If I had a nickel for every time Mads Mikkelsen has played a gay, sociopathic antagonist, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I think Mads Mikkelsen was a better option for this role, he brings so much emotion to Grindelwald and Dumbledore's relationship, which i don't think Johnny Depp could really portray

Agree. Their chemistry carried the whole movie. I love Johnny, he always gives his roles a little of that eccentric mad hatter vibe. He‘s very captivating in a different way. But Mads is the master at portraying bone chilling evil while interweaving it with a very touching vulnerability and emotion. It’s the Hannibal formula. And imo that was exactly the right approach to make both of Grindelwald‘s sides so believable.

jude law has always done a remarkable job portraying a gay man:') its insane how much difference of a character he was in the movie WILDE compared to him as albus, but he nailed both roles regardless.
