Cate Blanchett, super respected serious actress, who evidently dearly loves to do these sorts of movies. The lousy Indiana Jones she did? Loved it. Playing Hela? Loved it. They should put her in a Star Wars project, she'd probably adore getting to be a Sith Lord.
Hi. Skurge, The Executioner, is played by Karl Urban. A New Zealander, Karl has had some juicy roles. One other is in Star Trek 2009 where he plays Doctor McCoy. Also, someone else noted he played Kirill the assassin in The Bourne Supremacy. He has starred in many high-profile movies, including as Éomer in the second and third installments of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. And yes, he was also Billy Butcher in Amazon Prime's, The Boys (I have not seen it). He is a talented actor who brings his characters to life. 👍🤓
Taika Waititi, the director, voices Korg. His appearance resembles that of the rock men from Saturn who invaded Earth in the first appearance of Thor in "Journey Into Mystery"#83.
Thor: Ragnarok is a visual love letter to Jack Kirby’s artwork and designs, particularly his work on The Eternals comics. If you compare panels from those comics with scenes from Thor: Ragnarok, you’ll notice many of the same design elements on Sakaar. These include the items, clothing, armor, the bold use of vibrant colors, and, of course, the architecture. All based on Kirby's comic designs. There’s even a slice of actual Jack Kirby art displayed on a wall in Sakaar, which is an awesome tribute. Kirby, of course, also worked on the Thor comics, which had a similarly colorful and cosmic aesthetic. Thor: Ragnarok captures and highlights that perfectly, contrasting the more modern Thor depictions in later comics which inspired the first two Thor movies.
Too bad they couldn't give a little love to Walt Simonson! He reinvigorated the franchise in the 80's just putting a trophy head of Beta Ray on the tower was all we got. This film was tolerable, the next is a hot mess and is utter trash. But I was glad to see the Kirby love spread in this film.

This movie included some subtle Australian/ New Zealand references, such as the Aboriginal flag colours on one of the ships or the ship names on Sakaar all being models of Australian made cars (the Holden Commodore was the standard NZ police cruiser throughout my childhood.) The decision to make this movie as an outright comedy was inspired, given how grimdark Thor movies had previously been. Even now some comic book fans hate it for the fact Taika dismisses their concerns and openly mocks them for crying in their parents basement.
This and Multiverse of Madness are my favorite MCU movies. This for it's 80's synth and classic Marvel cosmic motif, and Multiverse for Sam Raimi. Style goes a long way. And Skurge's last moment's always hit me hard because it recreates one of my favorite moments from the comics, when he sacrifices himself to save refugees from Hela. "He stood alone at Gjallerbru." still chokes me up.
Nice. This is my alltime favourite MCU movie. It's so reminiscent of old school ( 60's, 70's ) comic books, it's perfect. And beautifully sets up what's to come. Beautiful and funny. Pure comic book magic. Incredibly rewatchable.

So, Director Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth really worked out the comic tone before this came out by uploading videos to TH-cam after Civil War. If you search for “Team Thor” you should find the three videos they filmed where Thor moves to Australia and gets a roommate. Taika had a pretty big undertaking with this movie in that he was tackling two beloved comic arcs here: Ragnarok and Hulk World. Both probably deserved their own films, but for contractual reasons, Disney can’t release a Hulk movie, so Hulk’s reduced to team ups. Taika also had to set up the end of this film so that folks are in the right place for Infinity Wars. I think the humor works with this film. Not so much with their next team up.
One of the funniest movies I've seen, save for some of the best Mel Brooks comedies. The director took it in a very different direction, and trimmed off his father, his friends, his hammer, his hair, his girlfriend. It also borrowed from the 'Planet Hulk' storyline, where a Hulk exiled from Earth becomes a gladiator and rising up to be king. Soundtrack by Mark Mathersbaugh of Devo fame.
I respect other's opinions about this one but it worked for me. The first Thor movie was fine but it was no Iron Man or Captain America. And Dark World was horrible. At the time Hemsworth said that he wasn't having much fun playing the role, especially in his stand-alone movies. Movies are not comic books, and a serious Thor is not very interesting. Hemsworth enjoys taking on the sillier aspects and incongruities of this character, who still works pretty well in the framework of the MCU. And Taika Watiti is a pretty genius filmmaker. Love & Thunder didn't work as well as this, but it (again, IMHO) is infinitely more watchable than Dark World.
When people didn't care about this movie being absolute tonal whiplash compared to previous entries, I finally knew with total certainty that the MCU wasn't worthwhile or artistically valid anymore.
I'm with you, I prefer Thor with the long hair.... Much hotter IMO. Don't get me wrong he's not terrible-looking with short hair, just not nearly as hot. My wife felt the same way. As for the ending, the ship that found their ship, was Thanos' ship. Remember that for when you watch the beginning of "Avengers: Infinity War". P.S. The hair will be back in the future.
This movie makes me mad every time I watch it. Thor has lost everything. He just recently lost his mother, then this one comes along and he loses his hammer, his father, and his whole world. And they turned it into a joke. Then on top of that they ruined the Hulk as well.
Unfortunately Ande, YOu are correct. This movie put me off quite a bit because of Taika Waititi's treatment of the characters. It's signifies the silliness of things that become to dominate the MCU. The Surtur talk really put me off and just made him a weak character. Much like how Poe smarted off to Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. It did grow on me a little after this but now you may feel a shift in the tone of the movies.
As a Thor fan (comic books) I loved the first one! The second was ok this one was horrible! I didn’t think it could get worse but Love and Thunder proved me wrong! The director ruined Thor from the MCU!
anything after anengers endgame (excluding wandavision, loki & hawkeye) is horrible. I used to be such a big MCU fan but after multiverse of madness & thor love and thunder i hated what it turned into and havent been interested in mcu since. still nice to watch reactions to the first 3 phases tho!
@@J_mped Obviously you can like and dislike anything you want but I don't think that's true that it's been horrible. Shang Chi is pretty great as is Spiderman number 3 and, though it's divisive, I really like The Eternals. It's a definite fall off from Endgame but I think there was still a lot to like even though Secret Invasion was utterly, utterly terrible and Thor L+T was painful. Loki season 1 & 2 was my absolute favourite, though.

So in this case they let the director do whatever he wanted. He has no respect for the characters that had already been established. Love and Thunder is an example of what can happen when a studio gives a director unlimited budget, but does not exercise any control.

@ Yeah mb I’m not gonna lie I haven’t kept up in so long I forgot about them, Shang Chi was amazing and I liked eternals too- spiderman 3 was INCREDIBLY fun to watch altho that was also when I knew the direction Disney were going from then onward 🤣. Unpopular opinion I think? But I liked What If s1, Loki season 1 was good I loved the story but I haven’t seen season 2. I can’t bring myself to watch it not in release order so if I was going to watch season 2 I’d have to force myself to watch EVERYTHING else before that, that I haven’t seen 😭🤣

The hulk/thor "fight in the arena" sequence, particularly the chanting @27:20, always reminds of the official video for AC/DC's "Thunderstruck".

The Fenris wolf is another child of Loki in mythology who was destined to kill Odin at Ragnarok.
In Norse mythology and the comics Hel(a) is a daughter of Loki.
In the stage play you recognized Matt Damon as Loki. Luke Hemsworth plays Thor and Sam Neil is Loki disguised as Odin.

I look at this as Thor telling the story, which is why it gets 'odd' at times.

I liked the humour level in this one quite well enough…. Aaaaand then there’s love & thunder…. Which… has its moments, surely, but….
I really liked this one but then someone clearly said "Hey, Taika! Do more of that!!" and he said "More you say! Okay MORE coming up!!"
