhaps more to Switzerland? It will be quiet, organized and def not fast paced.

Ottawa has more grit and can feel very rough around the edges, albeit with a few nice, charming pockets of quaint history here and there, not inconvenient, a relic of the '90s with flashes of the 21st century, but those are few and far between.
