Just right the date on your boxes when you get it

Write the date, how much was spent, and if there is a special name for the item, category or vendor on the outside of box.
It makes one wonder how well inventory is tracked and managed. When boxes are found "by accident" and they months or worse yet, 2 or 3 years old, most times they've lost their full value...even after a year, a dollar is not worth a dollar, anymore. Most times, Clint /Becky, you're losing money. How much money are you losing, each year, just buying stuff and not paying attention to inventory after it reaches your house?
