- [WATCH IN 4K] Hey everyone! I decided to an updated video to help my new subscribers get to know a little bit about me, my background, my journey to dental school, and why I started this whole TH-cam Channel in the first place.
So in this video I basically give you a short version of a whole bunch of previous videos I've made before, mixed into one. The topics (that most likely have older videos) cover how I went about getting into dental school with a low GPA, switching from pre-med to pre-dent, why and where I did my post-bacc program, and more.
If you have more questions please leave a comment!
If you're new to the channel, my name is Eli and I am a 2nd year dental student at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine. I went to University of Maryland, College Park for undergrad, and I did a post-bacc program at George Mason and Georgetown Universities, called G Squared.
On my channel I vlog my dental school journey as well as make videos for pre-dental students who want advice on getting into dental school. I didn't have the easiest journey to dental school, and a unique story, as I was interested in medical school for 2 years after graduating before switching to dental. Follow along my journey as a dental student and after I graduate, I want the channel to be a way for young Black men and women to see someone that looks like them working in the healthcare field. Also, share the channel with anyone you think may find it interesting! I appreciate all the support and really want to get my TH-cam out there.

Currently a postbacc student in a similar situation. Having to take classes that I didnt do in undergrad or having to retake classes made me feel like i'm always behind. Hearing your story of finally making to dental school is motivating. Keep it up eli
thanks Justyn, i'm glad it helped! remember, run your own race! you're not behind because you're not in competition with anybody! you will get there, and when you get there you will appreciate the journey so much more. rooting for you!!
Hey can you tell me more about the post bacc I’m about to graduate with my bachelors in business administration but I haven’t taken the pre requisites for dental school
@@StudentDoctorEli Same advice my favorite advisor gave me! You're not really competing against anyone but yourself!
im a first year maryland Terp, also from Baltimore! your story has really motivated me to stick on the pre-dental track. thank you for the advice!
What up terp! Stick to it!! Say wassup to my IZ brothers on campus 🦍

You just had a new subscriber 😊
welcome! thanks for subscribing
Love the content as always! Just curious how many shadowing hours did you have when applying?
around 100. and thank you!
Thank you.
College park homie here too🤧❤️ struggling in undergrad fr
definitely been there😩. what year are you in?
Thank you 🙏
Hi Eli, thank you for your content. You have been a great source to me in my pre-dental journey! I have a similar background as you and the G2 program checks all my boxes so just finished applying a couple weeks ago. I am very anticipated to receive my admissions decision. How long after you submitted your application did you receive an acceptance letter?
Hi! Thank you. I don't really remember because I applied 5 years ago now. I think it was less than a month but I'm not sure. I can't even find the acceptance letter in my email anymore
Hearing this made me feeling better about some of my fears in continuing to go to dental school. My biggest block at the moment is cost. My loans for undergrad are just so much I’m afraid I can’t continue. Any tips on that?
well would you rather pay your loans back with a dentists salary or an undergrad degree lol. ultimately that's your choice. there are scholarships you can apply for
Shout out G2! 😎
my boy! 😎
Hearing your story definitely gives me inspiration to look into dental school ❤️✨ we appreciate you for sticking it through to help break those generational fears of health care for the community 🫶🏾✨
thank you! and thank you for your comments, bringing this vid to life!
Currently waiting to hear back this cycle! 😭How long was the wait for you in terms of receiving interviews/acceptance?
It can honestly happen at any time at this point. You can get interviewed tomorrow and accepted in a week lol
Can you link the app that you mentioned as far as checking stats? I’m currently in dental hygiene school & planning on pursuing dental school after getting my bachelors

YOU WENT TO UMD???? THATS WHERE I WANT TO GO TO DENTAL SCHOOL!!! (or UMBC) 😳😱
Hey Eli! I had one question, how many years did it take for you to finally become a dentist and how hard was the journey?
i am still in dental school.
dental school is 4 years, after that you can decide to be a general dentist and get to work right away or go into a specialty which means spending more years in school
Can you talk about your undergrad what did you major in and what was your dat
This video I made about my DAT: th-cam.com/video/pXvrcTbU7lg/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
I majored in Biology in undergrad. More info in a lot of my earlier videos, check them out. Here is one: th-cam.com/video/pXvrcTbU7lg/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Is ur cousin still practicing? I need shadowing hours! 😅😅😂
What was your DAT score and what month did you apply to schools?
I submitted my applications in June, a week after the first day to submit. I scored a 21 on the DAT, you can check my DAT video out here: th-cam.com/video/G4LOHQZw2VI/w-d-xo.html
@@StudentDoctorEliCongratulations and thank you for the information!
Thank you, and you're welcome
what should i study in undergrad to go to dental school i want to become an orthodontist
You can major in anything as long as you take the pre-requisite courses. Majoring in a science major like biology just makes it easier because the pre-requisites for dental school are basically all a part of the major
I'm debating on doing a gap year or applying for a master's program. I'm going into my last semester of undergrad and depending on my GPA is going to determine what I will do.
Good luck with your journey brotha
Why did you choose Boston over meharry?
Meharry sent me an interview way after I already committed and put my deposit down at BU
Is Meharry considered better? How do all the dental schools compare?
it's all about your preference and where you fit the best.
