This is the most detailed repair video I have seen. This is exactly the problem my Equinox is having. I'm still taking it to the shop because I don't own any tools and I am disabled so even a simple fix like this takes a lot out of me but at least now I will know if the garage is stiffing me or not.
I just had the solenoids fail in my 17 equinox and your video was the first one I found. Your instructions were very helpful and I was able to get them both replaced in under an hour. Thanks!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. My check engine light came back on AFTER I got the oil change. I was very frustrated 😞. So I researched and found out that I MAY have to charge the solenoid. Did not want to pay to have it changed when TH-cam has DIY videos. So I bought the part and saw a couple videos that did not go into detail about changing it. Then I found your video. Even though it is a 10 minute video..it take me about 30 to 45 minutes because I did not want to mess up and cause more damage. After I followed your instructions and finished, I turn on my Chevy 2016 equinox and the light came back on...after waiting for about 10 minutes..turned in on again and the check engine light was OFF. 😳😁😁😁. Your video was very detailed and I want to thank you for helping me save some extra money. 👍🏾👍🏾
This is great video. My story is that I have a 2017 Equinox. It has 70,000 miles on it. Got it from my daughter in law. I know she has the oil changed properly. I have drove it 2,000 miles while owning it. Took it to breakfast one morning. It ran perfectly. When I started it to come home, it started great as always. Put it in reverse and it stalled as soon as I touched the gas peddle. I had to give it gas quickly to keep it from stalling to get it home. P0010 code. Removed the switch and cleaned it as I had seen in many videos. Put it back in and drove it many times in the next two days. Then it was stalling again. Put a new GM one in and went on vacation the next day. Back home now. Drove it 1,000 miles. No problems so far. Fixed a neighbor’s car with good results 3 years ago. Still runs great.
Had the exact same problem with stalling on me wife's recently purchased (used) 2016 Equinox . Unfortunately I don't own a code reader, but my local auto parts dealer did and fortunately plugged the scan tool in for us. Yup, holding codes POO1O and POO11. I did your test and it is in fact the intake solenoid. I used Auto-Zone, and their part number for the 2016 Equinox with Ecotec 4 banger part from Dorman Engine Variable Timing Solenoid VVT 917-215 ($49). They didn't have it in stock so I'm hopefully going to do the repair tomorrow. great video! Thanks! -Bobby O
Thank you so much for this video. Had to do this to my girlfriends 2015 Equinox today. Pro tip: both solenoids on amazon cost less than half of what the parts store wanted.
Omg thank you so much for this my equinox was stalling and I thought it was the battery or alternator I took it to auto zone for there code reader and sure enough it was exactly this and step by step instructions were spot on ..Thanks again
My wife's 2016 had this issue and the shop recommended replacing both solenoids. I'd watched a video on this so I knew what was involved. I took it to a shop because I was having health problems. They charged me $700 for replacing both solenoids! Billed for 1.5 hrs labor. RIP off, but I was stuck.
My 2017 Equinox solenoid failed at 70000 miles. Took it out and cleaned it. Put it back in and it still stalled at slow speeds. The car has the oil changed regularly. It didn’t look dirty. Put a new GM one in and ran perfectly again. I didn’t do a volt or ohm test.
2017 Equinox coded p0011 yesterday, getting an oil change literally right now, but also bought the OEM part off Amazon just in case. Very helpful video should I need to replace the VVT solenoid after this oil change.
I just purchased a 2016 chevy equinox ltz awd May 27th engine light just came on 2 days ago definitely a solenoid it only has 44,000miles on it limited warranty ran out May 31 but dealership has a 6onth warranty taking it up there on August 2nd wish I could do it myself
The owner definitely waited too long, the cylinder head is fed oil through a very small restrictor. These can become clogged and cause loud tapping sound from the lifters due to oil starvation. There is a TSB on this. The oil filter was likely heavily contaminated and was by-passing, allowing unfiltered oil to reach the solenoids. These engines are notorious for fuel dilution from GDI and the high pressure fuel pump. This caused rapid viscosity breakdown and wear. Perform an oil analysis once per year and change the oil every 3k miles. I have numerous oil tests showing the oil shearing back to a 5w-20 oil or less in 2500 miles.
If the solenoid 12V/actuation tests good when cold, cycle it 30 times. Then reinstall, run the engine till hot, remove solenoid and re-test 30 times. Temperature can affect its ability to FULLY and reliably operate. See my other comment for the Service manual TSBs and procedures. Stay gold.
Here’s a twist…. Getting that 010 code after changing both solenoids but still getting the infamous 301 misfire. Worth the fix on this 100k mile 2015 Equinox or trade it in?
@@JaboTheMechanic I'm back with updates bro, just checked the solenoid and works so I'm going to replace the camshaft sensor and see if that's the problem. I'll let you know bro.

Hello, thanks for the video very helpful. Now my 2012 equinox still stalls after changing the oil and both solenoids I’ve also changed the camshaft position sensor. I don’t know what else to do? Any suggestions?
Fresh oil change, changed intake solenoid per code p0011.. Cleared checked engine light. Still doing it and check engine light came back on. Any suggestions?
Different manufacturers have different colored plastic on the connectors. The inside (where the pins are) is keyed differently. On the intake it looks almost like a Chevy symbol and the exhaust side looks like a mushroom.
Will this cause your car to have trouble starting to where you have to hold the gas pedal all the way down? And also when it starts. The engine revs funny up and down and acts like it wants to stall out, and when driving. It doesnt want to accelerate at all and takes forever to get up to speed and still acts like it wants to stall out. Also sometimes acts like it wants to stall out going up hill. Can someone help me. I have p0010 code

Yes for resistant but i would recommend to test it like how i did

How do you know it’s not timing chain
I changed the oil in my wife's equinox and then it started stalling on acceleration from a stop. I'm guessing this is the culprit.
When I save up I will be changing the dam things. Hope this is the issue. Makes it dangerous to drive.
Hope so too
On my equinox 2016 I just removed both and sprayed with carburator cleaner and install again and work again like new don’t buy new ones try that first

Pro tip.... always replace with OEM parts, never go aftermarket for these solenoids.
excellent

Sorry I am not an expert. Are you sending 12 volts to that Solenoid to achieve the click sound to verify that it is working correctly?
Yes that is correct
Why did you replace the intake solenoid (white connection cap) with an exhaust (black connection cap)
Different manufacturers have different colored plastic on the connectors. The inside (where the pins are) is keyed differently. On the intake it looks almost like a Chevy symbol and the exhaust side looks like a mushroom.

I'm a year late, but it can also be the Coil Packs. or the fuel pump.

Jumper wires
So this when your car start shaking and it want to shut off
I have the same issue..3 weeks after an oil change..and I didn’t go over
Ok. Did you check the solenoids
Jabo The Mechanic getting it checked now..
Ok let me know how it goes

Thats good to know
What if the clip is broke for the intake solenoid? Can I replace that?
It will be fine. You put a tab of Silicone lightly so the connector doesn't come out
Can I still have the same problem and no check engine light?
Yes! But you should have a pending code
Mine was stalling out and didnt have a check engine light on until hours of driving afterwards. I'd change it.
How much would you charge for a service like this?
With diagnostic or just remove and replace
Dont bother buying that DORMAN part. Buy the OEM part. They are 45 bucks from GM. Dorman electrical parts are not worth the box they are packaged in.
only thing missing for me is hearing run before .....
👍
